October is the month of the traditional US Open tournament in California, and the roster is already taking shape. Besides some stars confirmed to be there, the Jiu-Jitsu championship put together by Claudio França has started a bit of a buzz thanks to the trophy that will go the best team.
Now which might the best team in Santa Cruz be?
While sign-ups get underway, confirmation from some well-known names stands out. Rio Open lightweight champion Augusto “Tanquinho” will be in the running for the gold. Runner-up featherweight in Rio, losing to Mário Reis, Theodoro Canal is another signed up, as heavyweight black belt Carlos Melo and lightweight brown belt Nathan Mendelsohn.
Sign-ups are still open and there’s a discount till September. But athletes and teachers shouldn’t sit back and relax, as the event’s official hotel, offering promotional rates for those who mention the US Open, tends to fill up quick.
