summer promoMárcio Pé de Pano and Xande Ribeiro met for the first time at the semifinal of the black belt open class of the 2002 Worlds.

On that day, Pé de Pano won by with a sweep after Xande was able to escape a clock choke.

Pano went on to defeat Xande’s brother, Saulo, in the final for the first of his two absolute gold medals.

The two fought twice after that and Pé was able to win both in 2004 and in 2005.

At the 2005 Pan, they met at the open class final and once again Marcio was able to score 2-0 to win with a sweep very much contested by Saulo.

Since their last encounter, Xande Ribeiro wrote his own name in Jiu-Jitsu’s history with two open class world titles and five gold medals in the heavyweight division, a record at that weight class.
