The catastrophe provoked by heavy rainfall in the mountain region of Rio de Janeiro has already caused hundreds of deaths and spurred martial arts practitioners to take action. Another campaign for the cause is Kyra Gracie’s.
“We’re in the final stages of implementing Kapacidade Institute, an institution we’re putting together with some friends to help needy children, using sport as a way of educating and including them in society. However, we all feel a great deal of consternation with this tragedy that struck the mountain region in Rio. So we would like to participate in the aid effort in some way. We request donations of clothing, food, and personal hygiene material for us to send to the Red Cross as quickly as possible,” says the black belt.
