Bitetti Combat 7 featured some good bouts and a bit of controversy this Friday night in Rio de Janeiro. The highlights of the night were Ninja’s use of Jiu-Jitsu, Glover’s win without work, Maldonado’s battle with a game opponent and Cristiano Marcello’s getting “knocked out.”

The evening’s main event saw Murilo Ninja have a scare against Paraguay’s Arturo “Tutu” Arcemedes, suffering a knockdown early on. But he went on to sweep and sink a snug arm-and-neck choke to finish at 1:27 min of the first round. The win was thoroughly enjoyed by Paulo Filho, who, despite having faced Ninja in the past, was cheering for the fighter cageside. Now Glover Teixeira left nothing to chance when faced with Tiago Monaco’s muay thai. He landed a takedown, got the back mount and pounded away till the referee stepped in, all in the first round.

Fabio Maldonado suffered at the hands of Holland’s Jeffie Gibbs, who worked well from the clinch throwing knees. But in the second round the Brazilian’s heavy hand entered the scene. Gibbs landed on all fours and was beaten until it was broken up. The evening’s controversy stemmed from Cristiano Marcello’s fight with Costa Rica’s Alejandro “Mandarina” Solano. Cristiano saw the better of tha action in the first round but in the intense standup exchange that followed the black belt was stunned by the strikes from his opponent. The referee ended the match when many felt it was premature, driving CM System team into a frenzy.

Milton Vieira put on a good display of Jiu-Jitsu when he finished off Peru’s David Cubas Ytanaque in the second round with an armbar. Vitor Miranda dominated the first round against Cassio Drumond, but withdrew during the interval.

In the best bout of the night, Cesar Mutante and Cassiano Tytschyo went toe to toe. Cesar came out on top after landing a concussive blow, opening a gash on his opponent’s face that brought the fight to an end. In the evening’s opener, Leandro Batata went balls to the wall against Wagner Tiburcio in the ground and pound.
