With less than a week to go before the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship’s debut, the organizers have once again joined hands with AJP, this time to gift fans with an entertaining Fight Week. As the ADXC1 gets ready to take over the Mubadala Arena next Friday, October 20th, Jiu-Jitsu aficionados will have plenty of chances to meet their favorite athletes throughout the week.

Starting on Tuesday, October 17th, the main fighters and coaches will take part in a Meet & Greet at the UAEJJ Fitness, where they’ll be available for photos, autographs, and maybe even a quick chat. After that, the athletes will warm up their bodies for the last time before the event, showing their best moves for the crowd at the open workout.

Moving on to Wednesday, October 18th, the main players of the ADXC1 will sit down for the press conference, where they’ll talk to journalists and fans about their preparations, what they expect from the tournament, and any other questions that come up. Reporters and Jiu-Jitsu connoisseurs will make their way to the Mubadala Arena, eager to hear what their favorite athletes have to say.

On October 19th, one day before the ADXC1 debut, the Mubadala Arena will be all geared up to pick up the pace ahead of the tournament, promoting many attractions at the ADXC Fan Zone. Later on, the stars of the show will face their very first challenge: beating the scales in the Ceremonial Weigh-Ins. Still on Thursday, the most dedicated Jiu-Jitsu athletes will have the chance to take part in a super seminar, led by Atos’ leader André Galvão, and Checkmat’s leader Léo Vieira.

All these attractions lead up to the main course on October 20th, at 8 p.m., as the ADXC1 completely takes over the Mubadala Arena and welcomes the stars of its debut. Luccas Lira, you are one of the featured from the new generation in the competitive Jiu-Jitsu either with or without the GI. What tips would you give to the GRACIEMAG readers that desire to call attention of the public in the big stages? 

I see many fighters fighting events and being champions but they don’t get recognized for it. That’s because they end up not fighting and giving priority to the right tournaments to compete. Any athlete that wants to get recognition have to search for the biggest federations of our sport. 

What were the key challenges that you had to win during your carrear in Jiu-Jitsu until today? 

Absolutely being far from family while traveling to compete and also dealing with some injuries that bothered me for a while but because of my strength condition and physiotherapy I was able to recover from it.

You enjoy more competing with or without the GI?

I prefer to compete without the GI. I feel that makes more my style of grappling. That was something very natural that I’ve always had. I always had great results at grappling and that made me enjoy more. But I love the GI as well.

Which one was your biggest win as a fighter and your toughest loss? 

Thank God I had great results during my carrear. I won IBJJF No-Gi Worlds weight and open weight, No-Gi Pans, South American. World Pro Abu Dhabi and recently a great performance at ADCC trials. All of these tournaments have a special taste for me because being an IBJJF World Champion is something for a few, winning World Pro Abu Dhabi gives you a great feeling because of the prize money and the ADCC trials will probably bring me the invitation to fight the biggest grappling event of all time in front of 13.000 people. The losses I believe all of them are inside me until today. They make me want to get better everyday so I rather not forget them.

Who’s your idol in your carrear? 

My professor and mentor Roberto Cyborg. He pushes me everyday to give my best, trusts me and know my potencial. He always helps me to take my professional decisions. I’m sure that together we will keep making a lot of success.

You will probably get the invite for the upcoming ADCC. Do you predict something special for your preparation to this event ? 

Yes. I’m living this expectation to be invited for the ADCC in September at Las Vegas. My preparation to this event in case I get the invite will be the best possible. I’ll give my best in my strength and conditioning and will train a lot with my teammates at Fight Sports Club Miami. We have great athletes that are already confirmed for ADCC and for sure it will be the best training room in the world and the result will be the best possible.

Is the fact that you are a brown belt and fight the ADCC against black belts in your favor?

In my head being a brown belt doesn’t change much. Besides my opponent I always fight moving forward and looking for the submission. If that makes a difference for my opponents I don’t know but my mind is always good and while I fight I just search my main goal that is to be victorious.

What are your goals for the future when you become a black belt?

My goals for the future are getting back to United States as a professional athlete and represent my team Fight Sports Club in the biggest Jiu-Jitsu and grappling events in the world. I aim to win Worlds weight and open weight at brown belt and win ADCC. After these events that will happen this year I want to get my black belt from my master and continue to build a great carrear being a black belt world champion and then move to MMA.

What motivational phrase do you like to repeat to yourself in difficult times?

