Held last weekend, the IBJJF’s American Nationals gathered some of the best U.S.-based fighters in another welcome sign of the gradual resumption of the competition circuit. The NYTEX Sports Centre, in Texas, served as the stage.
In the black belt, Double Five’s João Gabriel Rocha triumphed with double gold. First he beat Guilherme Cordiviola (GFTeam) in the ultra-heavy final. Then he beat Gabriel “Todd” Almeida (Checkmat) to ensure a perfect weekend for himself.
Meanwhile, Brenda Oliveira (Club Pina) claimed the women’s absolute title. Having lost the middleweight final, she bounced back with a win over Mayara Custódio (LEAD Bjj) in the absolute.
Also noteworthy were Bebeto Oliveira at light feather, Josh Cisneros at featherweight, and Ronaldo Junior at middleweight, as well as the duo of Gregor Gracie and Rayron Gracie, who took gold at master 1 medium heavy and purple-belt adult super-heavy, respectively.
