Em entrevista recente ao GRACIEMAG.com, Kron Gracie deu indícios de que estaria dentro do Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu. Logo deve sair a listagem completa de inscritos, com a confirmação.

Independentemente disso, Kron está com o Jiu-Jitsu fino. No BJJ Professional Cup, na Itália, o faixa-preta finalizou os quatro combates que fez.

In a recent GRACIEMAG.com interview, Kron Gracie hinted he was a sure thing for the Jiu-Jitsu Worlds. The complete list of athletes should soon be released with confirmation.

Regardless, Kron’s been showing some slick Jiu-Jitsu. At the BJJ Professional Cup in Italy, the black belt got the submission in all four of his matches.

Bernardo Faria was the big winner of the day, winning gold in his weight class, the absolute, and the superfight against Rômulo Barral. Kron Gracie wasn’t far behind, getting the submission in all his matches, to the joy of his father, Rickson Gracie, who watched on from the sidelines. Rômulo Barral showed his Jiu-Jitsu is back up to speed for the Worlds, Lúcio Lagarto had two hard-fought wars with Bernardo Faria, and the masters marked their presence with the Silva brothers dominating the absolute and another gold from Megaton, this time over the hard-nosed Avaro Bobadilla.

Kron Gracie não fez por menos e finalizou todos os combates para a alegria do pai Rickson, atento a tudo nos bastidores. Rômulo Barral mostrou que o Jiu-Jitsu está mais que afiado para o Mundial, Lúcio Lagarto protagonizou duas verdadeiras batalhas contra Bernardo Faria e os masters marcaram presença com o domínio dos irmãos Silva no absoluto e mais um ouro de Megaton, dessa vez contra o arisco Avaro Bobadilla.

The final of Italy’s BJJ Professional Cup absolute division didn’t end the way everyone had expected it would. The argument between the two finalists, Bernardo Faria and Rômulo Barral, struck up when the Gracie Barra representative sunk a foot lock that then evolved into a knee lock. Bernardo complained to the referee that the move was illegal and Rômulo, who had already been warned about grabbing the inside of the pant leg, took offense to his opponent’s attitude. The match continued, and Bernardo again expressed grievances, which Barral interpreted as the fighter verbally giving up. The black belt let go of the hold – which was not in fact illegal, as the referees for the match later confirmed. However, the referee had not stepped in to interrupt the match, nor had Bernardo signalled that he had given up, despite the complaints he voiced. Rômulo refused to carry on fighting unless he would be allowed to start up with the hold again in place. Bernardo thus saw his arm raised as the winner of the absolute division.

Barral contacted GRACIEMAG.com requesting to make public his opinion. Bernardo too had remarked on his impression of the events. To round things out, we also spoke with the central referee in the match, IBJJF referee Alvaro Bobadilla. Check it out:

“The hold really was locked in, but I let go out of anger because he was complaining that the move was illegal. I’m positive the move was hurting him, as it’s a really strong position. I understood him to have verbally submitted when I got distracted at that moment in the match. I’d have continued fighting if they’d let me go back to that position; I don’t feel it would have been right to stand us up again and even take a warning. I don’t regret not having gone back. What I regret is having let go of the hold.

“For sure Bernardo had a great championship; kudos to him. I feel he was out of line pushing me, but it happens, right? He could have been disqualified for that – Samuel Braga was disqualified and suspended for six months after pushing Guilherme Mendes afther their match at the 2009 Worlds… But I do feel he deserves credit for the championship. After all, we both were wrong; it wasn’t just me who was out of line. Bernardo is to be congratulated; he’s a great athlete with plenty of grit and who I admire a great deal. But I am certain that if we’d continued with that hold in place the outcome would have been different.

“I’d like to ask the forgiveness of Bernardo, the fans, spectators, and the organizers of the event, for the outcome of the match. Bernardo and I are respected athletes and we were out of line at that moment. We train a lot and give our lives for first place, without even thinking about prizes or money.”

“Shoot, I see fighters complain to referees in lots of matches; it comes with the territory. In this case it was up to the referee to issue a penalty. I really was feeling it in my knee, but the ref is the one to say if it was valid or not. But Rômulo alleged that I had been submitted, when I was just complaining about the position.

