Ronaldo Jacaré’s big takedown in his black belt debut

A hungry Jacaré arrived at black belt with a bang. GRACIEMAG

It’s a day for remembering. Let’s go back in time, to August 2003, when the Desafio Black Belt was held in Sao Paulo. The protagonist: Ronaldo Jacaré.

At the time, Jacaré was the IBJJF’s absolute brown-belt world champion. This tournament was his debut as a black-belt.

In his duel with Delson “Pé-de-Chumbo” Heleno, Jacaré made the grips and set the pace, eventually achieving a good-looking takedown. The result was a 7-0 score in Jacaré’s favor and a big celebration.

Cutting back to the present, Jacaré’s next engagement in the UFC will see him face Derek Brunson on Jan. 27 in Charlotte, NC.
