Em um cenário cada vez mais competitivo e profissional, com novas organizações surgindo e ampliando o mercado das superlutas, o ADCC World Championship chega a 2026 reafirmando sua posição como o torneio mais desafiador e prestigiado do grappling mundial. A combinação entre chave dura, regras que favorecem o jogo agressivo e a presença da elite global transforma o evento em um verdadeiro divisor de águas na carreira de qualquer atleta, agora ainda mais valorizado pelo aumento significativo da premiação. O evento está marcado para os dias 12 e 13 de setembro, em Cracóvia, Polônia.

“O ADCC ainda é super importante e um impulsionador de carreira. O título não é tarefa fácil. É a selva mais perigosa do grappling na atualidade”, afirma o jornalista Vitor Freitas, criador do VF Comunica, portal especializado em Jiu-Jitsu, que destacou que a dificuldade do torneio é justamente o que sustenta seu peso histórico dentro do esporte. “Não tem como escolher adversário. Seja por convite ou seletiva, você sabe que vai enfrentar pedreiras do início ao fim. O título tem um peso gigante para a carreira.”

Entre os principais nomes para a disputa, o jornalista aponta atletas que vivem grande fase, como Diogo Reis e Mica Galvão. “Diogo está sempre ativo e isso faz ele chegar muito forte. Já o Mica é um artista da finalização, sempre ofensivo, e o ADCC favorece muito o estilo dele. A nova geração europeia também tem revelado talentos. Nomes como Niko Mikulyszyn e Marlon Tajik podem surpreender.”

Mesmo com o crescimento de eventos como o UFC BJJ, o torneio mantém seu protagonismo no cenário global. “O atleta precisa construir carreira e não tem outro caminho sem conquistar títulos importantes como o ADCC”, destaca Vitor, profissional que atua no mercado de Grappling há mais de uma década.

O aumento da premiação também reposiciona o evento no mercado. “O ADCC sai de um lugar ‘sagrado, mas pouco rentável’ e entra na briga com quem já vinha pagando bem. Agora ele é um alvo completo: legado e dinheiro. Por isso, ganhar ADCC continua sendo o selo máximo do grappling sem kimono. É o tipo de conquista que encerra discussão e valida a carreira”, concluiu.

With over two decades dedicated to Jiu-Jitsu, Diogo Souza represents a generation that has helped shape the growth of the IBJJF master divisions. At 44 years old, born in 1981, the 4th-degree black belt, who began training in 2001 and earned his black belt in 2011, remains active and competitive, standing as a clear example of longevity in the sport.

For Souza, the biggest shift from the adult division to Master 3 is not just physical, but mental.

“In the adult division, everything is very intense, very physical, and fast-paced. In the master division, experience plays a much bigger role. Today, I choose my moments better, I rely more on timing and strategy, and I focus on efficiency. It’s not about using more strength or wasting energy, it’s about understanding the right moment to push, attack, and control the match. Maturity makes your game more technical and intelligent,” he explained.

Despite the evolution in style, one goal remains unchanged across all levels of experience: the absolute division. Souza emphasizes that it continues to represent one of the purest tests in Jiu-Jitsu.

“The absolute division has a very special meaning because it tests the essence of technique. You can face heavier, stronger opponents with completely different styles. When you win that division, it shows that your technique, strategy, and mindset can overcome physical differences. Even for experienced athletes, it remains one of the most valuable achievements,” he said.

Maintaining high-level performance after the age of 40, according to Souza, requires a more complete and disciplined approach, both on and off the mats.

“After 40, performance comes much more from intelligence than just intensity. I strongly believe in balancing training, recovery, and discipline outside the mats. Sleep, nutrition, strength work, mobility, and injury prevention become just as important as technical training,” he noted.

That maturity also directly impacts competition strategy, especially when comparing weight divisions to the absolute.

“In your weight class, you usually face opponents with similar physical attributes, so strategy is more about style, grips, pace, and technical imposition. In the absolute division, adaptation is key. You have to adjust distance, timing, and risk management because you might face someone much bigger or more explosive. The approach becomes more tactical, focusing on positioning, leverage, and control,” he explained.

The continued growth of the master divisions in IBJJF events reflects a broader evolution within the sport, and athletes like Souza are at the center of that shift.