“I really was out of order when he let go of the hold; I pushed him and said, ‘Dude, get over it, let’s fight.’ I really regret having done that. I like Rômulo a lot, he’s always been a role model to me in Jiu-Jitsu.

“I’ve already spoken with him and all’s good. I like him a lot and thank God we settled our differences.”

“I would have penalized Bernardo for complaining. In fact, he’d already been penalized once for complaining. But Rômulo, on two occasions, acted prematurely. He should not have let go of the position, because at no point had he been advised that the move was illegal. Either he would have gotten the tapout or Bernardo would be penalized for complaining needlessly. They had an argument, but I did not interpret Bernardo to have aggressed upon him. It’s also worth mentioning that I’m not the one who makes the final decision, as there are three arbiters overseeing the match, and Barral said, on several occasions, that he didn’t want to go on fighting. The thing is that nowhere in the IBJJF rule book does it say you can let go of a hold and then return to the same position.”

Biella, Italy, played stage to a number of the world’s best Jiu-Jitsu stylists, at the BJJ Professional Cup. Among the attractions, the supermatchups, featuring combat of the highest caliber, like the one between heavyweight world champion Bernardo Faria and 2009’s Brazilian national champion, Raphael Abi-Rihan.

A final do absoluto no BJJ Professional Cup, na Itália, não acabou como todos esperavam. A discussão entre Bernardo Faria e Rômulo Barral, ambos finalistas, teve início quando o representante da Gracie Barra ajustou uma chave de pé, que depois evoluiu para uma chave de joelho. Bernardo passou a reclamar com o juiz que o golpe era ilegal e Rominho, que já havia sido advertido antes por uma pegada na boca da calça, passou a reclamar da atitude do oponente. A luta continuou, Bernardo passou a reclamar novamente e Barral interpretou que o lutador havia desistido verbalmente. O faixa-preta soltou o golpe, que realmente não era ilegal, segundo confirmaram os principais árbitros do evento. No entanto, não houve a intervenção da arbitragem para interromper a luta, nem mesmo Bernardo, apesar das reclamações que fez, deu indícios de que havia sido finalizado. Rômulo não aceitou voltar a lutar, apenas se pudesse encaixar a posição novamente. Sendo assim, Bernardo teve o braço erguido como campeão do absoluto.

Barral entrou em contato com o GRACIEMAG.com e pediu para expor a sua opinião. Bernardo Faria também já havia comentado a sua visão dos fatos. Para concluir, também conversamos com o árbitro central da disputa, o juiz da IBJJF Alvaro Bobadilla. Confira:

“O golpe estava realmente encaixado, mas eu agi de cabeça quente e soltei, porque ele estava reclamando de uma chave ilegal. Tenho certeza que estava pegando muito, pois é uma posição muito forte. Eu entendi como uma finalização verbal quando me desconcentrei naquele momento da luta. Eu até voltaria a lutar se voltasse com a posição encaixada, não achei certo voltar em pé e ainda tomar uma advertência. Não me arrependo de não ter voltado a lutar, mas sim por ter soltado o golpe.”

“Com certeza o Bernardo fez um ótimo campeonato e tem todos os seu méritos. Achei errado ele ter me empurrado, mas acontece, né? E ele também poderia ser desclassificado por isso. O Samuel Braga foi desclassificado e suspenso por seis meses por empurrar o Guilherme Mendes após a luta no Mundial 2009… Mas sei que ele teve os seus méritos durante a competição. Na final, nós dois erramos, não foi só eu o errado em tudo. Bernardo está de parabéns, é um grande atleta, com muita raça, que admiro muito. Mas tenho certeza que, se eu continuasse com o golpe encaixado, a luta teria outro desfecho.”

“Queria pedir desculpa ao Bernardo, fãs, expectadores e organizadores do evento pelo desfecho da luta. Eu e o Bernardo somos atletas respeitados e erramos naquele momento. Treinamos muito e damos nossa vida pelo primeiro lugar, sem mesmo pensar em prêmio ou dinheiro.”

