A conferir.

This was Pedro’s third title in a row, who had achieved gold medals at Austin Open, double gold at Memphis Open, and now at Dallas Open, all the tournaments are from IBJJF.

” I’m feeling more confident at every competition, I know that all my dedication and my mental game has made the difference in the fights. I was able to perform the way I like, always moving forward!”, tells Pedro.

On his way as a black belt, Pedro holds some titles of Pan Ams and NoGi Brazilian Nationals. Now, the athlete aims at the NoGi Worlds’ gold medal and a place at ADCC 2024.

“I want to make my career at grappling, I see that the opportunity to get well paid is way bigger than at Jiu-Jitsu gi. Nowadays, my competition training is focused on grappling competitions. I will keep working in order to make the opportunities of superfights happen. At Who’s Number One or One Championship, I’m ready to win and give you guys entertainment!”, says Pedro
The post Pedro Rocha gets his 4th gold medal in a row at IBJJF first appeared on Graciemag.

Pedro Rocha started his competition season at IBJJF with two gold medals. First, he got the gold medal at Austin Open in the heavyweight and open class, after closing out with his brother João Gabriel. One week later, he got the gold again at Oklahoma City Open.

A black belt since 2019, Pedro wants to gain experience in smaller tournaments in order to shine at bigger tournaments like No- Gi Worlds, No-Gi Pans and ADCC trials.

Pedro analyzes his performance, talks about where he needs to get better at in order to get to the highest level on his way of fighting.

” I did a great job, but I’m too far from my 100%. I’ve been training super hard for a long time, I didn’t take a break during Christmas and New Year. I want to keep myself more active, empower my strong weapons and make no mistakes. I want to get the gold at ADCC trials. I wake up and I live with this dream ”

Pedro, who has been training wrestling since he was young, believes that his dedication to this sport sets him apart from other athletes.

“I’ve been training grappling since I was very young, wrestling is a very strong weapon in grappling. My training has always been very demanding, hard and complicated, that’s why it makes a difference in the elite. I help MMA athletes like José Aldo, for example, in some of his fights. This experience adds a lot for me to stand out!”, comments Pedro.

João Gabriel’s younger brother, Pedro told us about the experience of fighting and winning alongside him. João and Pedro closed out the absolute at the Austin Open a few weeks ago.

“It was really cool, it’s always been good to fight alongside my brother, we’ve been doing that since we were kids. It’s even better to win together. He’ll be back 100% this year”, he says.

With the event in mind, today Graciemag brings you an option to defend against and take advantage of a single-leg attack.

The instructor is Pedro Rocha, a wrestling champion from Soul Fighters. Experienced in no-gi positions, Pedro recruited his buddy Domenico Novello to show a counter-attack against the takedown. First, Pedro indicates where the grips must be made in this no-gi scenario, to then stress the advance of the leg that isn’t under attack in order to improve the spin that ends with him on top.

Vice-champion of the world and black belt Brazilian Champion, João Gabriel Rocha, 21, has quite the training partner to help sharpen takedowns – and right at home! His brother Pedro Rocha, 19, is also a fighter and a title collector – except his endeavors take place in wrestling, where he is a five-time Brazilian champ.

According to his their biggest supporter, Adilson Rocha, the recipe for success is simple and was given since very early on, like the devoted dad said recently on SporTV’s Sensei SporTV show:

“I told them: you have to practice for eight hours a day, with a two-hour lunch break. You don’t have an office job but you’re going to be there every day just as if you did, and the first commandment is discipline.”

Pedro, who started out in Jiu-Jitsu with his brother, tells of how he ended up taking a different path.

“My biggest dream was never to be a black-belt world champion as a kid. I always admired judo more, for being an Olympic sport, and I dreamed of going to the Olympics. Today I dream of fighting in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. I go to sleep and I wake up thinking of that,” he says.

Of course the brothers exchange tips to improve as much as possible.

“Since in judo the takedown is worth two points, Pedro gives me great pointers about wrestling. Both judo and wrestling help me in competition. If I get the takedown, I’m already ahead and the other guy has to try to catch up,” recalls the Soul Fighters black-belt. “And it’s also good for him, since wrestling is played standing for 90 percent of the time, but there is some ground play, and that’s where the Jiu-Jitsu way of moving one’s hips can make a difference.”
The post João Gabriel’s younger brother also looking for pro fighting success first appeared on Graciemag.
