Evento marcado pelo cercado azul, o Limo Fight MMA aporta mais uma vez na cidade de Limoeiro do Norte, Ceará, no dia 31 de julho. E o destaque da edição vem do UFC. Ex-TUF, o faixa-preta Anistávio Gasparzinho encara Iramar Frota.

Dono de 25 vitórias no MMA, Gasparzinho marcou o reality show da Globo com seu jeito brincalhão. Já o cearense Iramar, atual campeão do torneio limoeirense, não está para brincadeiras: ele vem embalado numa sequência de cinco vitórias.

A luta foi fechada na última semana pelo organizador Gean do Vale, que está empolgado com a próxima edição do evento. “O objetivo do Limo Fight MMA é sempre trazer atrações nacionais para a região. Estamos trabalhando sério para transformá-lo num dos maiores eventos do Nordeste”, disse.

Last Saturday at UFC 147, Rodrigo Damm used his Jiu-Jitsu to put away Anistávio Gasparzinho and pocked a hefty bonus for submission of the night.

Besides the exciting end to the fight, there were undertones of rivalry. All because Damm didn’t like Gasparzinho’s fooling around in the TUF Brazil house.

“In the TUF house, I saw first hand how the place for being spooky is the cemetery [Gasparzinho” means “Caspar the Friendly Ghost” in Portuguese]. Jokes aside, it was in that fight that I could see really clearly how you have to be concentrated, focused on the fight and the opponent,” said the native of Espirito Santo State to GRACIEMAG.

“The fight with Gaspar went as we’d imagined it would. My coaches and I put together a game plan and it went to the tee. I worked hard on my hands, and the moment he felt them land, I got to put my Jiu-Jitsu to work on the ground and finish him,” he added.

But it wasn’t all that common a rear-naked choke. On the move, the brother of female fighter Carina Damm explained how he fastened the choke without touching his hand to his opponent’s head.

“I like doing it that way because it goes in tighter. When I grab my own head I get leverage and cause my opponent tremendous discomfort,” explained the fighter, who went on to offer a tip for our reader/practitioners to further improve their gentle-art skills.

“My tip for beginners is to practice it daily and do the position over and over agin. From repeating it so many times, they’ll iron out their back control and it’ll come to them automatically. Be patient and do go off halfcocked. Stabilize the position and from there start working from their back, where you have a number of options for finishing,” detailed the black belt, who took the chance to send out thanks.

“I’d like to thank my coaches for the dedicated work they’ve done with me and their patience. My family and friends for the support and for rooting for me. My sponsors for believing in me and helping me fulfill my dream. And above all to God for being faithful,” said the featherweight in closing.

No último sábado pelo UFC 147, Rodrigo Damm usou o Jiu-Jitsu para pegar Anistávio Gasparzinho e faturar o polpudo bônus de finalização da noite.

Além do desfecho empolgante, o duelo teve um tom de rivalidade. Tudo porque Damm não gostou das brincadeiras de Gasparzinho dentro da casa do “TUF Brasil”.

“Na casa do ‘TUF’, pude confirmar que lugar de assombração é no cemitério (risos). Brincadeiras à parte, essa foi a luta em que pude visualizar muito claramente a necessidade de estar concentrado, focado na luta e no adversário”, contou o faixa-preta capixaba ao GRACIEMAG.

“A luta com o Gaspar foi como tínhamos imaginado. Meus treinadores e eu traçamos uma estratégia e foi exatamente como ocorreu. Trabalhei a mão dura e, na hora que ele sentiu, pude desenvolver meu Jiu-Jitsu no chão e finalizá-lo”, completou.

Mas não foi um mata-leão assim tão comum. Sobre o golpe, o irmão da lutadora Carina Damm explica como ele arrochou o mata-leão sem botar a mão na cabeça do potiguar.

“Eu gosto de fazer dessa forma porque fica mais justo. Quando eu seguro minha própria cabeça, consigo fazer uma alavanca, causando um enorme desconforto no adversário”, detalhou o casca-grossa, que ainda deixou um macate para nosso leitor/praticante melhorar suas habilidades na arte suave.

“Minha dica para os iniciantes no Jiu-Jitsu é que treinem diariamente, e façam muitas vezes a mesma posição. De tanto repetir, seu domínio das costas vai se ajustando e ficando automático. Tenha paciência e não fique afobado. Estabilize a posição e a partir daí comece a trabalhar as costas, de onde há várias alternativas para finalizar o adversário”, listou a fera, que aproveitou o espaço para agradecer.

“Gostaria de agradecer aos meus treinadores, pelo trabalho feito com tanta dedicação e paciência. À minha família e amigos pelo apoio e torcida. Aos patrocinadores por acreditarem em mim, e me ajudarem a realizar um sonho. E acima de tudo, a Deus, pela fidelidade dele”, concluiu o peso-pena.

