The Brazilian Nationals is changing for 2019.

Used to awarding their athletes in BJJ Pro events around the world, the IBJJF and CBJJ have something new for competitors this year. In the 2019 edition of the Brazilian National Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which takes place from April 27 until May 5 in São Paulo, the men’s and women’s black belt divisions will also have prize money given out, in an egalitarian fashion (depending on the number of athletes signed up).

The announcement was made through the CBJJ’s and IBJJF’s social media accounts this Monday. The measure is another step taken toward the much-requested professionalization of the sport, with fair prizes for competitors.

The prize pools will vary according to the number of participants of each division in the adult black belt sections, with a minimum of two participants required for there to be a prize. Prizes can reach 8,000 reals in weight divisions and up to 10,000 in the absolute.

Enrollment for the 2019 Brazilian Nationals, set to take place at José Corrêa Gymnasium in Barueri, is open until April 19. Click here to be a part of this massive competition. Please note that in order to receive a cash prize, the athlete must have a Brazilian bank account in their name, as well as Brazilian documents such as CPF.
