A montada, assim como a pegada pelas costas, é uma das posições de maior dominância no Jiu-Jitsu. Contudo, como quase nada na arte suave é irreversível ou indefensável, sempre existem atalhos para você sair do sufoco.

No vídeo abaixo, o professor Teco Shinzato, da Evolve, ensina cinco opções para você escapar do adversário que conseguiu chegar na montada.

Como se fala nos tatames, a melhor defesa da montada é não deixar o oponente chegar nela. Mas caso ele chegue, use as táticas e vire o jogo!

Gregor wins in Singapore and ONE FC meets expectations

Gregor Gracie, 24, had his work cut out for him in notching his sixth win in seven MMA fights. Gregor saw action this Saturday in Singapore at ONE FC, a promotion holding its maiden event with the purpose of becoming Asia’s premier MMA show. For now, at least, it is shoring up the market amidst the decline of the sport in the continent’s greatest superpower, Japan.

Facing South Korea’s Seok Mo Kim, the black belt had to go the full three rounds. Of Gregor’s six wins, this is the only one resulting in a decision – a unanimous one. The Gracie managed to pull off a submission in all five of his other victorious performances.

In another heavily anticipated matchup, Yoshiyuki Yoshida overcame former UFC fighter Phil Baroni. Now Roberto Gordo black belts Leandro Brodinho and Zorobabel Moreira, our GMA representatives in Singapore, also defeated their respective opponents.

Gregor vence em Cingapura e ONE FC confirma expectativas

Gregor Gracie, 24 anos, não teve moleza na sexta vitória em sete lutas de MMA. Gregor esteve em ação, neste sábado, no OneFC, evento em Cingapura que tem como meta se firmar como maior organização da Ásia. Por enquanto, pelo menos, agita o mercado frente à decadência da modalidade na até então maior potência do continente, o Japão.

Contra Seok Mo Kim, da Coreia do Sul, o faixa-preta precisou lutar os três rounds. Nas seis vitórias de Gregor, esta é a única por decisão – unânime. Em todas as outras apresentações, o Gracie finalizou.

Em outra luta aguardada, Yoshiyuki Yoshida bateu o ex-UFC Phil Baroni. Já os faixas-pretas de Roberto Gordo Leandro Brodinho e Zorobabel Moreira, representantes da nossa GMA Evolve, também derrotaram os seus oponentes.

In Singapore, Kyra trains Thai boxing for MMA and holds seminar

Five-time Jiu-Jitsu world champion Kyra Gracie is getting ready to brush up on her Thai boxing skills. With her agenda packed full of commitments, the black belt will be holding a seminar at Evolve academy on October 1 in Singapore.

Kyra will also make the most of her time there to get her skills in another style up to speed. She’ll be training Thai boxing with Evolve’s team of Thai boxing instructors, which includes a number of champions and renowned teachers from Thailand.

Could this be the lead-up to an MMA debut? According to the Evolve website, it is.

Cinco vezes campeã do mundo no Jiu-Jitsu, Kyra Gracie se prepara para afiar o muay thai. Com a agenda cheia de compromissos, a faixa-preta faz no dia 1º de outubro um seminário na nossa GMA Evolve, em Cingapura.

Por lá, Kyra também vai aproveitar para se afiar em outra modalidade. Vai treinar muay thai com o time de instrutores da Evolve, que conta com diversos campeões e renomados professores tailandeses.

Seria uma preparação da lutadora para estrear no MMA? Segundo o site da Evolve, sim.

Gordinho helps reinforce attack from the mount

Pass, mount, choke. That’s how Roger Gracie beat most of his opponents in recent years. Basic moves that, when repeated thousands of times over, strengthen a fighter’s foundation.

Rafael Gordinho and Roger come from similar schools, and Roberto Gordo’s younger brother, the head of Evolve academy’s Jiu-Jitsu department and our GMA in Singapore, also makes a point of reinforcing his students’ base so they can evolve without weaknesses in their games.

In the video below the black belt demonstrates tight moves for mounting and getting the choke. Lower belt-rank practitioners, pay close attention. Higher-level practitioners, maybe you can pick up some useful details.

Gordinho ajuda a reforçar o ataque na montada

Passar, montar, estrangular. Dessa forma, Roger Gracie venceu a maioria dos adversários nos últimos anos. Movimentos básicos que, repetidos milhares de vezes, fortalecem os alicerces do lutador.

Rafael Gordinho e Roger vêm de escolas parecidas, e o irmão mais novo de Roberto Gordo, responsável pelo Jiu-Jitsu na Evolve, nossa GMA em Cingapura, também costuma reforçar a base dos seus alunos para que evoluam sem brechas no jogo.

No vídeo abaixo, o faixa-preta mostra (em inglês) alguns movimentos bem justos para montar e estrangular. Menos graduados, prestem atenção. Mais graduados, quem sabe não dá para pegar mais alguns ajustes?

