The medium heavyweight division (as with the absolute) of the 2012 Pan-American Jiu-Jitsu Championship lost one of its most likely candidates for a gold medal. André Galvão, a decorated team Atos representative, suffered a leg injury and will have to sit this one out.

“I’ve got a little leg problem, so I’d rather recoup 100% for the World Pro [WPJJ] in Abu Dhabi,” he told GRACIEMAG.com over the phone. “I was doing a good job of training, and I waited till the last minute to decide, but I felt it was better to spare myself and not aggravate the contusion.”

The brackets for the 2012 Pan, which kicks off this Thursday, are already on the air at the IBJJF website. Check out who will be facing who in Irvine, California, by  clicking here.
