Held by Bráulio Estima last weekend, the British BJJ Open drew over 900 competitors, according to the promoters, and set the bar for the up-and-coming Jiu-Jitsu talent in England.

What’s more, the tournament in Birmingham helped some big names from the local Jiu-Jitsu scene to keep up their rhythm for the World Championship coming up in Long Beach this 31st. The big standout in the absolute was GB Oxford’s Maxmiliano Campos, who brought the crowd to its feet when he sunk an armbar on GB Bráulio Estima-rep Neil Simkin in the first minute of the open-weight final.

Middleweight was an especially heated contest, with GB’s Victor Estima squaring off with Clark Gracie of Gracie Fusion in the final.

“Clark came all the way over from the USA for the competition, so it was an honor. He’s a really tough athlete. It was great preparation for the IBJJF Worlds,” Victor told our contributor Daren “Faísca” Bartlett after sinking a championship-winning footlock.