“This shows how Jiu-Jitsu has evolved into a sport of longevity. Today, we see athletes over 40 competing at a very high level, which proves that technique matures over time and modern preparation allows for a long career. Jiu-Jitsu stays with you for life,” he concluded.

O crescimento da divisão master no Jiu-Jitsu competitivo deixou de ser tendência e passou a ser realidade. Com maior número de atletas e nível técnico elevado, a categoria hoje ocupa um espaço relevante nos principais eventos da IBJJF. Para Romualdo Lucas, faixa-preta com atuação internacional, esse avanço está diretamente ligado à permanência de atletas experientes no esporte.

“Se analisarmos os números do último Pan, a divisão master teve um número muito mais relevante. Cada vez mais ela vem mostrando ser tão interessante quanto a adulto”, diz o atleta. Segundo ele, a presença de nomes que já construíram história na elite eleva o nível geral. “Muitos atletas que fizeram uma trajetória forte na adulto continuam lutando na master. Isso mostra que não tem vida fácil pra ninguém”, comenta o faixa-preta, que tem 24 anos de Jiu-Jitsu e nove com a graduação que ostenta na cintura.

Mito ou realidade: é mais fácil ganhar na master?

A ideia de que a divisão master seria mais acessível ainda existe, mas Romualdo é direto ao rebater.

“Acho que não tem mais caminho fácil para ninguém. Quando você olha quem está ali, muitos já foram campeões do Mundial, Brasileiro, Pan. É uma divisão tão difícil quanto qualquer outra ou até mais. A luta dura cinco minutos e um erro pode decidir tudo”, diz o professor.

Outro ponto que define o nível da divisão é o encontro entre diferentes fases da carreira dentro da mesma categoria. Segundo Romualdo, isso cria um cenário imprevisível.

“Você pode enfrentar um atleta com mais de 10 anos só de faixa-preta. Um recém-graduado vai pegar alguém muito experientE. Existe chance para os dois lados, mas quem está chegando vai ter que ralar bastante”, reforça o competidor.

Análise pessoal e leitura de jogo

Mesmo com experiência no circuito internacional, Romualdo mantém uma visão crítica sobre sua própria preparação. Ele reconhece que pode evoluir na leitura estratégica das competições.

“Preciso me policiar mais para analisar meus adversários e estudar minha divisão. Eu confio no jogo que vou colocar, independente de quem vou enfrentar. Acabo analisando mais as lutas deles do que as minhas.”, detalha o representante da Gracie Barra.

Os erros mais comuns de quem está começando

Ao olhar para o desenvolvimento de novos praticantes, Romualdo aponta três erros recorrentes. O primeiro é a pressa.

“O cara quer aprender tudo muito rápido, quer resposta pra tudo. O Jiu-Jitsu exige tempo”, diz o faixa-preta. Muita gente desanima com dificuldade, mas isso faz parte do processo”, comenta.

Por fim, ele destaca a comparação como um problema comum. “Se comparar com o colega de treino é um erro. Cada um tem seu ritmo”, afirma. Para ele, o caminho é simples: “Curta o processo.”

The UAE government implemented Jiu-Jitsu into the national school curriculum, and the sport is now taught in more than 140 schools across the country. Combined with world-class events such as the Abu Dhabi World Pro and the rapid expansion of academies, Jiu-Jitsu has become more accessible than ever before.

“Beyond competition, Jiu-Jitsu has played a major role in developing discipline, confidence, and real social connection,” Alexandre says. “Being part of this journey—from the early days to seeing our students excel today—has been incredibly rewarding.”

“Jiu-Jitsu meets people where they are,” Alexandre reflects. “And it helps them become a better version of themselves.”

Rafael cresceu sob influência direta do pai, que não apenas apresentou o Jiu-Jitsu como “escolheu essa vida para mim quando eu ainda era uma criança”, relembra. Rodney foi o primeiro incentivador e responsável por direcioná-lo ao caminho das competições desde cedo.
O passo seguinte foi decisivo: aos 14 anos, Rafael se mudou para São José dos Campos para integrar o programa dos irmãos Cláudio e Marco Calasans, vivendo integralmente do Jiu-Jitsu ainda adolescente. Mas foi com André Galvão, líder da Atos e uma das maiores lendas do esporte, que Rafael deu o salto definitivo. Através de Calasans, Rafael foi convidado a treinar na Atos HQ, em San Diego, convivendo diariamente com campeões mundiais.