On newsstands across Brazil in January 2008, NOCAUTE magazine issue 60 featured a great interview with Wanderlei Silva, in which the UFC star issued praise for and a prophecy about his nemesis Vitor Belfort.

“He’s a great athlete . … His has his merit and I’m sure our fight will happen in the future,” said the fighter four years before the fight… well, almost happened.

The issue is full of gems, like images of the submissions by GSP over Matt Hughes, Fedor on Hong Man and Lyoto Machida on Sokoudjou. Our favorite excerpt, however, is one from “The tip of the iceberg,” on the fight between Wand and Chuck Liddell—two fighters who crossed paths amicably years later in Belo Horizonte.

Here’s the part in question:

“If the brilliant chronicler Nelson Rodrigues (1912-1980) were alive—he who never missed a Carlson Gracie fight in Rio—, he would likely have scribed an epic description of the second-to-last fight of the night in the UFC. Something like this:

The battle on Saturday was dramatic by nature and charged with soul, it’s stars dripping with readiness like drenched umbrellas. At the very first trade of blows, Wanderlei Silva showed just why he’s the pride of his nation: following one of the tremendous haymakers the fellow Chuck Liddell would dish out in the fight, the Brazilian took a step back to such in a lungful of air, rested his back against the fencing of the terrifying octagon, and underwent a transformation.

He was no longer a fighter, but a windmill, spinning his blades at dreadful speed and sweeping the American, the crowd, the Brazilian fans, the devil. Yes, Wanderlei lost, but it was a triumphal defeat. After all, our Silva remained on his feet, and the one who landed on his backside and crashed to the ground like a building in Downtown Rio wasn’t him, but his opponent, in the second round. Come and go: getting upended is the most harrowing experience a man can suffer in his brief time on Earth.”

Lançada nas bancas do Brasil em janeiro de 2008, a Revista NOCAUTE de número 60 trazia, entre outras pérolas, uma grande entrevista com Wanderlei Silva. Lá, o ídolo do UFC fazia um elogio e uma profecia sobre o arquirrival Vitor Belfort.

“Ele é um ótimo atleta. (….) Tem seus méritos e tenho certeza que no futuro nossa luta vai acontecer”, disse o paranaense, quatro anos antes da luta…, bem, quase ocorrer.

Tal edição da revista está recheada de pérolas, como belas imagens das finalizações de GSP em cima de Matt Hughes, a de Fedor em cima de Hong Man e a de Lyoto Machida em cima de Sokoudjou. Nosso trecho favorito, no entanto, é um trecho da reportagem “Casco no iceberg”, sobre a luta entre Wand e Chuck Liddell – dois lutadores que, aliás, têm se cruzado amistosamente em Belo Horizonte, anos depois.

Eis o trecho:

“Se o genial cronista Nelson Rodrigues (1912-1980) fosse vivo, ele que não perdia uma luta de Carlson Gracie no Rio, talvez fizesse uma épica descrição do penúltimo combate da noite no UFC. Algo assim:

A batalha de sábado foi de singular dramatismo e entupida de alma, com seus personagens pingando disposição como guarda-chuvas encharcados. Logo na primeira troca de murros, Wanderlei Silva mostrou por que é o orgulho da pátria: após um dos tremendos bofetões que o cidadão Chuck Liddell iria distribuir na luta, o brasileiro recuou para puxar uma lufada de ar, apoiou as costas nas grades do assustador octógno, e se transformou.

Não era mais um lutador, e sim um moinho de vento, movendo suas pás em velocidade assustadora e varrendo o americano, plateia, os fãs no Brasil, o diabo. Sim, Wanderlei perdeu, mas foi uma derrota triunfal. Afinal, nosso Silva terminou de pé, e quem caiu sentado e desabou como um prédio do centro do Rio não foi ele, mas o oponente, no segundo assalto. Vamos e venhamos: cair sentado é a mais torva experiência que o homem pode sofrer, no seu curto estágio terreno.”

With over a decade’s experience stepping into rings and cages to face opponents from the most diverse corners of the world, Jiu-Jitsu black belt Milton Vieira has taken part in some of the biggest fighting shows on earth, including: Pride, Strikeforce, Shooto, Meca and Bitetti Combat. With more than his fair share of submission wins on his ledger, the BTT representative admits that making the first entrance into the octagon of his career next Saturday will be something special for him.

“Every athlete wants to compete at the best event there is, so making it to the UFC at this moment is really important to me. I’ve been working hard at Brazilian Top Team since 2003, when I joined the team, and I spared no sweat, blood or determination in getting to the UFC,” he said, as he gears up to face Felipe “Sertanejo” Arantes in the first fight on the card for the UFC to take place Saturday night in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte.

