Yuri Simões foi um dos protagonistas do Metamoris 5, realizado no último sábado, 22 de novembro, na Califórnia.

A batalha de kimono entre Yuri e Keenan levantou a plateia, e as chances de finalizações ocorreram para ambos os lados.

Nesta entrevista exclusiva para GRACIEMAG, Yuri fala da experiência e das lições de Jiu-Jitsu que absorveu no combate contra o rival americano. Aprenda a seguir:

GRACIEMAG: Como foi a experiência de lutar 20 minutos sem pontos, visando somente a finalização?

YURI SIMÕES: Foi diferente, nunca havia lutado sob essa regra. Muitas vezes até treino sem tempo ou faço treinos mais longos, mas não tinha competido assim ainda. Foi uma grande experiência. Dei o melhor de mim, o que é sempre o mais importante numa luta, independente do resultado.

Seu oponente seria o Lovato, que em cima da hora não pôde lutar. Isso mexeu com sua tática e preparação?

Em termos de preparação, a intensidade e os horários dos treinos continuaram idênticos. Mas a estratégia mudou totalmente, pois um tem o jogo bem diferente do outro, então o caminho para a finalização deveria ser diferente. O Lovato é mais previsível, apesar de mais forte e experiente. Já o Keenan é flexível, mais versátil e um pouco mais imprevisível! No fim das contas, eu estava preparado para ser ofensivo e efetivo em todas as possíveis situações contra quem fosse.

Você teve bons momentos na luta, principalmente o leglock. O que faltou para a finalização?

Ali no leglock, acho que faltou acreditar mais. Por ele ser flexível não botei tanta fé que aquele tipo de chave fosse funcionar, pequei nisso! Só percebi que estava justa quando estiquei o joelho dele e senti dois estalos! Vi então o Keenan se desesperar, mas ele conseguiu uma brechinha para puxar a perna e sair. Foi guerreiro em não bater, pois a posição estava bem justa. No fim da luta, ainda acabei com a chave de panturrilha encaixada, e a regra do Metamoris dizia: se o tempo acabar durante um golpe de finalização, a luta deveria continuar. Só depois do evento o juiz veio falar comigo, reconheceu a regra e se desculpou.

Menos de um mês antes, vocês se enfrentaram na final do Mundial Sem Kimono, quando você ganhou. Aquela luta ajudou de alguma forma no Metamoris?

Acredito que cada luta é uma luta, apesar daquela vitória sobre ele. Sei que ele é um dos tops no momento, e que precisava treinar em dobro para finalizar. Foi empate, mas estou feliz que meu Jiu-Jitsu não só foi ofensivo, como também consegui escapar de algumas situações perigosas.

Repórter de GRACIEMAG, Ivan Trindade bateu um papo exclusivo com Renzo sobre Sakuraba, Jiu-Jitsu e os novos planos da sua carreira.

“Já que fui obrigado a entrar em forma, quero seguir saindo no pau. Depois da luta no Metamoris, vou tentar fazer pelo menos duas lutas no UFC. Vou conversar com eles e me jogar na categoria até 70kg, para trocar farpas com essa garotada nova. Vamos testar essa arte maravilhosa que eu aprendi com meus avós e meus pais”, disse um Renzo inspirado e inspirador.

Com Kevin Casey contundido, a organização do Metamoris se empenhou para trazer um adversário de nível para encarar Vinny “Pezão” Magalhães neste sábado, 22 de novembro, pela quinta edição do Metamoris na Califórnia.

Após a criação de uma enquete nas páginas do Metamoris, o oponente de Vinny será um atleta lapidado por Marcelinho Garcia, em Nova York: Matheus Diniz. O jovem faixa-marrom têm dois títulos mundiais de Jiu-Jitsu sem kimono (2013/2014) pela IBJJF. O confere será de 20 minutos, sem pontos e vantagens. Vence quem finalizar.

No próximo dia 22 de novembro, dois astros de modalidades diferentes vão duelar sem kimono, num disputa de 20 minutos, sem pontos e sem vantagens.

