This Saturday evening WEC 48 took place in Sacramento, California. The event featured two title bouts as co-main events. Jose Aldo allowed no margin for error and defeated Urijah Faber in defending his featherweight belt, while Ben Henderson submitted Donald Cerrone to keep his lightweight belt. Check out the results and summary of the main bouts:

José Aldo dominates Faber

For the first time in his WEC tenure, José Aldo needed all five rounds to exit the cage victorious. Nevertheless, that didn’t mean the current champion wasn’t arm and neck superior to his challenger. After a studied first round, in which the Brazilian held a bit of advantage, came a string of leg kicks. Aldo fired away at the leg of Faber, who felt it and had trouble keeping his feet. In the fourth round, Aldo went on to show his Jiu-Jitsu is up to speed. He mounted and took his opponent’s back. Then he nearly ended the affair with strikes from crucifix position. In the final round, all he needed to do was administer the action to take the unanimous decision.

Henderson holds on to belt

In his title rematch with Donald Cerrone, Ben Henderson left no questions unanswered. Henderson put in appearances at Jiu-Jitsu competitions in the USA. Not without reason, he got his eighth submission win in MMA. After showing good clinch work, he sunk a snug guillotine and pulled guard. The move, at 1: 57 min of combat, was spot on and Henderson kept his lightweight belt.

Gamburyan knocks out Brown

Former featherweight champion Mike Brown saw his chance to retake the title drift farther out to sea. Against former UFC fighter Manny Gamburyoan, he saw himself getting knocked out. The fighters were trading strikes standing when Manny landed a punch right on the button that laid Brown out 2:22 min into the opening round. With the win, Gamburyan sets himself up as a likely challenger for the title.

Takeya beats Rani

Black belt Jiu-Jitsu and ADCC champion Rani Yahya took a unanimous decision loss to Takeya Mizugaki, after three hard-fought rounds.
