The leader of Start Jiu-Jitsu, in the U.S., Roberto Gordo was once a fierce competitor. With his half-guard, feared for its atypical aggressiveness at the time, Gordo amassed admirers and competitive rivals on the mats.
In one particularly memorable match, Gordo took on the equally fearsome Wallid Ismail. The duel, marked by Gordo’s technical superiority and Wallid’s endless tenacity, had the late, great Carlson Gracie as referee.