While his original background is in the luta livre style of grappling, Milton has faith his Jiu-Jitsu will lead him to triumph at Mineirinho Stadium. But anyone thinking the Rio de Janeiro native will do everything in his power to win via submission would be wrong.

“I’m not planning to only show what I can do on the ground. I like punching, kicking, flying knees, elaborate moves. I like getting the crowd going. I always fight to win. It’s something important to me, to my family, but I fight to put on a show. I want to always put on fun fights,” he points out.

Aiming not just to be part of the UFC but to make it to the top of the featherweight ranks, Milton is making his debut on the big stage at 33, an age when, according to his coach Murilo Bustamante, is when MMA fighters are just reaching their prime.

“In my view MMA fighters reach their peak at around 35, 36 years of age. Anderson Silva and myself, for example, won titles when we were over 30,” said Bustamante. “Milton is a talent just awaiting opportunities, and he has a bright future ahead of him.”

The BTT is now celebrating a new partnership with the marketing firm Garra.

Há mais de uma década subindo em ringues e encarando adversários dos mais diversos cantos, o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Miltinho Vieira já participou de competições como o badalado Pride, Strikeforce, Shooto, Meca e Bitetti Combat. Com um cartel recheado de finalizações, o lutador da BTT confessa que será especial subir ao octógono pela primeira vez, no próximo sábado.

“Todo atleta quer estar no melhor lugar e é muito importante para mim chegar ao UFC neste momento. Sempre trabalhei forte na Brazilian Top Team desde 2003, quando entrei para a equipe, e não poupei suor, sangue e vontade para estar no UFC”, disse ele, que deve fazer a primeira luta da noite em Belo Horizonte, contra Felipe “Sertanejo” Arantes.

Atleta oriundo da luta-livre, Miltinho confia em seu Jiu-Jitsu para triunfar no Mineirinho. Mas se engana quem acredita que a estratégia do carioca do bairro de Vila Isabel será fazer de tudo para decidir a luta por finalização.

“Eu não pretendo mostrar somente minha qualidade no chão. Gosto de soco, chute, joelhada voadora, golpes mais plásticos. Tudo para alegrar o público. Luto pela vitória sempre. Ela é importante para mim, para minha família, para minha equipe, mas eu luto também para dar show. Quero sempre estar fazendo lutas bonitas”, destaca ele.

Com o objetivo de não apenas fazer parte do UFC, mas de estar entre os melhores do peso-pena, Miltinho debuta no evento aos 33 anos, idade em que, segundo o técnico Murilo Bustamante, os lutadores de MMA estão próximos do melhor momento.

“Ao meu ver o ápice técnico do lutador de MMA ocorre por volta dos 35, 36 anos. Anderson Silva e eu, por exemplo, conquistamos o título com mais de 30 anos”, disse Bustamante. “O Miltinho é um talento que só precisa de oportunidades e ainda tem um futuro brilhante pela frente”.

A equipe BTT celebrou uma nova parceria, na área de marketing, com a empresa Garra.

The UFC medical department has an announcement: there’s a Jiu-Jitsu world champion in the final of the TUF Brazil reality show. With the original finalist, Daniel Sarafian, having suffered a serious bicep injury while training, the opponent to face Cezar “Mutante” in the middleweight final is now Sérgio Moraes. The Alliance black belt had previously been knocked out by a Sarafian flying knee in the semifinals of the TUF Brazil reality show.

In the featherweight final, two fighters from the Brazilian state of Ceará, Godofredo Pepey and Rony Jason, will lock horns to see who gets their hands on a UFC contract.

On Sunday, during the final episode of TUF Brazil, Mutante earned the season’s best-knockout bonus of BRL 45,000 with a powerful kick to the head of Thiago Bodão, who himself was invited to fight on the card for UFC 147, coming up June 23 in the city of Belo Horizonte. The Vitor Belfort student also took home a spanking new pickup truck, for having been elected the best fighter of the reality show.

The prize for best submission went to Rony Jason for the armbar he used to put away Anistávio Gasparzinho, while best fight went to Thiago Bodão vs. Francisco Massaranduba.

O departamento médico do UFC informa: tem campeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu na final do TUF Brasil. Com a contusão séria de Daniel Sarafian, que machucou o bíceps durante os treinamentos o oponente do peso médio Cezar Mutante será o rei da Cohab Serginho Moraes. O faixa-preta da Alliance havia sido nocauteado por Sarafian na semifinal do reality show “TUF Brasil”, com uma joelhada voadora.

Na final dos penas, os cearenses Godofredo Pepey e Rony Jason também vão disputar o contrato com o Ultimate.