“Poxa, vejo lutadores reclamarem com os juízes em diversas lutas, faz parte. Cabe ao juiz punir neste caso. Estava realmente sentindo o meu joelho, mas o árbitro diria se ali era válido ou não. Mas o Rômulo alegou que eu havia sido finalizado, eu apenas estava reclamando da posição.”

“Realmente errei quando ele soltou o golpe, cheguei a empurrar ele e falar: ‘Pô cara, para com isso, vamos lutar’. Fiquei muito arrependido de ter feito isso. Gosto muito do Rominho, ele sempre foi um exemplo para mim no Jiu-Jitsu.”

“Já conversei com ele e está tudo bem. Gosto muito dele e, graças a Deus, está tudo resolvido entre nós.”

Alvaro Bobadilla

“Eu teria punido o Bernardo por reclamação e ele, inclusive, já havia sido punido uma vez por reclamação. Mas o Rômulo, em dois momentos, se antecipou à minha atitude. Ele não poderia soltar a posição, inclusive, porque ele em nenhum momento foi advertido sobre o golpe ser ilegal. Ou ele teria finalizado, ou o Bernardo seria punido por reclamar injustamente. Eles discutiram, mas não interpretei que o Bernardo tenha agredido ele. Vale lembrar também que eu não sou absoluto na decisão, pois eram três árbitros no comando da luta, e que a luta não prosseguiu porque o Barral disse, por diversas vezes, que não queria mais lutar. O negócio é que não existe nas regras da IBJJF a chance de soltar o golpe e depois voltar com ele encaixado.”

Biella, na Itália, recebeu alguns dos melhores lutadores do Mundo no BJJ Professional Cup. Entre as atrações, as lutas casadas do evento, que trouxeram combates de primeira como o do campeão mundial peso pesado Bernardo Faria e o campeão do Brasileiro 2009 meio-pesado Raphael Abi-Rihan.

After winning their supermatches at the BJJ Professional Cup (see here), Bernardo Faria and Kron Gracie returned to the mats and were the big standouts at the event.

Bernardo had the most matches. In the superheavyweight division, first he beat Lúcio Lagarto with a sweep, and then swept and passed the guard of Chico Mendes in the decider, bringing the bout to a close with a choke from back mount. In the absolute, Bernardo got the finish in his first two matches before again facing Lúcio Lagarto, in the most hotly-disputed match of the day, putting on a fine display of sweeps and achieving back mount (8 to 4).

The decider, against Rômulo Barral, didn’t end how everyone expected it would. Bernardo complained about how a footlock was positioned and, following an argument between the fighters and referee, Barral opted not to continue. Thus the Alliance representative was the big winner on the day and he and Rômulo then buried the hatchet. It’s worth noting that the absolute was worth 7,000 euros.

Now Kron got the tapout in every match he was in. After beating Yan in the superfight, his maiden middleweight outing ended with a choke from back mount. Next, he used a guillotine in going through to the final against Gilbert Durinho, who submitted Alan Freitas and got past Eduardo Pessoa on points (6 to 2). In the decider Durinho took the lead early on with an eyeful takedown, but Kron struck back with a choke from the guard, placing him at the top of the winners’ podium.

Another with a fine display in Biella was Rômulo Barral, who finished his first match with a choke, before facing Eduardo Rios and then Raphael Abi-Rihan in the medium heavyweight final. Against Abi the Gracie Barra black belt swept and sunk a snug reverse triangle. Raphael escaped but was unable to turn the score around.

The featherweight division ended with Fernando Vieira and Reinaldo Ribeiro facing off in the final. With a sweep and guard pass, Fernando took the gold and 4,000 euros in prize money.

Thiago “Monstro” Borges won the ultraheavyweight division, rallying back after falling behind on the scoreboard against Ricardo Barros. He trailed by a sweep early on but secured the win with a subsequent reversal and guard pass.

Master – In the veterans division the Silva family was the big standout, with twins Adriano and Thiago, two Barbosinha black belts, coming up spades. Adriano won the medium heavyweight division, overcoming Antônio Sérgio Canudo, while Thiago took second at middleweight, losing to Zé Beleza’s stalwart student Felipe Souza, who overcame seasoned competitors like Roberto Atalla.