“O André me deu a oportunidade de vir para os EUA. Aprendi a ser mais profissional, conviver com ídolos, aprender com pessoas que eu via só na televisão. As pessoas que vi treinar mais na vida foram o André Galvão no camp do ADCC e o Calasans Jr. em 2015. Eles são lendas porque eram muito esforçados.” É desse trio — pai, Calasans e Galvão — que nasce o DNA competitivo e humano de Rafael.

Depois de contextualizar as raízes da sua mentalidade competitiva, Rafael entra no tema que muitos consideram o auge técnico antes da faixa-preta: sua fase marrom. Ele viveu ali o pior e o melhor ano da carreira. O momento mais difícil foi a perda de sua avó, um mês antes do Mundial. No evento, acabou desclassificado por uma decisão altamente controversa: “Fiquei devastado por tudo estar acontecendo ao mesmo tempo.”

Today, at just 24 years old, he is a three-time world champion, five-time Brazilian champion, and owner of one of the most consistent and well-built ascensions in modern BJJ.

Coming off a nearly undefeated brown belt run and promoted to black belt by André Galvão, Rafael represents a new generation of athletes who combine refined technique, mature mindset, and unwavering professionalism. Roots on the mat: a path chosen early

Rafael grew up under the direct influence of his father, who not only introduced him to Jiu-Jitsu but, in his words, chose this life for me when I was still a kid. Rodney was his first motivator and the one who pushed him early toward competition.

The next step was decisive: at just 14, Rafael moved to São José dos Campos to join the training program run by brothers Cláudio and Marco Calasans, living the Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle full time as a teenager. He remembers Calasans Jr. as the turning point of my career, someone who shaped not only his technical game but also his competitive posture.

He admits: I got inspired, I mirrored myself in him, I copied everything — from the way he fought to the calm yet aggressive behavior he had in matches.

But it was with André Galvão, leader of Atos and one of the sport’s greatest legends, that Rafael took the definitive leap. Through Calasans, he was invited to train at Atos HQ in San Diego, sharing the mat daily with world champions.

André gave me the opportunity to come to the U.S. I learned to be more professional, to live among idols, to learn from people I only saw on TV.

He highlights two figures who set the standard of effort in his mind: Galvão during ADCC camp, and Calasans Jr. in 2015.

The two people I’ve seen work the hardest in my life were André Galvão in ADCC camp and Calasans Jr. in 2015. They are legends because they were insanely dedicated.

“Eu estava muito acima do peso e queria um esporte novo que não fosse natação, porque minha vida toda fiz natação por causa de um problema no joelho”, conta Letícia, hoje faixa-preta, ao relembrar.

Após quatro cirurgias e a liberação médica para praticar qualquer atividade física, ela iniciou os treinos na GFTeam Higienópolis, com Bruno Guedes e Sergio Perez, onde evoluiu da faixa branca à roxa.

Mais tarde, seguiu dentro da GFTeam com Thiago Cidro, no Guetto, em Madureira, onde foi graduada à faixa marrom. Logo depois, veio a grande virada: a mudança para São Paulo e a passagem pela equipe Fratres.

No início da temporada 2025, Letícia vive uma das maiores fases da carreira profissional. A atleta chegou ao ápice da faixa-marrom com o título mundial conquistado em Long Beach, na Califórnia.

“Ser campeã mundial foi um divisor de águas. Eu estava mudando de país, cheia de incertezas, e esse título representou a certeza de que todo o esforço valeu a pena”, afirma Letícia, faixa-preta da Atos.

A conquista coroou um ano quase perfeito na IBJJF, com pódios importantes e o sentimento de que nada é impossível.

“Já tinha uma medalha de prata e duas de bronze, e isso me ensinou que todas as portas que eu quero, eu abro — uma hora ou outra. Posso não encontrar o caminho de primeira, mas não paro até conseguir”, comenta a nova joia do jiu-jitsu.

Hoje, cinco meses após ser graduada à faixa-preta, Letícia encara um novo capítulo.