No domingo, no último episódio do “TUF Brasil”, Mutante faturou o melhor nocaute do programa (45 mil reais) com um chutaço na cabeça de Thiago Bodão, que também acabou convidado a lutar no UFC 147, dia 23 agora em Belo Horizonte. O aluno de Vitor Belfort também ficou com uma picape zero quilômetro, após ser eleito o melhor lutador do reality.

O prêmio de melhor finalização foi para Rony Jason, pelo armlock aplicado em Anistávio Gasparzinho, enquanto a melhor luta foi Thiago Bodão vs Francisco Massaranduba. O prêmio também foi de 45 mil.

O Jiu-Jitsu selou a primeira vitória do time azul, o de Wanderlei Silva, no TUF Brasil.

No sétimo episódio do reality show dominical da Rede Globo, o cearense Rony Jason encarou seu amigo Anistávio Gasparzinho e depois de uma breve trocação de golpes em pé, a luta foi para o chão. Jason encaixou então um armlock para encerrar o duelo com o ex-parceiro de treinos.

O papel do quadril e das pernas no armlock

“No armlock o mais importante é a fuga do quadril e atirar o quadril fazendo uma ponte, sempre lembrando de prender o braço com as pernas”, ensina João Paulo Marques, um dos primeiros professores de Jiu-Jitsu de Rony Jason, em papo com o GRACIEMAG.com.

“Reparem, o Jason enlaçou a perna com o braço para facilitar mais ainda essa fuga de quadril e desestabilizar a base do adversário, o que facilitou a capotada do Gasparzinho”, detalha Marques.

Wanderlei Silva’s Blue Team finally got its first win on the TUF Brazil, last Sunday, and they have Jiu-Jitsu to thank for it.

On the seventh episode of the reality show on Brazil’s most popular television channel, Globo, Rony “Jason” took on his friend Anistávio “Gasparzinho”. Following a brief exchange on the feet the action went to the ground. Jason wrapped up the fight with an armbar, ending the face-off between training partners.

ROLE OF HIPS AND LEGS IN ARMBAR

“The most important part of the armbar is slipping out the hip and bridging it upwards, while remembering to lock the arm in using the legs,” teaches João Paulo Marques, Rony “Jason’s” first Jiu-Jitsu instructor, in a conversation with GRACIEMAG.com.

“Note how Jason wraps up the leg with his arm to facilitate his hip movement and to destabilize the opponent, which led to his flipping Gasparzinho over,” said Marques in detail.

The crowd that showed up at Nilson Nelson gymnasium in Brasilia was treated to a number of great fights this Friday night, with the 22nd installment of Shooto Brazil, an André Pederneiras and Edinho Bittencourt production. Besides the three South American titles, the event was attended by UFC featherweight champion José Aldo, and television star Juju Panicat drove the crowd into a frenzy.

Belts on the line

The 70kg title fight between Hacran Dias and Eliene Pit was a true battle. Hacran managed to take his adversary to the ground throughout the bout as well as landing solid strikes that battered his opponent’s eyes. But Pit toughed it out, giving as good as he got on a number of occasions. The striking exchange at the end, with both worn out, brought the crowd to its feet. In end, Hacran took the unanimous decision, bringing his tally to 18 wins with just one loss.

Carlos Índio flew over from Fortaleza to defend his under 83 kg belt. It nearly went down the drain early on, when he took a knockdown and struggled to escape a guillotine from his opponent. But Índio recovered well and dropped Junior Beba with a spot-on knee. From there on out, he dominated until getting the technical knockout, while still in the first round.

Now Ronny Marques left nothing to chance. In just 43 second he settled the bout with a well-placed punch that dropped Diogo Osama. A few strikes later and the fighter was celebrating in the arms of his master Jair Oliveira. Anyone who blinked missed it.

Plenty action and major stars

Former UFC fighter Ronys Torres put his Jiu-Jitsu to practice. After getting the takedown and mounting, he went for a kimura lock. But the win came later with a snug guillotine while still in the first round. The fight between Marco Antônio “Bad Face” and Hernani Perpétuo ended in the break between the first and second rounds. One of the toughest fighters in Brazilian MMA, Johnny Eduardo showed his Jiu-Jitsu’s on par with his striking, against José Wilson. During the fight, the student of the late Luiz Alves got the takedown and mounted, to then finish from back mount with a rear-naked choke in the third round.

“That’s why I always say, ‘this isn’t muay thai, it’s MMA, a box of surprises!” said Johnny later.

John Lineker kept up his winning streak by knocking out Saulo Martins in the first round, after fully dominating the fight. Anistávio “Gasparzinho” Medeiros seemed to be getting the worst of the action against Lucio Curado, but after withstanding the pressure in the first stanza, managed to sink a heelhook in the second. “It was part of my strategy. I wanted him to tire,” he said.

Leonardo Pinheiro and Vinicius Boneco had a lively fight with good moments for each of them. However, in the end the win went to Léo by unanimous decision.
