Jiu-Jitsu black belt Rubens Charles “Cobrinha” is just a white belt who never quit. The teacher at team Alliance learned to love doing repetitions and day-to-day life at the academy, and he made it. Another lesson our GMA in Los Angeles assimilated was how to do a choke. When attacking an opponent of any shape or size, he’s always a proponent of going for the choke, if just because it’s the go-to move for getting out of a jam against bigger, stronger and more athletic opponents.

In the following video he teaches how use an adversary’s lapel and arm to strangle them. “The trick is to let your weight bear down on him and look to your support foot,” Cobrinha explains.