Gordo-Evolve trabalha duro

A equipe comandada pelo faixa-preta Roberto Correa, o Gordo, está com desafios por todo o planeta. Só para citar alguns, Rafael dos Anjos tem encontro marcado com Clay Guida no UFC 117, no dia 7 de agosto. Já Arthur Gogó deve voltar a lutar em Cingapura, onde venceu na última apresentação, enquanto Wendel Negão faz duas lutas no Brasil.

Para reforçar a preparação, o time conta com a presença do treinador tailandês Kru Toy, filho do renomado mestre Yotong Senan, formadores de diversos campeões mundiais da muay thai. No Sityodtong Camp, o CT da família de Kru Toy, já passaram atletas do UFC como Kenny Florian, Patrick Cote, Mark Dellagrotte e Stephan Bonnar, entre muitos outros.

Gordo-Evolve hard at work

The team led by black belt Roberto “Gordo” Correa has impending battles across the planet. Just to name a few, Rafael dos Anjos has a meeting set with Clay Guida at UFC 117 this August 7^th. Now, Arthur Gogó should fight again in Singapore, where he won his last appearance, while Wendel Negão has two bouts scheduled in Brazil.

To bolster their prep work, the team received Thai trainer Kru Toy, the son of famed master Yotong Senan, who has produced a number of muay thai world champions. Sityodtong Camp, Kru Toy’s family’s training center, has been the training grounds of UFC fighters like Kenny Florian, Patrick Cote, Mark Dellagrotte and Stephan Bonnar, among others.

Tailandês treina Rafael dos Anjos para Guida

Filho do mestre Yotong Senan, formador de diversos campeões de muay thai, o tailandês Kru Toy já está na sede da Gracie Fusion / Evolve, no Rio de Janeiro.

“Ele está aí para treinar o Rafael dos Anjos para a sua próxima luta e para iniciar o programa de muay thai na Evolve Brasil”, conta o irmão do mestre Roberto Gordo Rafael Gordinho, responsável pelos treinos da Evolve em Cingapura.

Rafael dos Anjos encara Clay Guida no UFC 117, que acontece no dia 7 de agosto. Além do lutador do Ultimate, muitas outras feras do time aproveitarão o treinamento, lutadores como Eduardo Pachu, Diego Braga e Arthur Gogó, entre muitos outros.

In a project that brought in our entire team of journalists, our IT consultant Claudinei Matos and designer/programmer Marlus Araujo, our art director Victor Gruzman drew up our news portal from scratch to fundamentally improve communication between GRACIEMAG and the thousands of readers who access the locale on a daily basis.

Beyond being merely a place to become informed, the objective is for GRACIEMAG.com to be a meeting place for everyone involved in Jiu-Jitsu. An enormous round table for discussion, at which information propagates, interacts and ultimately doesn’t just further everyone’s knowledge regarding Jiu-Jitsu, but expands Jiu-Jitsu itself.

We know this is no modest objective. But there are several factors contributing to our accomplishing it:

To start, we took advantage of the most advanced technology available so the site would be nimble, easy to navigate and search through, attend to all the interactive demands of what experts call Web 2.0, and mainly so it would ride on a platform permitting adaptation to any new directions the online world may head. And, beyond that, that it be visually pleasant and attractive to behold.

Of course technology, platform and design don’t get you anywhere without content. To lead this new phase of the portal we called on Marcelo Dunlop, former editor-in-chief of the GRACIEMAG magazine in print, who has been polishing up his knowledge of journalism and Jiu-Jitsu with us since 2002. His e-mail:mdunlop@graciemag.com.

Rafael Werneck, who has in his charge NOCAUTE magazine as editor-in-chief, passed on the torch he carried for five years of brave toil at GRACIEMAG.com’s helm, and now goes on to assume other functions in the company.

And, last but most important of all, for us to achieve our lofty goals we count on the participation of you, the thousands upon thousands of readers and Jiu-Jitsu practitioners.

In the technological world, the end of this decade was marked by the “Open Source” movement, which is guaranteed to move forth through the collaboration of people from all over the world, building knowledge on top of knowledge. As the example most present in the lives of the majority, the content of Wikipedia follows this trend.

In much the same way, the content of GRACIEMAG.com 2.0 also counts on this complex, collective participation. The comments on it will set up this knowledge structure we aspire to.

You have a great weapon in your hands. Use it wisely and we will build the greatest Jiu-Jitsu information bank ever to exist, perpetuating this marvelous art of ours. Use it with prejudice and disrespect and, unfortunately, we will be forced to mediate and refuse access to those who so behave.

The rules we follow are basically the same ones we learn in the academy: respect, hierarchy, discipline, humility. In a nutshell, etiquette universally approved of by us practitioners. Enjoy.
