Famous for his videos on the Internet, Australia’s Kit Dale recently showed that his BJJ is up to snuff by winning all four golds up for grabs at the Sydney Open.

In the gi absolute, Dale beat former UFC fighter Yan Cabral after the Brazilian suffered a shoulder injury. In the no-gi absolute, however, Dale had to come up with a submission to secure the gold.

It was against Reid Reale, whom Dale had already defeated in the medium heavyweight gi final. In their second final, Dale achieved a choke from the back with just one hand. Note that, before his other hand arrived to tighten up the chokehold, his opponent had already surrendered. Now that’s tight! Check it out in this video.

Famoso por seus vídeos na internet, o australiano Kit Dale mostrou que seus conhecimentos de Jiu-Jitsu também estão em dia. A fera faturou os quatro ouros da faixa-preta no Sydney Open de Jiu-Jitsu, em disputas com e sem kimono.

No absoluto de kimono, Dale venceu o ex-UFC Yan Cabral, após o brasileiro sofrer uma lesão no ombro. No absoluto sem kimono, porém, Kit Dale teve de finalizar para garantir o ouro.

O duelo foi contra Reid Reale, atleta que Dale já havia batido pelo ouro peso meio-pesado de kimono. Para liquidar a fatura e garantir o topo do pódio, o australiano estrangulou pela costas com apenas uma das mãos. Repare que antes de chegar com a mão oposta para arrochar o seu adversário já havia batido. Finalização com belo ajuste.

Australia’s Kit Dale was the big winner of the Sydney Open, held last weekend in Australia. Dale, who had been away from competitions due to a knee surgery, came back with a vengeance and won everything there was to win, meaning the medium heavyweight and open divisions in both the gi and no-gi sections of the event. Most notable was his absolute gi final win over UFC fighter Yan Cabral.

No mês passado, sua revista predileta de Jiu-Jitsu levantou uma questão sobre treino para você, leitor, pensar e argumentar.

O questionamento é sobre o famigerado drill, repetição exaustiva de uma mesma técnica.

Relembramos hoje o debate, com os faixas-pretas Gianni Grippo e Kit Dale, presente na GRACIEMAG edição #211.
Na maioria das academias de Jiu Jitsu, há um formato para cada aula que inclui tempo para praticar uma técnica e tempo para o rola. Mas quanto tempo deve ser conferido a cada um? Dois faixas-pretas de lados opostos do planeta argumentaram sobre qual é a melhor abordagem: mais repetições ou nenhuma repetição?

O americano Gianni Grippo, faixa preta de Marcelo Garcia e ganhador de vários títulos mundiais, acredita que o drill – a repetição exaustiva de uma técnica – explica o bom desempenho histórico que ele tem em treinos e competições.

O australiano Kit Dale, campeão no Asian Open e em Abu Dhabi, acha que o drill é muito restritivo e que o Jiu Jitsu deve girar em torno da expressão própria – não da reprodução de técnicas ensaiadas.

Diz Gianni: “Sinto que os drills foram benéficos ao meu jogo e que os resultados provam isso. Como faixa marrom novato, eu não tinha ideia do que era um leg drag, mas, quando comecei a repetir o movimento incessantemente, tornou-se natural buscar a passagem. Agora, sou capaz de enxergar variados pontos de partida para buscar o leg drag. E isso ocorreu com todas as técnicas em que fiz drill. O meu arsenal cresceu, e cada técnica que repito fica mais justa e eficaz”.

A resposta de Kit: “A meta definitiva de qualquer arte é articular o que está na sua mente em forma de arte, expressar-se honestamente – e não mediante o ensaio duma forma rígida. Trata-se de inovar no momento, na hora certa para lidar com a situação presente. Atochar algo na sua memória muscular com repetição equivale a virar prisioneiro dessa técnica, e buscar a técnica perfeita é tão frutífero quanto um cachorro correr atrás do próprio rabo. A técnica perfeita pertence a uma arte finita em sua forma e seus movimentos. Nada é mais distante disso quando que o Jiu Jitsu”.

A World Jiu-Jitsu Expo anunciou outra superluta em sua programação. O australiano Kit Dale vai enfrentar o brasileiro Ricardo Rezende, faixa-preta de Roberto Cyborg. O torneio de Renzo Gracie está programado para os dias 18 e 19 de outubro, no Centro de Convenções de Long Beach, na Califórnia.

O combate será com o tradicional paletó com duração de 15 minutos, nas regras da IBJJF. Os atletas concordaram competir no peso até 84kg.

A Jiu-Jitsu Expo ainda vai oferecer diversos seminários gratuitos com astros da arte suave. Feras como os irmãos Mendes, Marcus Buchecha, Roberto Cyborg, Leozinho Vieira, Augusto Tanquinho e Mackenzie Dern, Rodrigo Cavaca e Robert Drysdale já estão confirmados.

The World Jiu-Jitsu Expo has added another superfight to its schedule.

Australian Kit Dale will be facing Brazilian Ricardo Rezende.

The match will be 15 minutes long under IBJJF rules in the gi.

The fighters agreed to compete in the 185lb category.

The World Jiu-Jitsu Expo takes place October 18-19, at the Long Beach Convention Center.

The event has the following attractions already confirmed.

Marcus Buchecha, Leo Veira, the Mendes Bros, Rodrigo Cavaca & Robert Drysdale, Augusto Tanquinho & Mackenzie Dern and Roberto Cyborg will be teaching seminars.

All seminars at the WJJE will be in the gi.

Three IBJJF events will take place during the Expo: IBJJF Pro League, the American Nationals Kids and the Long Beach Open.

Garry Tonon vs. Kron Gracie at the 2013 ADCC

Garry Tonon first made the headlines at the last ADCC, when he waged a true war against Kron Gracie in the -77kg division.

Pupil of Tom DeBlass, Tonon comes from the lineage of Ricardo Almeida and Renzo Gracie.

More active in the no-gi circuit, the young talent, only 22 years old, is already showing some great novelties when it comes to technique.

Looking a while back, we found this video that proves that Jiu-Jitsu is also no joke.

At the ADCC 2000, Josh Barnett faced a much smaller Ricardo Almeida and things did not go so well.

Last Saturday, he awed the gentle art community with what he called the “Donkey Guard”.

The technique consists of turning his back to the opponent and waiting for him to make a move and then attack.

You can see that in the very first move of Metamoris 4 secret match against Baret Yoshida.

When the Hawaiian goes for Glover’s back, he reacts and almost locks a heel hook.

The strategy created a lot of buzz, with lovers and haters spread over the internet.

During the broadcast, Ryron Gracie complained about Glover’s moves, specially and he stood upside down at one point, doing a yoga position.

Glover himself reacted to the buzz with a post on his Facebook page: “If donkey guard upsets you , just know this . At one point , closed guard pissed people off . New ideas will always be looked at as a challenge of old methods , that we have seamed to formed emotional attachments to. Try to keep an open mind . Maybe even try the method . Donkey guard is dope . You just wouldn’t know , because you live in the past , and don’t how to progress the sport . The way I see it , why not make up new moves ? What kind of cookie cutter student are you ? Maybe you need a new coach or teacher , who isn’t stuck in the 1970s …”