“Essa fase tem sido desafiadora, mas meu objetivo é me firmar entre as grandes da minha categoria, conquistar títulos de expressão e parar de fazer trabalhos paliativos fora do jiu-jitsu”, diz. Ela reforça que quer continuar evoluindo “tecnicamente e mentalmente, me tornando uma versão ainda melhor de mim mesma.”

Além das conquistas, Letícia carrega uma visão inspiradora sobre o papel das mulheres no tatame.

“Acredito que cada atleta tem um papel importante no fortalecimento do jiu-jitsu feminino. Ainda existe uma barreira de reconhecimento, mas procuro ser exemplo de dedicação e persistência, mostrando que as mulheres podem alcançar o mais alto nível dentro do esporte.”

Champion in both weight and absolute divisions at the IBJJF Orange County Fall Open, Letícia Teixeira continues to establish herself as one of the rising forces of the new generation at Atos HQ. The black belt, who now trains under professors André and Angélica Galvão, carries a journey marked by resilience, evolution, and an unconditional love for Jiu-Jitsu.

Letícia began training about seven years ago, at 18, when she was looking for a new way to improve her health.

“I was very overweight and wanted a sport that wasn’t swimming, because I had spent my entire life swimming due to a knee problem,” Letícia recalls, now a black belt.

After undergoing four surgeries and finally being cleared to practice any physical activity, she started training at GFTeam Higienópolis with Bruno Guedes and Sergio Perez, where she progressed from white belt to purple belt.

Later, she continued her path within GFTeam under Thiago Cidro at Guetto, in Madureira, where she was promoted to brown belt. Soon after came the turning point: moving to São Paulo and joining the Fratres team.

Entering the 2025 season, Letícia is experiencing one of the highest moments of her competitive career. She reached the peak of her brown belt journey with a world title earned in Long Beach, California.

“Becoming a world champion was a turning point. I was moving to another country, full of uncertainties, and that title was the confirmation that all the hard work was worth it,” says Letícia, now a black belt representing Atos.

The achievement crowned an almost perfect year in the IBJJF, marked by major podium finishes and the growing belief that nothing is impossible.

“I already had a silver medal and two bronzes, and that taught me that every door I want to open eventually opens. I might not find the path on my first try, but I don’t stop until I get there,” says one of the newest gems of women’s Jiu-Jitsu.

Now, five months after earning her black belt, Letícia faces a new chapter.

“This phase has been challenging, but my goal is to establish myself among the top athletes in my division, win major titles, and stop relying on side jobs outside of Jiu-Jitsu,” she explains. She adds that she wants to keep evolving “technically and mentally, becoming an even better version of myself.”

Beyond the medals, Letícia carries an inspiring perspective on the role of women on the mats.

“I believe every athlete plays an important role in strengthening women’s Jiu-Jitsu. There is still a barrier when it comes to recognition, but I try to lead by example through dedication and persistence, showing that women can reach the highest level in our sport.”

During a technical demonstration, Rafael presented one of the most common street-aggression scenarios: an attacker pulling someone backward by the collar in an attempt to take them down or apply a choke. His response captures the essence of Jiu-Jitsu—using intelligence, leverage, and biomechanics to neutralize brute force.

Feeling the sudden pull on the neck, Rafael controls the attacker’s arm with both hands to prevent the choke. He then drops his weight onto the arm, steps strategically backward to position the back of his knee behind the attacker’s leg, rotates his body 180 degrees, and establishes a solid base to execute a safe and efficient takedown.

Just as in Jiu-Jitsu—where practitioners learn to turn a disadvantageous situation into an opportunity—the technique illustrates that true strength lies in understanding movement rather than resisting it. When performed with technical awareness, self-defense becomes a tool of protection and transformation, both physically and emotionally.

In 2025, Rafael expanded his influence beyond Brazil. Invited by two established academy networks in the United States, he traveled to Texas in August and October, where he led technical seminars, instructor-development sessions, methodology-standardization trainings, and classes for athletes of various experience levels. The reception was overwhelmingly positive: academy owners and local coaches praised Rafael’s unique ability to convey advanced concepts with clarity, precision, and didactic structure—hallmarks of the Demian Maia methodology that have shaped his career as an instructor.

These initiatives strengthened his growing international reputation and demonstrated how Brazilian instructors—when technically well-prepared and aligned with a solid pedagogical method—can elevate teaching standards in academies around the world. Just as a white belt evolves under the guidance of an experienced teacher, entire schools grow when led by professionals with vision, method, and a genuine passion for teaching.

