Fedor trounces Ishii on New Year’s Eve

At the turn of the year in Japan, Dream served up an action-packed card to ushe in 2012. In the bantamweight GP, Bibiano Fernandes was crowned champion (read here). But superstars Shinya Aoki and Fedor Emelianenko were also there to put in stellar displays.

In the main event of the evening, Fedor earned his second win since dropping three fights in a row for the first time in his storied career. In just 2:29 minutes, the Russian put away Olympic gold medal, winning judoka Satoshi Ishii.

Aoki, one of the biggest stars in Japan, entered the ring with a shot at equally Rodrigo Minotauro’s submission record. It wouldn’t be this time, though, as his triumph over Satory Kitaoka came via unanimous decision, keeping his record at 19 finishes—one less than the Brazilian heavyweight’s.
