GRACIEMAG.com embraced Ryron and Rener Gracie’s campaign in their bid to launch a new reality show on TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey’s Oprah Network TV channel. The Gracies’ proposal led the voting for several weeks.
Thousands of children in the US return from school sad for being the target of torment from bulies. These children are depressed, lack self-confidence and become miserable. The idea is to gather the kids most subject to bullying and bring them into Gracie academy for physical, mental and emotional strengthening.
There was a misunderstanding, though. The vote-winning program was expected to figure into a time slot of its own but, as it turns out, the shows receiving the most votes will compete against each other on the network’s reality show. Despite the likely publicity that could arise from such a venture, the Gracies are not interested in participating in a reality show, but to produce their own idea. Thus, they decided to pull out of the competition.
Nevertheless, no big loss.
“We are capable of getting the attention of a number of executives from some of the biggest networks in the world. We were stunned by the thousands of positive comments from the voting public. So, basically, our success in the Oprah contest got us the visibility we would need to bring the show to fruition,” says Rener.
