Jose Aldo Junior is still the UFC featherweight champion.

The Brazilian was able to retain his belt after a 5-round standing war against Chad Mendes.

According to the judges, Aldo won four out of five rounds to defend his title successfully.

Round 1 begun in full speed with Mendes taking the initiative and hitting Aldo with good punches, but suffering with the counter attacks by the Brazilian.

The fight was so intense that Aldo even hit Mendes after the buzzer.

Rounds two and three were also thrilling with both fighters exchanging fight-ending blows, but neither one was able to hit the mark.

Round four was Mendes’ best, once the American was able to make Aldo walk back many times and also was successful in his takedown attempts.

On round 5, both fighters showed signs of exhaustion and Aldo was able to finish stronger than Mendes.

After the judges’ decision was revealed, Aldo talked about the fight: “He hit me a few times but I hit him many more times”.

He also talked about his next step and refrained not to mention who could be his next opponent: “The division had a king, a prince but we were lacking the clown. With Connor, we have that clown.”

Mendes also talked about the match and the Irish loudmouth: “It was so much fun. Connor, we will meet sometime, somewhere!”
