Nosso professor GMI Jefferson Moura abriu as portas de sua academia Gracie Barra no Colorado para receber os leitores GRACIEMAG. O aulão versou sobre os detalhes do leglock.

A técnica começa quando o oponente, preso na guarda, se posiciona de pé para abrir a guarda e passar.

Neste momento, Jefferson cede a abertura da guarda e realiza um giro com o quadril levantado, para posicioná-lo no joelho do adversário enquanto domina a mesma perna. Com a alavanca montada, Jefferson leva o oponente ao chão e ajusta o leglock.

Para ampliar seu leque de ataques da guarda fechada, nosso GMI Jefferson Moura, da Gracie Barra, preparou uma aula para mostrar um detalhe para raspar usando a lapela de dentro da guarda.

O professor começa quebrando a postura do passador para poder abrir a guarda e soltar o kimono do adversário. Quando o oponente se estabiliza na guarda, Jefferson levanta seu quadril, posiciona a lapela por baixo da perna do passador e encaixa a perna no ombro do adversário, facilitando a raspagem que termina no cem-quilos.

Legend has it that demigod Hercules performed the first of his 12 labors by squeezing the neck of the powerful Nemean lion. Sounds pretty fantastic indeed, but a similar episode seems to have taken place in real life in Colorado.

A man running on a trail at Horsetooth was attacked by a mountain lion, it was reported earlier this month. This brought on the athlete’s survival instincts and he was able to kill the lion with, well, a lion killer.

Following the attack, the man was hospitalized in no risk of dying, but with bad injuries to his arm and face. The animal was a young puma, weighing less than the 100kg that adults can reach. Its young age may have been decisive in the outcome, as it would make it less of an experienced hunter. It really is a wild world out there, so it’s better to stay prepared.

Na mitologia, o semi-deus Hércules cumpriu seu primeiro de 12 trabalhos ao apertar o pescoço do poderoso leão da Nemeia. Casos assim parecem existir apenas no mundo da fantasia, mas uma situação similar e real aconteceu no Colorado, nos EUA.

Ao praticar corrida numa trilha, um atleta acabou surpreendido ao ser atacado por um puma (também conhecido como leão da montanha ou suçuarana). O ataque, porém, trouxe ao homem o mais primitivo instinto de sobrevivência, e este conseguiu revidar com as mãos e pés para estrangular o bicho até a morte.

O caso, ocorrido no parque das montanhas de Horsetooth no dia 4 de fevereiro, ainda é investigado pela polícia e guardas florestais locais. Após o ataque, o homem foi encaminhado para o hospital sem risco de morte, mas com ferimentos graves no braço e rosto. O animal, de acordo com o relatório do parque, era um jovem puma, com peso inferior aos adultos que podem chegar a 100kg. Sua pouca idade também pode ter influenciado no resultado do ataque, já que o animal supostamente não teria a experiência de caça de animais mais velhos.

“Ataques de leões da montanha não são comuns no Colorado”, disse Ty Petersburg, gestor do Colorado Parks and Wildlife. “Infelizmente,  o leão se sentiu instigado a atacar ao ver o corredor passando. O homem fez tudo que pôde para salvar sua própria vida. Em uma situação na qual você é atacado por um felino deste porte, você tem que fazer tudo que está ao seu alcance para sobreviver, assim como ele fez.”

Our GMA members at Team Zingano in Broomfield, CO celebrated their last belt promotion ceremony of the year on Saturday, Dec. 7. The gathering brought together over 100 students for a great day of training and celebration.

Master Mauricio Zingano says, “The highlight of the day was promoting three new brown belts among all the other blue and purple belts promoted that day.”

The ceremony took place at their Broomfield location and they had Max Muscle there as well supporting the event and providing everyone with protein shakes and samples of their products for all the students to try out.

Professor Ralek Gracie, grand son of Grandmaster Helio Gracie visited GMA academy Zingano BJJ in Broomfield, Colorado on Oct. 26 for a seminar. There was a huge turn-out of participants.

As an interesting backstory, Professor Zingano during his days as a blue and purple belt was an instructor at the Gracie Academy and taught many of the kids classes. For a period of time Ralek, Ryron and Rener Gracie were his students. Zingano says, “Interesting how the Jiu-Jitsu world goes around and around.”

Ralek is expected to return sometime in 2014 for another seminar. Stay tuned!

Tijuca Tenis Clube welcomes Rio Open, Master & Senior

This past weekend the IBJJF International Masters and Seniors Championship ran alongside the Rio Open to give the 30+ crowd its wo shining glory. Located in the Tijuca Tennis Club the four-day event catered to legends and novice competitors alike from white to black, master to senior 4 categories.

Two of GMA members traveled to the tournament and accomplished three medals.

Black belt senior 4 competitor Itabora Ferreira took home the gold in the middleweight category representing the Alliance banner. His team back home in San Francisco serves as the Alliance headquarters in Northern California. A cancer survivor, Itabora lives a fulfilled life of teaching and also proving his skills on the mat whenever he can.

Amal Easton was also present at the championship and he placed first in his senior 2 heavyweight division as well as second in the absolute. A Renzo Gracie black belt fighting under Gordo Jiu-Jitsu, he heads Easton BJJ academies in Boulder and Denver, Colorado.