Um dos filmes que marcou minha infância/início da adolescência foi “O Rei Leão”. Além dos personagens cativantes e da marcante trilha sonora ganhadora do Oscar, a animação de 1994 contava uma grande história de coragem, legado e redenção.

No início do filme, Simba era apresentado como um jovem leão herdeiro do reino animal governado por seu pai, o Rei Mufasa.

Mufasa e Simba são amados e respeitados por seus súditos, exceto o invejoso princípe Scar e suas hienas sedentas por sangue e risadas. Por uma armação de Scar, Simba é incriminado pela morte de Mufasa e mandado para o exílio. É preciso que Simba entenda seu papel na História do reino, reúna coragem e retorne à selva para destronar Scar, reconquistando seu legado.

A película acaba com o agora Rei Simba apresentando seu filhote e futuro herdeiro ao reino animal, para recomeçar o ciclo da vida. Quem diria que essa saga emocionante poderia se repetir, dessa vez no reino do UFC?

Charles “do Bronx” Oliveira é um dos campeões mais amados do MMA, não só por ser o ex-campeão peso leve do UFC, o maior finalizador da história da organização e detentor de vários recordes. Seu estilo agressivo e destemido de luta, seu Jiu-Jitsu fluido, sua humildade e seu carisma natural fizeram-no ser reverenciado no mundo inteiro.

Como não amar alguém que solta espontaneamente frases como “eu sou o problema da divisão”, “o campeão tem nome e é Charles Oliveira” ou “pode vim, fio. Mas vem sem entender nada”; após finalizar grandes nomes do esporte como Dustin Poirier e Justin Gaethje?

Dentre as assertivas antológicas do nosso filósofo guerreiro, talvez a mais marcante seja: “Sou um leão no meio dos leões. E um leão embaçado! Vou continuar fazendo história, quebrando recordes.” Uma profecia digna da epopeia do felino da Disney.

Quando Oliveira caiu apagado pela patada brutal de Ilia Topuria, em junho de 2025, as hienas logo avançaram. Parte da imprensa e do volátil público brasileiro tentou mandar Charles para o exílio da aposentadoria. Em vez de fugir e ficar remoendo o trauma, nosso Leão Embaçado não quis saber de Hakuna Matata e logo se prontificou a liderar o card de um UFC Fight Night a ser realizado no Brasil. Para ele, lutar em seu reino era a melhor maneira de curar suas feridas e reaver a confiança de seus súditos.

Não acreditei quando as hienas se apressaram a tratá-lo como azarão contra o polonês Mateusz Gamrot. Na minha cabeça, mesmo após o brutal nocaute que havia sofrido, não havia como o dono do Jiu-Jitsu mais plástico e ofensivo do UFC sucumbir ao jogo de solo amarrado de Gamrot. Antes da luta, Mateusz cutucou o leão com vara curta. Disse que iria testar o chão do brasileiro e aposentá-lo. O papagaio fala e o leão ruge.

Na luta principal da noite de 11 de outubro, sob estrondosos aplausos e incentivo da multidão que lotava a Farmasi Arena, Charles partiu para cima do oponente, encaixou bons golpes e levou Gamrot a rapidamente buscar a queda. Do Bronx então mostrou por que está no topo da cadeia alimentar do Jiu-Jitsu: usou sua movimentação inigualável para encaixar uma chave omoplata, inverter a posição e vencer o primeiro round.

No segundo turno, Mateuz não tentou nova queda porque não queria ficar novamente encurralado na toca do leão. Isso levou Charles a buscar a presa, levantá-la do chão, jogá-la à força em sua cova e pegar suas costas. Naquela posição, o mata-leão do Leão Embaçado é indefensável. A 2min48s do segundo round, a presa estava abatida e Charles saltava a grade do octógono para abraçar sua família.

Após o anúncio oficial da vitória, consagrado diante de seu reino, Charles ergueu sua cria – o filho Dominick – e apresentou o herdeiro para toda a arena. Exatamente como Mufasa no início do filme, e Simba depois.

Todos se curvaram em merecido reconhecimento. Na selva brasileira, o Leão Embaçado reina novamente. É o ciclo sem fim do Jiu-Jitsu.
