A hora da compra do primeiro kimono gera muitas dúvidas não apenas para os praticantes de Jiu-Jitsu, como para atleta de todas as outras artes marciais. Isso porque a escolha errada do traje pode causar transtornos posteriores, durante a utilização.

Problemas que podem variar desde o tamanho incorreto, desgaste precoce ou modelo inadequado à atividade escolhida. Para ajudar os atletas que estão iniciando no Jiu-Jitsu, e judô, karatê etc, Miguel Malak, presidente da Torah Kimonos, ensina algumas dicas importantes para não se cometer erros na escolha do uniforme de luta.

1. Kimono de Jiu-Jitsu é para o Jiu-Jitsu! Não improvise

“A primeira coisa que precisa ser lembrada é que o kimono atende a sua modalidade específica de acordo com as regras de cada esporte (Jiu-Jitsu, judô, karatê etc). Assim, opte por um que seja compatível com a sua prática”, diz Miguel.

2. O tamanho certo do kimono

“Procure um tamanho que se adequa perfeitamente à sua altura e proporções volumétricas. Kimonos pequenos ou grandes demais vão prejudicar o seu desempenho”, ensina. Veja a sugestão de tamanho, baseado em idade e altura:

M00: até 3 anos
M0: até 5 anos
M1: até 7 anos
M2: até 9 anos
M3: até 11 anos
JR: até 13 anos

A1: até 1,70m
A2: até 1,80m
A3: até 1,90m
A4: até 2,0m
A5: acima de 2m

3. O tecido adequado

“Existem kimonos de diferentes tecidos e, desse modo, a sua escolha em cada modalidade garante a maior ou menor durabilidade. Os confeccionados com 100% de algodão são mais resistentes e não alérgicos. Kimonos fabricados com tecidos não tingidos (ou seja, aqueles do tipo cru) sofrem encolhimento prematuro e acentuado por não terem sido submetidos a nenhum processo químico”, ensina o fabricante.

4. Kimonos reforçados no lugar certo

“Algumas modalidades necessitam de reforços estratégicos em locais de maior desgaste (peito, costas, axilas, joelhos, aberturas laterais etc). A gola deve proporcionar resistência e durabilidade, porém também deve oferecer conforto ao atleta. As calças necessitam de aberturas suficientes para proporcionar o máximo de mobilidade. As linhas utilizadas devem ser grossas e compatíveis com a gramatura do tecido, porém não interferem na resistência do mesmo”, reforça ele.

5. Faixas e acabamentos no kimono

“As faixas infantis não devem ser muito grossas, pois o atleta não terá força suficiente para apertar o nó”, lembra Miguel. “Não esqueça que etiquetas, bordados e impressões em silk proporcionam beleza e acabamento ao produto, mas devem ser produzidas e localizadas conforme a regra de cada modalidade esportiva.”

Marcus Buchecha is out of combat for the rest of the 2015 season.

The three-time black belt open class champion will go under surgery on his left knee for a damaged ligament.

Buchecha didn’t disclose which knee ligament suffered the injury.

He suffered the injury at the absolute quarterfinals match, when Ricardo Evangelista succeeded in a sweep attempt that ended twisting Buchecha’s knee.

Despite not being sure how long the recovery process will take, Buchecha knows he won’t be able to compete at the 2015 ADCC, next August, in Brazil.

The Checkmat superstar posted on his Facebook page about the difficult moment he’s going through:

“Moments like these  are the responsible to make me do what I do. Victories and defeats is part of the career of any athlete, but something that I was’t expecting in the last tournament was the injury. I was really positive but unfortunately I will need a surgery in my knee and I will stay away from the competition for a couple months. I believe in life everything has a purpose and I will learn the lesson about that and I will have some time to think about in a lot of things and know myself better. But I’m sure it will make me come back stronger and more motivated than ever. I had opportunity to talk with a lot of athletes that had surgeries and the came back much better after the surgery and show the real significate of the word Overcoming. I just would like to say thanks to all my sponsor who are with me in all the moments, good or bad Hayabusa Fightwear MusclePharm Brasil @FightersMarket and Jiu Jitsu World League. And thank you to all who send me positive messages and thoughts. it gives me much more motivation and strength to come back to the mats and Live Moments like this one the picture again.”

Bernardo Faria finally made it to the top of the competition food chain with the black belt open class gold medal at the 2015 Worlds. Less than two weeks after the awesome performance in Long Beach, Faria talked to GRACIEMAG’s Vitor Freitas about what happened in the pyramid.