No Metamoris 5, em Long Beach, o americano Jonathan Torres vai representar a bandeira do Jiu-Jitsu contra o perigoso Rory MacDonald, astro do UFC que tem em sua carreira seis vitórias por finalização.

Em conversa com GRACIEMAG, o faixa-preta da Atos avaliou os perigos Rory pode oferecer na disputa sem o tradicional paletó.

“Acho que o maior perigo que Rory traz é a vantagem do seu tamanho. Ele deve pesar uns nove quilos a mais que eu. Rory será um adversário muito duro, é um atleta de alto nível e é um faixa-preta também. Estou me sentindo muito bem e um pouco ansioso; eu só quero lutar logo”, diz JT.

Rory é famoso por sua frieza, mas isso não abala JT, que pretende jogar em todas as áreas.

“Ele é frio e imprevisível, mas eu também posso ser imprevisível para desestabilizá-lo. Eu estou olhando para essa luta como se fosse qualquer outra. Meu camp tem sido muito duro, treinei forte em todas as posições, então estarei buscando a finalização tanto por cima quanto por baixo”, conta.

O americano Rafael Lovato sofreu uma lesão durante os treinos de Jiu-Jitsu e está fora da disputa contra Yuri Simões, pelo Metamoris 5. O evento é no dia 22 de novembro, em Long Beach, na Califórnia.

Yuri agora vai enfrentar Keenan Cornelius em combate de 20 minutos, sem pontos e sem vantagens, onde vence quem finalizar.
Em sua rede social, Yuri comentou sobre o duelo – uma revanche da final do Mundial Sem Kimono de 2014:

“Sábado acordei meio desapontado, não porque o Lovato se machucou, pois lesões acontecem. Mas eu queria mostrar o meu estilo de luta para todos. Já não estou mais bolado”, escreveu. “Não sei qual foi a última vez em que o Keenan bateu, mas farei o meu melhor nessa luta. A única coisa que sei é: quem assistir a esta luta não vai esquecer”.

Age means nothing to Renzo Gracie. “If you have 20 years old but stops training Jiu-Jitsu, it doesn’t work for you. However, if you train consistently you can go over 40 and still be in the best shape of your life, “says the Rio de Janeiro teacher living in New York.

At 47, the black belt has two up coming fights scheduled, one against Kazushi Sakuraba, 46, on Metamoris 5 and another vs. Matt Hughes, 40, in the 2015 ADCC. Nevertheless, he wants more: between Saku and Hughes, Renzo still wants to go at it twice in the UFC to prove his theory that he is at his technical peak.

While granting the interview to GRACIEMAG, and parked inside his car, Renzo saw a flustered American driver hit the back of his car. The Gracie was not irritated, nor went out to verify the damage; instead he let the guy pass by, apologize and leave. Should all this tranquility be a fruit of joy over his rematch with Sakuraba at Metamoris 5 in Long Beach? Find out here:

GRACIEMAG: Many fans see your No-Gi match at Metamoris 5, on November 22, as the perfect outcome of rivalry between Sakuraba and the Gracies. However, few people remember that the Japanese lost in 2010 to Ralek Gracie, who is the event organizer. For you, what is at stake?

Renzo Gracie: Yes, thanks to Ralek the family is ahead now. What I will achieve with this fight is a chance to get my hands on him again. As a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, I will be able to check if I have improved from that time forward, and see if he also has improved since then. Meeting again with a guy with whom you have fought and lost is a golden chance for you to assess this development. Thus, I could not say no when Ralek called offering me the fight. I signed the contract without even reading it.

Was it already the initial idea of the Metamoris organization to have you against Sakuraba?

Once Ralek began negotiating with Sakuraba, he called me. I embraced the idea and did not drop it anymore; I started training in the same day since I was busy as hell and was not training hard. So it was like that; Sakuraba has signed knowing he was fighting me. It will be a pleasure; I cannot wait.

What was the biggest lesson learned from that defeat at Pride 10 in 2000? Did you study the Kimura escape from every angle?

