“Para o seu Jiu-Jitsu alcançar o nível mais alto de sofisticação e excelência, é precisar criar novos desafios a todo momento”, explica o professor Fabrício Lopes. “Só assim você escapa da zona de conforto e não permite que a sua técnica e o seu condicionamento físico e mental se rendam à estagnação.”

Foi a partir desse ponto de vista que Fabrício resolveu aumentar ainda mais o grau de desafio dos campeonatos: o faixa-preta passou a disputar, no mesmo evento, as modalidades com e sem kimono.

“É uma forma de verificarmos se o nosso jogo é completo realmente e, sobretudo, adaptável”, explica Fabricio. “Muita gente é refém das pegadas no pano e também da aderência, de uma disputa mais lenta… E assim acaba se frustrando quando disputa combates sem kimono”, analisa.

Campeão do último Houston Open da IBJJF, tanto na divisão com kimono, como também na etapa sem kimono, Fabrício conclui:

“Por outro lado, claro, há quem goste apenas de lutar sem kimono e acaba se tornando presa fácil em armadilhas com lapela, gola, manga, calça… É por isso que testo o meu Jiu-Jitsu em ambas as modalidades, uma ótima forma de me aprimorar como lutador de uma maneira geral. É muito interessante, por exemplo, traçar estratégias quando mudamos o uniforme de combate.”

O casca-grossa faturou o duplo ouro na competição ao bater a fera Jard Dopp (Ribeiro JJ) na final do pesadíssimo e após a desistência de Inácio Neto (Gracie Barra) que se lesionou e não pode fazer a final do aberto, deixando o caminho livre para Aly garantir o topo do pódio.

Team Lloyd Irvin’s Mahamed Aly was the standout of the 2016 Houston Open, this Saturday.

The Brazilian won both the ultraheavy division and the open class.

In his weight class, Aly beat long-time rival Jared Dopp by points (watch the video below).

In the open class, after finishing Dopp with an attack to the leg the semifinal, Aly became the champion when an injured Inacio Neto forfeited the match.

The Houston Open continues this Sunday with blue belt and white belt divisions.

Draculino and his team of black belts in Texas

The IBJJF Houston Open is one of the biggest Jiu-Jitsu Championships in the USA and its last edition happened this past Feb. 7-8, 2015. The event had, one more time, Gracie Barra Texas as the winning team. It is unheard to have a team that won an IBJJF Open Championship in American soil for 6 times in a row. GB is maintaining its position as the number one BJJ organization in results and number of schools in the state of Texas.

This Feb. 28 the winning team will be hosting a special benefit seminar to help a little girl battle Leukemia:

One of our long-standing students, Kaiy Matthews, needs our help! Kaiy, an orange belt under Professor Draculino, was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Kaiy is currently undergoing treatments at St. Jude’s Texas Children’s Hospital and is responding well to his treatments. The Matthews family has a long battle ahead of them and could use all the support we can give.

Professor Draculino is holding a Special Benefit Seminar for Kaiy, where all proceeds will go to the Matthews family in order to help them with their battle. Professor Eduardo De Lima, one of Master Carlos Gracie Jr’s right hand men, will host the Seminar! An expert in submission defense/escapes, there will be a ton of valuable information being taught that can help strengthen everyone’s jiu-jitsu game.

The Seminar will be help on Saturday, February 28th at 11:00am. Minimum donation to attend is $50, but any and all donations are appreciated. This will be a special seminar and there will be numerous black belts on the mat, including Kaiy’s father, Professor Jeremiah Matthews (one of Professor Draculino’s first Black Belts from his Texas academy)! Come and take advantage of a great seminar and help support one of our fellow brothers in their fight! ALL SCHOOLS ARE WELCOME!

O faixa-preta Diego Gamonal fez isso no Houston Open de Jiu-Jitsu, no último fim de semana. Antes de conquistar o título da categoria pesado, ainda na semifinal, o atleta da BTT Texas fintou um ataque no pescoço de seu adversário, já esperando a defesa para dar o bote no braço:

“O detalhe da posição é sempre manter o adversário ocupado se defendendo. Quando chego ao cem-quilos, ao mesmo tempo que envolvo o braço, começo a atacar o pescoço. Se ele defender um, vou pro outro. No torneio ele me empurrou pra defender o pescoço e acabou esquecendo o braço”, explicou Diego.

GFTeam black belt, Gabriel Kitober won the most disputed gold medal at the Houston Open Jiu-Jitsu tournament held by the IBJJF last weekend. Kitober won the absolute, but got silver at the ultra heavyweight division in which Bruno Bastos was 1^st place.

In the dispute for teams, Bastos celebrated as well. His young team, one of the strongest in the competitions in Texas, was second overall, losing only to Gracie Barra. The GFTeam ended up in third place.

Between the females, the highlight was the lightweight Fabiana Borges (GB), which won the absolute. The featherweight Kiri Liao (Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu) was the runner-up.

The IBJJF tournament had other highlights such as Justin Rader, featherweight champion, the GFTeam Vitor beast Vitor Oliveira, middle weight champion and silver in the absolute, Ignatius Neto (light heavyweight), Diego Gamonal (heavy) and the absolute brown belt champion, Peter Lucas Araujo from Gracie Barra.

“The detail is always setting up the grips, so that when you start squeezing it does not loose neither the pressure nor the position. Only a tight black belt submits”, taught Vitor.