Bernardo looked back on his campaign of six matches and five submissions to tell us what was the most difficult moment. “The only match I did not win was the superheavy division final against João Gabriel Rocha, which I won 8-2. I had a lot of pressure on me at that match, once it could ruin my campaign if I’d lost it. It would be very frustrating to win weight and open class at the Pan and then win the absolute at the Worlds but lose in the weight division. João is a very tough man who last year beat a much tougher opponent than me, Rodolfo or Buchecha, which is cancer. He is a champion and I respect him a lot.”

The match against Rocha ended with the two fighters exchanging foot locks, but Bernardo seemed unbothered by it. “I have a good tolerance to attacks on my feet. I wouldn’t say I never tap to foot locks, because everyone has a breaking point and it can even come to what happened to Luiz Panza, who suffered a shin fracture at the 2015 WPJJC. João had it right, but it was the end of the match and I felt I could resist for a bit. It was hurting, but not to the point of snapping.”

Once again, Faria was able to pass Leandro Lo’s guard and tap the dangerous opponent with an armlock. He talks about the open class semifinal. “I know Lo very well and I am familiar with his qualities, which are his stamina and rhythm. As I am also very fit, I don’t usually get tired during the match. As I’m heavier than him, I try to keep the pressure on by being on top attacking always. Sometimes I can’t believe I’m able to fight him in such a efficient way.”

One of Bernardo’s most dangerous weapons is the leg lock he uses when he is passing the opponent’s guard. He explained the secret of this stealth finish. “I do that position since 2009 and I learned it from Fabio Gurgel. I have been training it a lot at no-gi sessions, which makes it much more difficult. So when I have the gi to help me, it’s easier to do it. The secret is to adjust it well so the opponent has no way to defend it even if he knows it’s coming.”

Finally, Faria said if anything will change now that he is a black belt open class champion: “Nothing changes! I am healthy and motivated. My daily routine is very busy, but I am able to balance it between teaching classes, training and other business ventures.”

Rafael worked hard for the choke 

Rafael Mendes had a whole week to think about what he did at the 2015 Worlds. Now the only five-time champion at the featherweight division, leaving Royler Gracie and Rubens Cobrinha behind with four titles a piece, the Mendes is still hungry for more. He talked with GRACIEMAG’s Vitor Freitas about it: “It’s not my time to say enough yet. I know that’s my natural path and that it’s going to happen someday, but I still have goals to achieve as a competitor.”

Looking back at the most important moment of his campaign at the Worlds, Rafa reveals what went missing for the choke from the back on Cobrinha to happen: “Maybe I didn’t pace myself enough and ended losing the position. Each year that goes by I feel my Jiu-Jitsu getting more and more efficient. I feel stronger, faster and with a more accurate technique. At the 2015 Worlds I played on top the whole time and passed everyone’s guard. Against Cobrinha, I attacked the whole time until I got to the back.”

Off the mats, Rafael’s life is also very much on the right tracks. “I’m so happy about how my life is shaping up to be. I’m 25 years old and I have five black belt world titles, my academy is getting the recognition it deserves and my second son is about to be born. I believe God has a purpose for all of us. We need to be a good influence on people’s lives and I try my best to be a good example for people around me.”

The 20th edition of the most prestigious competition of the season was thrilling as always and full of surprising moments.

Alliance’s Bernardo Faria didn’t miss his greatest chance so far of making into the select club of black belt open class champions.

With a near-perfect campaign, Faria finished five out his six matches during the weekend at the superheavy and the open class divisions.

Adding to his competence and dedication, Faria was also lucky when Marcus Buchecha and Alex Trans got hurt and could not get in his way to double gold glory.

Faria is now the 11th men to be crowned black belt open class champion at the Worlds.

In the female division, Dominyka Obelenyte wrote her name in history with a lot of pressure on the top to also make it to double gold.

A pupil of Marcelo Garcia’s, Dominyka beat Monique Elias 6-2 in the open class final and choked Vanessa Oliveira for the heavyweight gold medal.

Obelenyte is only the second non-Brazilian to make it to the top of the podium at the black belt open class division at the Worlds.

Alliance had a perfect weekend taking home both the male and female adult teams trophies.

The team under Master Romero Jacaré now has 10 titles in the male division and eight in the female division.

Here are the other champions in the black belt division.

Female

With a last-second sweep attempt, Rikako Yuasa beat Gezary Matuda for the lightfeather title. She’s only the 2nd Japanese competitor to win at the black belt in Worlds history .