Yes, after that day I do not get caught anymore; I escape easily today. At the time I was already cautious; what I tried to do was to apply a takedown and fall on top of him. However, Saku hit the string and set up the submission, and in the process my arm was broken. People still asks if that broken arm causes me grief, anger or regret until now. Look, the reality is: that poor outcome has brought me great pride, and no grief. After all, I lost to another Jiu-Jitsu fighter: with that victory Sakuraba had proof that our family took Jiu-Jitsu back to Japan. Like grateful children that we are, we took the gentle art back to its crib so it doesn’t get lost.

You usually teach that a great fighter needs someone he respects coaching his workouts, waking up the guy early, requiring a little more of each session. Who will push you? And who will be your sparring partners in NY?

Who usually plays this role is Ricardo Almeida, always pushing me and requiring more work done. But I’ve also started push myself: I woke up early today and ran 46 minutes in the morning. My body is starting to react. I’m excited because I have tough people surrounding me; the team is sharp. From the family, Neiman is one of them, which is in excellent shape and already shines in MMA. Then, there is Gregor, Igor, and Rolles who has a MMA fight scheduled in Poland. The training will be catching fire until November.

At 47, you’re living in a wonderful phase where you can train and exchange knowledge with your son, Ruran of 19. Will he pursue a career?

Not only him, but also there is a new generation coming up that will not be easy. For an example, yesterday I found myself almost an hour with Daniel Ignacio, my 15 years old godson. He is already a wrestling champion here in the USA, and has my size! The tough guy was trying to submit me during the entire training. Now, he wants to wear the kimono and start winning in Jiu-Jitsu as well. Ruran is evolving too; it is a pleasure to see how much he still has to improve throughout his career. I am increasingly a fan of his. He had been sick for a while, but it was just one more struggle in our lives. Everything in life is a fight, and all was well in the end. We are closer after this fight together.

You face Sakuraba in November; and Matt Hughes in September 2015, at the ADCC in Manaus. Who do you want to face in the meantime to keep you in shape? You did not give up the UFC yet.

I should have one or two bouts around that time. I want to go at it again. And, against any opponent; after all I was born with this defect. Choose an opponent has never been my style. I just hope it’s a tough guy, the best we have, and a champion. But it is up to the promoters to pick who will face me. I’ll be ready to fight and even for free. Dana White said he would give me a blank check to stay home and don’t fight. But I said I would go there for free, we’re in this tug of war.

Are you preparing something special to surprise Sakuraba?

We train everything here, especially chokes and armbars. The guillotine and kimura are up to date. Yet, the reality is that I want to impose my game and see if he can follow.

Is there something missing in your career, Renzo? Fighting someone?

I have yet a lot to do for the love of Jiu-Jitsu. I want to try to take the sport to the TV here in the USA, for example; that is a next step. In the ring, I just have to celebrate. Being born in 1967 I had the glory of being able to exchange sweat and knowledge with four generations of my family. I am thankful for having shared so many amazing moments with the new and old generations of fighters. Not missed anyone. When did Conde Koma die? Was in 1941? Just missed him then, for a few years I did not take a plane to Para and went there to train with this Japanese.

Aos 47 anos, o faixa-preta tem duas lutas marcadas, contra Kazushi Sakuraba, de 46 anos, e Matt Hughes, 40, no ADCC 2015. Mas ele quer mais: entre Sak e Hughes, Renzo pretende “sair na porrada” duas vezes pelo UFC, para comprovar sua teoria de que está no seu apogeu técnico.

Enquanto concedia entrevista a GRACIEMAG, parado dentro do seu carro, Renzo viu um afobado motorista americano bater na traseira do seu carro. O Gracie nem se irritou e tampouco saiu para ver o estrago: deixou o cara passar se desculpando e ir embora. Será toda essa tranquilidade fruto da alegria de reencontrar Sakuraba, no Metamoris 5, em Long Beach? Confira o bate-papo:

GRACIEMAG: Muitos fãs veem esta sua luta de Jiu-Jitsu sem kimono no Metamoris, no dia 22 de novembro, como o desfecho perfeito da rivalidade entre Sak e os Gracie. Poucos no entanto lembram que o japonês perdeu em 2010, justamente para o Ralek, o organizador do evento. Para você, o que está em jogo?

