Urijah Faber headlines WEC near-farewell

Faber with ground coach "Pateta"

The WEC sets up its blue cage for the penultimate time ever. Now having its fifty-second installment, the end of the biggest lighter-weight-group promotion in the world has already been declared. The next event, on December 16, will be the last. It is, however, a positive end, as the roster of fighters and their weight groups will be incorporated into the UFC starting in 2011.

This evening in Las Vegas, Urijah Faber will make his light featherweight debut. Following his loss to José Aldo, the former featherweight champion drops a division, where he promises to pursue another belt. Across the cage from the purple belt “California Kid” will be Takeya Mizugaki, a hard-hitting Japanese fighter who promises to be a handful.

Also on the main card is black belt Wagnney Fabiano, who won’t have it easy, as his opponent, Joseph Benavidez, is coming off a title challenge with Dominick Cruz, where he barely fell short.
