Claudio Calasans foi o grande nome do World Pro 2010, campeão na categoria de peso e no absoluto. Nesta temporada em Abu Dhabi, Cala segue o mesmo caminho. No peso 83kg, nesta quinta-feira, o faixa-preta superou todos os oponentes e está na final, contra Vinicius Corrales, uma das surpresas na competição.

“Vi algumas lutas dele, o moleque é duro e não é a toa que está na final. Porém, eu vim preparado para enfrentar qualquer adversário. Fiz três lutas contra lutadores também muito duros e vou montar a estratégia com minha equipe para não cometer nenhum erro e sair vitorioso”, diz Calasans ao GRACIEMAG.com.

Vinicius Corrales, o Pulga da Sul Jiu-Jitsu, se junta a outros nomes que não figuravam entre os favoritos, mas que estão nas finais do World Pro.

“Este evento tem o diferencial de serem seis minutos de luta, que é totalmente diferente de lutar 10 minutos. A preparação física e a estratégia não podem ser a mesma. Ficar atrás do placar é complicado, o tempo passa igual a uma flecha. Vi muita gente errar nisso. Gosto de lutar seis minutos, a luta fica mais gostosa de assistir, mais dinâmica e mais fácil de acontecer surpresas.”

A alegria de estar na final do peso é grande. No entanto, Calasans reflete sobre uma questão que trouxe comentários no primeiro dia de disputas com kimono.

“Procuro ficar concentrado e não perder o foco do meu trabalho. O que eu reparei no evento é que teve bastante gente reclamando da arbitragem. Não reclamavam que os árbitros estavam mal intencionados, mas sim desatualizados. Muitas vezes, ficavam em dúvida, apesar de achar que havia bons juízes no evento. Mas senti na própria pele um erro absurdo do árbitro na categoria sem kimono e vi bastante gente comentando sobre erros absurdos. O Jiu-Jitsu está sempre evoluindo, não dá para parar no tempo. Penso que a arbitragem tem que ser da mesma forma, principalmente nessas lutas de alto nível. Vai ai uma crítica para que, ano que vem, o evento se preocupe mais com essa parte”, encerra.

Claudio Calasans was the big name of the 2010 installment of the World Pro, winning both his weight division and the absolute. This season in Abu Dhabi Calasans is still on the same path. In the under-83 kg division this Thursday the black belt overcame all his opponents and is through to the final, against Vinicius Corrales, one of the dark horses of the competition.

“I saw some of his matches – the kid’s tough, and he’s not in the final for nothing. But I’m prepared to deal with all kinds of opponent. I had three matches with fighters who are also really tough, and I put together my strategy with my team so that so as to make no mistakes and win,” Calasans tells GRACIEMAG.com.

Vinicius Corrales, of team Sul Jiu-Jitus, joins the other names that weren’t listed among the favorites to win but who are through to the World Pro finals.

“This event is different in that the matches are six minutes, which is totally different from ten-minute matches. You can’t do the same physical conditioning or have the same strategy. Falling behind on the scorecards is bad news, time goes by in a flash. I watched a lot of guys make that mistake. I like six-minute matches – the fights are fun to watch, more dynamic and more likely to have surprises.”

However happy he is to be in the final of his weight class, Calasans reflects on an issue that stirred up commentary on the first day of Gi Jiu-Jitsu disputes.

“I try and keep concentrated so as not to lose focus on my work. What I noticed in the event is that there are a lot of people complaining about the refereeing. They weren’t complaining that the refs were out to get them, but that they are outdated. They were often in doubt, even though there are good referees at the event. But I myself experienced an absurd refereeing mistake in the no-gi division and heard a lot of folks complaining about reffing mistakes. Jiu-Jitsu is always evolving, you can’t stop in time. I feel the refereeing should be the same, especially with matches at this level. So that’s my criticism so that next year the event won’t have to worry about that part,” he says in closing.

The Atos black belt has already started out well, though: at the Jiu-Jitsu Pan he was one of the big names of the competition, submitting Lucas Leite in the middleweight division.

Claudio Calasans se prepara para defender os dois ouros conquistados em 2010 no World Pro, no peso 83kg e absoluto. No entanto, o faixa-preta da Atos já fez bonito antes disso. No Pan de Jiu-Jitsu, foi um dos grandes nomes da competição, tendo finalizado Lucas Leite na final da categoria médio.