With a choke from the back on Michelle Nicolini, Mackenzie Dern won the featherweight division. With that, Dern is now world champion in all belts since the blue belt.

With a leglock, Bia Mesquita beat Fabiana Borges for the lightweight title.

Luiza Monteiro beat Luanna Alzuguir by referees decision after a 2-2 tie and is now the middleweight champion.

Ana Laura Cordeiro is the medium-heavyweight world champion after a 4-0 win over Andressa Correa.

Fernanda Mazzelli sailed through the super-heavyweight final and outscored Alison Tremblay 9-0 for the world title.

Male

Bruno Malfacine is now seven times world champion after he beat João Miyao 2-1 on advantages at the roosterweight final. Besides Malfa, only Roger Gracie has seven titles on weight divisions at the Worlds as a black belt.

Paulo Miyao choked Daniel Beleza from the back to win the light-feather world title.

Rafael Mendes is the first featherweight with five world titles as a black belt. He took Cobrinha’s back and swept to win 6-0.

Michael Langhi closed out the lightweight with Lucas Lepri to win his third world title.

With a 8-4 score, Cláudio Calasans Jr. won his first world title as a black belt after defeating Vitor Oliveira in the middleweight final.

Leandro Lo reached his fourth title in the third different weight division after the 7-0 win over Tarsis Humphreys to conquer the medium-heavyweight title.

Xande Ribeiro reached his 7th world title as a black belt after he beat Lucas Leite 4-2 in the heavyweight final.

Bernardo Faria beat João Gabriel Rocha 8-2 at the superheavy final.

Gabriel Lucas outscored Ricardo Evangelista 3-2 on advantages to win the ultra-heavy division.

The first defining moment in the male bracket was the quarterfinals match between Marcus Buchecha and Ricardo Evangelista.

Winning 4-2 but behind in the advantages, Buchecha could not resist a last attempt of sweeping by Evangelista and ended up giving up the two points.

Worst than that, Buchecha twisted his left knee and is out of the 2015 Worlds.

Evangelista went on to the semifinal and gave way to Alex Trans, his workmate in Abu Dhabi.

Trans got to the semifinal after beating Gustavo Elias 6-0 and then outscoring Murilo Santana 2-0.

In the quarterfinals, Trans caught Abraham Marte on a leglock to win.

On the other side of the bracket, Bernardo Faria finished all his opponents.

First he choked Roberto Alencar from the back and then he caught Erberth Santos on a leg lock.

Faria’s opponent in the semifinal was Leandro Lo, who also had a great run.

Lo debuted with a 9-4 win over Tarcisio Jardim and then waged a all-out war against Keenan Cornelius.

He won 8-4 after defending a tight double attack by Keenan.

In the semifinal, Bernardo played on top to pass the guard and finish on the armlock.

In the fimale division, the first semifinal was between Bia Mesquita and Monique Elias.

Monique swept in the beginning and kept her position until the end to win 2-0.

On the other semifinal, Dominyka Obelenyte nedded only one advantage to beat Mackenzie Dern.

The open class finals take place this Sunday.

The brown belt also played out this Saturday, crowning all its champions from roosterweight to open class.

In the male division, Brazilian expat training under Team Lloyd Irvin Mahamed Aly imposed his pressure game to win the open class.

The final was against Alliance’s Guilherme Santos and ended with a foot lock after some of the best action of the day.

In the female division, Amanda Santana celebrated the gold medal after Maria Malyjasiak was DQed for knee reaping.

In the teams competition, Alliance extended its lead in the male division and reached 74pts while Cicero Costha comes second with 49 and Gracie Barra appears in third place with 40pts.

The heavyweight caught Rafael de Lima in his trademark triangle choke to capture the only medal he didn’t have as a purple belt.

Curiously enough, last year, Meregali lost the open class final to Edwin Najmi when he was caught in a flying triangle.

With a choke from side control, Tayane Porfirio beat Yacinta Nguyen-Huu to become female purple belt open class champion.

With that, she completes total domination of the division with double gold in 2015 at Worlds, Brazilian Nationals, Pan, European and WPJJC.

In the female blue belt open class division, Gabrielle Lima was the standout.

With a last minute near sweep on Michelle Welti, Gabi secured her a 1-0 win on advantages.

In the teams competition, Alliance is leading the male adult division with 53pts after two days.

Atos JJ follows the leader with 35pts and PSLPB Cicero Costha appears in third with 28pts.

Day 3 starts at 9AM this Saturday and the black belt open class division kicks off at 10am.