In the absolute the brothers set an example by locking horns for real in the final. Adriano came out on top, winning with an arm-triangle choke.

At featherweight, Alvaro Bobadilla beat two opponents before going into the final against Wellington Megaton, who went straight through without having to compete. The decisive match saw Megaton come out on top by 4 to 2, all the points coming from sweeps. At lightweight Alan Vieira captured the gold after facing Eduardo Azevedo in the final. The prize for the winners of the master contest was 1,000 dollars for weight group winners and 2,000 for the winner of the absolute.

Depois das vitórias nas lutas casadas da BJJ Professional Cup (veja aqui), Bernardo Faria e Kron Gracie voltaram à ação na Itália, e foram os grandes destaques do evento.

Bernardo foi quem mais lutou. Na categoria superpesado, primeiro bateu Lúcio Lagarto com uma raspagem e, na final, raspou e passou a guarda de Chico Mendes antes de finalizar com um estrangulamento nas costas. No absoluto, Bernardo finalizou as duas primeiras lutas antes de enfrentar mais uma vez Lúcio Lagarto, na luta mais disputada do dia, com um show de raspagens e uma pegada de costas (8 a 4).

A decisão, contra Rômulo Barral, não acabou do jeito que todos esperavam. Bernardo reclamou do posicionamento de uma chave de joelho, e, após uma discussão entre os lutadores e a arbitragem, Barral optou por não lutar mais. Sendo assim, o representante da Alliance foi o grande campeão do dia e ele e Rominho já fizeram as pazes. Vale lembrar que o absoluto valia sete mil euros.

Já Kron finalizou todas as lutas que fez. Depois de vencer Yan na luta casada, estreou no peso médio com um estrangulamento das costas. Em seguida, usou a guilhotina para ir à final com Gilbert Durinho, que finalizou Alan Freitas e passou por Eduardo Pessoa nos pontos (6 a 2). Na decisão, Durinho começou melhor, com uma bela queda, mas Kron respondeu com um estrangulamento da guarda que garantiu o lugar mais alto do pódio.

Outro que lutou bem em Biella, Rômulo Barral finalizou a primeira disputa com um estrangulamento e depois Eduardo Rios antes de encarar Raphael Abi-Rihan na decisão do meio-pesado. Contra Abi, o faixa-preta da Gracie Barra raspou e encaixou um justo triângulo invertido. Raphael escapou do golpe, mas não conseguiu inverter o placar.

No pena, a final foi entre Fernando Vieira e Reinaldo Ribeiro. Com uma raspada e uma passagem de guarda, Fernando ficou com a medalha de ouro e os quatro mil euros de premiação.

Thiago “Monstro” Borges foi o campeão do pesadíssimo, tendo virado o placar na final contra Ricardo Barros. Começou perdendo com uma raspada, mas garantiu a vitória após capotar e passar a guarda.

Master – Na divisão dos veteranos o destaque foi para a família Silva, com os irmãos gêmeos Adriano e Thiago, faixas-pretas de Barbosinha. Adriano foi campeão do meio-pesado, tendo derrotado Antônio Sérgio Canudo, enquanto Thiago ficou em segundo no médio, batido pela pedreira do professor Zé Beleza Felipe Souza, que derrotou lutadores experientes como Roberto Atalla.

No absoluto, os irmãos deram exemplo e lutaram na final, para valer mesmo. Nesta, Adriano finalizou com um katagatame.

No peso pena, Alvaro Bobadilla venceu dois oponentes, e encarou Wellington Megaton na decisão, que acabou indo direto para a final. No combate decisivo, Megaton levou a melhor por 4 a 2, todos os pontos com raspadas. No leve, Alan Freitas disputou o ouro com Eduardo Azevedo e levou a melhor. Já a fera Matcelo Vanuza, aluno de Ricardo De La Riva, foi o campeao no pesadissimo apos vencer dois combates, alem de ficar em terceiro no adulto. Outro destaque do dia foi Diogo Primo. O faixa-preta da Akxe fez duas lutas e finalizou na final. A premiação para o campeão master foi de mil euros no peso e dois mil no absoluto.