RENZO GRACIE: É verdade, graças ao Ralek hoje a família está na frente. O que vou ter a ganhar com essa luta é a chance de botar a mão nele de novo. Como praticante de Jiu-Jitsu, vou poder conferir se eu melhorei daquele tempo para cá, e ver se ele também melhorou de lá para cá. Reencontrar um cara com quem você já lutou e perdeu é uma chance de ouro para você aferir esse desenvolvimento. Por isso mesmo que eu não podia dizer não quando o Ralek me ligou oferecendo a luta. Assinei o contrato sem nem ler.

A ideia inicial do povo do Metamoris já era ver você contra o Saku?

Assim que o Ralek começou a negociar com o Sakuraba ele já me ligou. Abracei a ideia e não larguei mais, no mesmo dia eu já comecei a treinar, pois vinha ocupado para caramba e não estava treinando duro. Mas foi isso mesmo, o Sakuraba já assinou sabendo que era comigo. Vai ser um prazer, eu não vejo a hora.

Qual foi a maior lição aprendida com aquela derrota no Pride 10, em 200o? Estudou a saída da chave kimura de todos os ângulos?

Sim, depois daquele dia não caio mais, hoje eu saio fácil. Na época eu já estava ligado, o que eu procurei fazer foi tentar aplicar uma queda para cair por cima dele. Mas o Sak bateu na corda e o golpe ajustou, e naquele processo o braço acabou quebrado. O pessoal vive me perguntando se aquele braço quebrado me causa mágoa, raiva ou arrependimento até hoje. Olha, na realidade aquele mau resultado me trouxe foi um grande orgulho, e nenhuma mágoa. Afinal, eu perdi para outro lutador de Jiu-Jitsu: naquela vitória do Sakuraba tivemos a prova de que nossa família levou o Jiu-Jitsu de volta ao Japão. Como filhos gratos que somos, levamos a arte suave de volta ao seu berço para que não se perdesse.

Você costuma ensinar que um grande lutador precisa de alguém que ele respeita puxando o ritmo dos treinos, acordando o cara cedo, exigindo um pouco mais a cada sessão. Quem vai puxar seu treino? E quem serão seus sparrings em NY?

Normalmente quem tem esse papel é o Ricardo Cachorrão, que marca em cima e exige sempre mais de mim. Mas eu já comecei a puxar também, hoje acordei cedo e corri 46 minutos de manhã. Meu corpo já está começando a reagir. Estou empolgado porque estou com muita gente dura me cercando, o time está de primeira. Da família, o Neiman é um deles, ele que está numa forma excelente e já brilhando no MMA. Tem o Gregor, o Igor, o Rolles que está com luta de MMA marcada na Polônia… O treino vai pegar fogo até novembro.

Aos 47 anos, você está vivendo aquela fase maravilhosa de treinar e trocar golpes com seu filho, Ruran, de 19. Ele vai seguir a carreira?

Não só ele, mas tem uma nova geração surgindo que não vai ser brincadeira. Ontem para você ver, eu  me peguei quase uma hora com o Daniel Ignácio, meu afilhado de 15 anos. Ele já é campeão de wrestling aqui nos EUA, e tem o meu tamanho! Um casca-grossa, ficou tentando me pegar o treino todo. Agora ele quer vestir o kimono e começar a vencer no Jiu-Jitsu também. O Ruran está evoluindo muito, é um prazer ver o quanto ele ainda tem a melhorar ao longo de sua trajetória. Sou cada vez mais fã dele. Ele andou doente, mas foi só mais uma lutinha na nossa vida. Tudo na vida é uma briga, e ficou tudo bem. Estamos mais próximos depois dessa luta juntos.

