After a thirty-hour Jiu-Jitsu marathon, Bráulio Estima and his student Ebe Ghansah now have to wait for the red tape to get sorted out.

For Ebe to get Jiu-Jitsu into the world’s most famous record book, he had to endure a class lasting thirty hours and one minute last Sunday (ending Monday) in England.

“We’re confident the record will be announced by next Wednesday, they just need to check the videos we made. There were folks from the press and police officers there as witnesses, so it should all work out,” said the Gracie Barra brown belt, who through the marathon raised 1,250 pound sterling for a local hospital. The previous record was set with an aerobics class lasting 29 hours and one minute.

“They have to watch thirty hours of tape to make sure we followed the rules – we could only take one five-minute break every hour. After that, there’ll be no two ways about it: it will be the world record for endurance during an exercise class; we’re just waiting for them to confirm how Jiu-Jitsu always wins!” said a jubilant Ebe.

Now all that’s left to do for Bráulio Estima – who is in tip-top shape for the 2011 Worlds – is to sort out some red tape of his own in renewing his passport, to travel to California. “I’m waiting on a few details to get taken care of; if all that goes well I’ll buy the ticket,” said Carcará, who attended the marathon. “It was insane, there were guys passing out towards the end and everything.”

Após a maratona de 30h de Jiu-Jitsu, Bráulio Estima e seu aluno Ebe Ghansah agora só dependem de detalhes burocráticos.

Ebe, para levar o Jiu-Jitsu para o cultuado livro dos recordes, após a aula de 30 horas e um minuto que deu na Inglaterra, no domingo (terminando segunda).

“Estamos confiantes para o recorde ser homologado até a próxima quarta-feira, eles precisam apenas conferir os vídeos que fizemos. Tinha gente da imprensa e agentes da polícia testemunhando, então deve dar tudo certo”, conta o faixa-marrom da Gracie Barra, que durante a maratona arrecadou 1.250 libras para um hospital local. O recorde anterior era de 29h e um minuto, de uma aula de ginástica aérobica.

“Eles precisam assistir às 30 horas de vídeo, comprovar que seguimos as regras – só podia haver cinco minutos de intervalo a cada hora. Depois disso, não vai ter jeito. Será o recorde mundial de resistência durante uma aula de exercícios, só estamos esperando o sim deles para confirmar que o Jiu-Jitsu sempre vence!”, celebrou Ebe.

Já Braulio Estima, que está bem fisicamente para o Mundial 2011, só precisa acertar detalhes burocráticos para renovar o passaporte e partir com tudo para a Califórnia. “Estou esperando alguns detalhes, se der tudo certo já vou comprar a passagem”, disse o Carcará, que presenciou a maratona. “Foi insano, teve gente que desmaiou no fim e tudo”.

“A number of teammates supported me, and people even flew in from the USA, all to break this record, count as witnesses and to guarantee Jiu-Jitsu’s place in the Guinness World Record Book,” said Ebe, who even has a 2010 match against Rafael Mendes under his belt, during the inter-nation contest traditionally held at the European Open.

“Nesses 28 anos dando aulas, eu vi como as artes marciais constroem a autoconfiança, especialmente para jovens e crianças. Por isso escolhi a instuição Keech Hospice para receber o dinheiro doado para este evento”, disse o faixa-marrom da Gracie Barra.

“Muitos colegas de time me apoiaram, e veio gente até dos EUA, tudo para quebrarmos esse recorde, contarmos com testemunhas e garantirmos o Jiu-Jitsu no ‘Guinness World Record Book‘”, contou Ebe, que já lutou inclusive com Rafa Mendes em 2010, na disputa de países realizada tradicionalmente no Europeu.
