All the pieces are in place for the sixth installment of Copa Luta pela Vida, an event set to go down this weekend at Colégio Gustavo Barroso in the Northeast Brazilian city of Fortaleza. If you’re in the area and looking to get in some competition, better hurry; sign-ups end today, July 5.

The tournament will feature both Jiu-Jitsu and amateur MMA matches. Saturday will be all Jiu-Jitsu, and Sunday will heat up even more, with some amateur MMA bouts.

The gentle-art contest will feature all belt groups, peewee to senior age classes for both males and females. The winners of the absolutes will be rewarded with a gi, clothes and supplements gift bags as well as medals, which will be given to the top three in each category.

Now the aim of holding MMA fights is to showcase new talent. The tournament will feature ten weight classes for the juvenile age group and nine for adult males and females, done in an elimination system, with a 16-fighter limit on each division. The winner of each group will be awarded a kit with clothing, supplements and a trophy.

The best part is that fearless athletes will get a chance to brave different styles. For BRL 30, fighters will get to compete in Jiu-Jitsu or MMA. For 50, they get to try out both. The first 200 to sign up will receive an official event T-shirt.

To sign up, all you have to do is head over to Academia Black Belt, on Rua Vinicius de Morais 1, São Gerardo, or sign up at one of the outposts: Loja 1º Round no Shopping Central; Sankaku Shop Ceará na avenida Barão de Studart (in front of Tim); NA Suplementos on Rua Soriano Albuquerque 65; or at Fight Nutrition, next to Oliveira Paiva’s New Planet gym. Athletes from elsewhere should send an email to joaojitsu@hotmail.com.
