Martial arts in general are powerful tools for inclusion and education. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fits this category and can assist the development of structural and moral values in the society. With that in mind, the black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, Leandro Lorenco launched his book titled “Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instructorship: the student-to-teacher transition”. The book is available for purchase on Amazon.com, and has as main goal to provide new instructors with basic knowledge in order to increase the presence of competent instructors in the Jiu-Jitsu community.
“I’ve noticed a large number of Jiu-Jitsu books focused on teaching positions and techniques, but I haven’t found a single book focused on the teaching aspect (didactics) of Jiu-Jitsu. As a result of our team’s growth, I saw myself constantly sharing theoretical and practical knowledge with my assistant instructors. That’s when I realized that more instructors could benefit from a simple manual discussing teaching strategies, which could contribute to the exponential growth of our martial art”, explained Wand Fight Team’s head coach.
The work is the fruition of Leandro’s extensive study. Other than his knowledge acquired throughout the years as a student and than as a teacher, he compiled information from books, interviews, lectures and his academic background in physical education and human movement science. The reader will find topics such as motor development, training principles, class planning, among other subjects essential to the foundation of a skilled Jiu-Jitsu instructor.
The first version was launched in English as an ebook through the Kindle platform and it can be purchased on Amazon.com. Leandro plans on launching the paperback version still this year and, in 2020, a Portuguese version for the Brazilian market, his native country.
