World Pro: white, blue and purple belts dispute berths in San Diego

A number of world Jiu-Jitsu’s big name black belts are confirmed for the World Pro tryouts in San Diego coming up March 5 and 6 at Point Loma High School gymnasium. World champion Lucas Leite and two-time Rio Open champion Luis Gustavo are two more stalwart competitors added to the list boasting names like Marcus Bochecha, Ricardo Demente, Guilherme Mendes, Clark Gracie, Rodrigo Caporal, Joel Tudor, Gilbert Durinho and Fabiano “Pega Leve” Scherner, among others.

However, among the thirteen fighter who will go on to compete at the main event, in Abu Dhabi, with all expenses paid, six are from the lower belt ranks. In the blue-and-white belt disputes, two men and two women will win their way. In the purple belt men’s division, another two will go, while female purple belts compete with the brown and black belts.

“The event is sure to bring great matches not just at black belt. Things will go off in the lower belts too! There’s a strong group that entered from Gracie Barra, BJJ Revolution team, Paragon, Atos, Nova União and Stronghold, among other. And we’re still expect more to sign up,” remarks Fernando Paradeda, the man promoting the event and running the Abu Dhabi Pro company.