Everything in life is phases. However they seems to take long everything passes.

Você está entre os destaques da nova geração do Jiu-Jitsu competitivo, tanto com kimono, como também sem kimono. Quais são as dicas que você pode dar aos leitores da GRACIEMAG que também almejam “sair do bolo” e chamar a atenção do público nas grandes arenas? 

Vejo muitos atletas lutando vários eventos e sendo campeões, porém, reparo que não saem do lugar. Isso acontece porque priorizam os campeonatos errados, creio. Qualquer atleta que quer se destacar deve se inscrever nas competições de maior prestígio da temporada. É assim que a fama de um verdadeiro campeão deve ser construída. 

Quais foram os principais desafios que você teve que vencer ao longo da sua carreira no Jiu-Jitsu até o momento? 

Com certeza o maior desafio foi ficar longe da família para viajar pra competir e também lidar com algumas lesões que me incomodaram por um tempo. Mas graças ao meu condicionamento físico e à fisioterapia consegui me recuperar bem. 

Você gosta mais de competir com ou sem kimono? 

Eu prefiro competir sem kimono, sinto que faz mais meu estilo de lutar. Isso foi algo natural que sempre tive, sempre me dei melhor sem kimono e isso me fez gostar mais. Mas também amo o kimono! 

Qual foi a sua grande vitória como lutador e qual foi a sua derrota mais dura? 

Graças a Deus tive ótimos resultados durante minha carreira. Já fui campeão mundial sem kimono peso e absoluto pela IBJJF, venci também no World Pro Abu Dhabi e recentemente tive uma excelente performance na seletiva do ADCC. Todos esses torneios têm um gosto especial, ser campeão mundial da IBJJF é pra poucos, ganhar World Pro traz uma sensação boa demais por conta da premiação em dólar e a seletiva do ADCC provavelmente vai me trazer o convite para o maior evento do planeta. Derrota acredito que todas, todas estão guardadas dentro de mim até hoje, elas fazem eu querer melhorar todo dia, então prefiro não esquecê-las. 

Quem é o seu grande ídolo na carreira, aquela pessoa que serve como diretriz nas suas grandes decisões? 

Meu professor e mentor Roberto Cyborg. Ele me incentiva todos os dias a sempre dar o meu melhor, ele confia em mim, sabe do meu potencial e sempre me ajuda nas minhas decisões profissionais. Tenho certeza que juntos vamos continuar fazendo muito sucesso. 

Você provavelmente vai ser convidado para disputar a próxima edição do ADCC. Prevê algo especial para a sua preparação para esse evento?

Sim, estou vivendo essa expectativa em ser convidado para o evento principal do ADCC em setembro, em Las Vegas. Minha preparação será a melhor possível, darei meu melhor na minha parte física e treinarei muito ao lado dos meus companheiros na Fight Sports Club Miami. Temos grandes atletas lá que já estão confirmados no ADCC, então com certeza será o melhor treino do mundo e o resultado será o melhor possível. 

O fato de você ainda ser faixa-marrom e disputar o ADCC contra faixas-pretas está a seu favor? Você acha que intimida os oponentes por conta disso? Entra como franco atirador? 

Na minha cabeça o fato de eu ser faixa-marrom não muda em nada. Independente do meu oponente e de sua faixa eu sempre entro no combate buscando lutar para a frente e finalizar. Se isso faz diferença para meus adversários, eu não sei, mas eu entro com a cabeça boa sempre apenas buscando meu objetivo que é sair vitorioso. 

Quais são as suas metas para o futuro, quando for faixa-preta? 

Minhas metas para o futuro são voltar aos Estados Unidos como atleta profissional e representar minha equipe Fight Sports Club nos maiores eventos de Jiu-Jitsu e de grappling do planeta. Pretendo ganhar o Mundial peso e absoluto na faixa-marrom e ganhar o ADCC. Após esses dois eventos que acontecem este ano, talvez eu conquiste a faixa-preta das mãos do meu mestre e continue trilhando uma trajetória de sucesso, sendo campeão mundial na faixa-preta e a partir daí pretendo migrar para o MMA. 

Qual é a frase motivacional que você gosta de repetir para você mesmo quando está passando por uma situação difícil? 

Tudo na vida são fases, por mais longas que possam parecer tudo passa. E também gosto de lembrar que tudo posso naquele que me fortalece.