Você enfrenta o Sakuraba em novembro; e o Matt Hughes em setembro de 2015, no ADCC Manaus. Quem você quer enfrentar nesse meio tempo para manter a forma? Você não desistiu do UFC ainda.

Tem de ter um ou dois aí nesse intervalo. Quero sair na porrada novamente. E contra qualquer adversário, afinal eu nasci com esse defeito. Escolher oponente nunca foi do meu feitio. Só espero que seja um cara duro, o melhor que tiver, um campeão. Mas cabe aos promotores escolher com quem o pau vai jambrar. Vou estar pronto e luto até de graça. O Dana White disse que me daria um cheque em branco para eu ficar em casa e não lutar. Mas eu disse que eu entro lá de graça, estamos nesse cabo de guerra.

Anda treinando algo especial para surpreender Sakuraba?

A gente treina tudo aqui, é muito estrangulamento e chave de braço. A guilhotina e a kimura estão em dia. Mas a real é que quero soltar meu jogo e ver se ele me acompanha no giro.

Falta fazer algo na carreira, Renzo? Lutar com alguém?

Tenho muito a fazer ainda, pelo amor ao Jiu-Jitsu. Quero tentar levar o esporte para a TV aqui nos EUA, por exemplo, é um próximo passo. Nos ringues, só tenho a festejar. Por ter nascido em 1967, tive a glória de poder trocar suor e conhecimento com quatro gerações da minha família. Sou agradecido por ter dividido tantos momentos incríveis com as novas e as antigas gerações de lutadores. Não faltou ninguém. O Conde Koma morreu quando mesmo? Em 1941? Faltou ele então, por poucos anos eu não peguei um avião até o Pará e fui lá dar um treino com esse japonês.

The Japanese fighter, Kazushi Sakuraba has shone in a bout against Renzo Gracie on August 27, 2000, in front of his home crowd. The wrestling idol applied his favorite technique and dislocated the Brazilian’s arm almost ten minutes into the second round in the main event of the luxurious Pride FC number 10. The card for this event still featured Ryan Gracie, Mark Kerr, Ken Shamrock, Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva.

Fourteen years later, Renzo will have twenty minutes to avenge the defeat. The Gracie and his tormentor will meet again for a duel without the gi and no points at Metamoris 5, on November 22^nd.

The world of MMA and Jiu-Jitsu does not speak of anything else, so GRACIEMAG heard the analysis of some experts about the rematch of the year. Who wins, Renzo or Saku?

Fabio Gurgel, Alliance world champion: “I always believe in Renzo’s Jiu-Jitsu, but the result of a fight like this is very difficult to predict. For me this is the best match ever on Metamoris. And, it is this element of unpredictability that makes this fight so good. ”

Marcio Feitosa, triple world champion by Gracie Barra: “Great match! This time Renzo will squeeze Sakuraba’s neck in a good old guillotine. ”

Mauro Ellovitch, MMA commentator GRACIEMAG: “The Metamoris is surpassing. The two fighters have stopped for a while, but I especially love these matches between MMA veterans. I prefer Renzo in No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, but I’d bet in a draw since points do not count. ”

Koichi Kawasaki, former Pride matchmaker: “Renzo defeats Sakuraba this time, 100% sure. I do not know exactly how he is going to finish, but it doesn’t matter. ”

Quatorze anos depois de deslocar o braço de Renzo Gracie, em combate eletrizante no Pride 2000, o caçador Kazushi Sakuraba está de volta à selva e quer mais uma vitória para a coleção.

Para Renzo, aos 47 anos, será a chance de mostrar que foi apenas um deslize, e que sua técnica é superior a do japonês. A luta está confirmada para o Metamoris 5, em Long Beach, Califórnia, no dia 22 de novembro.

“Naquele dia eu desapontei o Jiu-Jitsu”, reflete Renzo, feliz pela revanche, no vídeo oficial do torneio de lutas casadas.

Em outra luta que promete, o astro do UFC Rory MacDonald aceitou medir forças com a fera do Jiu-Jitsu americano Jonathan Torres, o JT.
