Following the purpose of improving the experience of each Jiu-Jitsu student, instructor and competitor, the IBJJF is launching the new and improved General System of Graduation. The book is already available at http://www.ibjjf.org/graduation.htm.

The new General System of Graduation arrives with the goal of making the progression of each Jiu-Jitsu student smoother, easier to understand and more fulfilling. The rules for the awarding of each degree and belt are now clearer to students, Instructors and Professors. It also creates a clearer standard for the division of athletes in competitions.

The biggest improvement is the inclusion of a new grading system for athletes 4 to 15 years of age, which separates each belt rank group (gray, yellow, orange and green). This new system for athletes under the age of 16 will make the practice of Jiu-Jitsu more exciting and attractive by providing more frequent graduations, which also provides steady advancement throughout the athlete’s career.

The IBJJF informs that all wait periods shown in the new system are the minimun request for each belt. The Professor is the highest authority to determine when each student will be graduated.

Another big change is the inclusion of the Red and White Belt, which represents the 8th Grade in the Black Belt.

Along with the new General System of Graduation, the IBJJF also made printable posters available with the official Graduation System for Professors and Instructors to post in their schools.

The current General System of Graduation is still evolving and may need to be modified over time according to the needs of Jiu-Jitsu. The IBJJF intends to continue working to make the sport easier, more attractive and satisfying for athletes and professors.
