Often in Jiu-Jitsu simple does the trick. The positions we learn while a white and blue belt we still use at the advanced stages of black belt. With years of practice, obviously, the moves are performed with greater dexterity and better timing, capitalizing on that fraction of a second in which the opponent leaves an opening for a hold to sink effortlessly.

One of the greatest tapout artists in MMA these days, Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares has his work cut out for him this Wednesday against Nate Marquardt at UFC 22 in Texas. Before heading for the challenge, however, Toquinho took the time to teach GRACIEMAG.com readers one of those simple but functional positions.

The move was even tested and approved against Ivan Salaverry at UFC 84, when the Murilo Bustamante black belt made his organizational debut.
