With three of the greatest competitors to ever grace a mat confirmed for the IBJJF Pro League in August, it’s time to get excited. Two of them — Roger Gracie and André Galvão — once fought in an absolute world championship match, back in 2008. In this semifinal encounter, Galvão nearly swept and endangered Gracie’s back. However, the Blanket managed to get free and stay on top, to get started on his smothering side control game that netted him enough points for the win.
“Quando estou por cima, independente de qual passagem eu quero usar, estou sempre usando o meu corpo e me empurrando em cima do oponente, distribuindo o meu peso, preocupado em jamais transmitir a sensação de leveza ao guardeiro. Minhas passagens não têm nada de complexas ou especiais, a não ser o fato de que estou constantemente calculando e recalculando o meu posicionamento, a fim de não dar espaço para o adversário", resume o tricampeão mundial absoluto (2007/2009/2010).