The standout at the IBJJF’s Houston Open on the 13th, Alexandro Ceconi struck gold in the absolute.

“It was the first competition of the year for me and, thank God, all went well. I could see how training will have to keep getting ever more intense,” he says in analysis.

However, he already has other challenges in mind: the Jiu-Jitsu Pan and the World Pro. In the latter, Ceconi is the current under-92 kg champion.

“I really want to fight at the Pan and that’s what I’m preparing to do. I feel my division is like the others: really tough. That being the case, I need to be really prepared to face everyone. As for the World Pro, I still need to try out to try and get the cost of the trip paid for. But I’m in, as I’m the current champion,” says the Romulo Reis and Rilion Gracie student.

In the hustle and bustle of training and competing, the black belt still finds time for MMA, a style in which he holds two wins and remains unbeaten. However:

“During the first half of the year I’m going to focus on Jiu-Jitsu, just as I did last year. One step at a time…”

Destaque no Houston Open, evento da IBJJF que aconteceu no último dia 13, Alexandro Ceconi garantiu o ouro no absoluto.

“Foi a primeira competição do ano para mim e, graças a Deus, deu tudo certo. Pude ver que os treinos devem ser mantidos cada vez com mais intensidade”, analisa.

No entanto, outros desafios já estão em mente: o Pan de Jiu-Jitsu e o World Pro. No segundo, Ceconi é o atual campeão até 92kg.

“Quero muito lutar o Pan e estou me preparando para isso. Acredito que a minha categoria é como todas as outras, muito dura. Sendo assim, preciso de muito preparo para encarar todos os adversários. Quanto ao World Pro, ainda devo lutar alguma seletiva para tentar garantir os custos da viagem. Mas estou dentro, pois sou o atual campeão”, diz o aluno de Romulo Reis e Rilion Gracie.

Nesta correria, o faixa-preta ainda encontra tempo para o MMA, modalidade em que conta com duas vitórias e se mantém invicto. No entanto:

“No primeiro semestre vou me focar no Jiu-Jitsu, assim como no ano passado. Um passo de cada vez…”

Weight and open weight winner and big standout at the 2010 World Pro Claudio Calasans will see action at the San Diego qualifiers for the event. The Atos black belt is yet another beast confirmed to be there alongside Guilherme Mendes, Clark Gracie, Rodrigo Caporal and Joel Tudor, among others, at the event to take place March 5 and 6 at Point Loma High School.

February 28 is the cut-off for sign-ups for the event guaranteeing all-expenses-paid trips to thirteen winners of the adult division at April’s World Pro, as well as a ticket to Abu Dhabi for the No-Gi absolute winner.  Click here to find out more. It is worth remembering that only at the tryouts organized by Fernando Paradeda (Las Vegas, San Diego and Gramado) are there No-Gi, master, and juvenile divisions.

“I want to advise people that they should sign up quickly, as there’s great demand and space is limited. And also to avoid any confusion. Our event is going to take place March 5 and 6. There’s an ADCC qualifier coming up, but it has nothing to do with our organization,” explains Fernando Paradeda.

Campeão peso e absoluto, sendo o maior destaque do World Pro em 2010, Claudio Calsans estará em ação na seletiva de San Diego para o evento. O faixa-preta da Atos é mais uma fera confirmada ao lado de Guilherme Mendes, Clark Gracie, Rodrigo Caporal e Joel Tudor, entre outros, no evento que acontece nos dias 5 e 6 de março, no ginásio da Point Loma High School .

As inscrições para o evento, que garante os custos de 13 campeões do adulto para o World Pro, em abril, além de dar uma passagem para Abu Dhabi ao campeão do absoluto sem kimono, vão até o dia 28 de fevereiro. “Queria avisar ao pessoal para garantir logo a inscrição, pois estamos tendo grande procura e as vagas são limitadas. Além disso, para não se confundirem. Nosso evento é nos dias 5 e 6 de março. Há uma seletiva do ADCC em data próxima, mas não tem nada a ver com a nossa organização”, explica Fernando Paradeda.

Michael Langhi e Gilbert Durinho são, atualmente, dois dos principais nomes na categoria leve faixa-preta no Jiu-Jitsu. Langhi vem de vitória em dois Mundiais. Já o representante da Atos é o atual campeão do World Pro, entre outros títulos importantes como o brasileiro e o asiático.

No último sábado, na seletiva do Rio para o World Pro, os dois se encontraram numa nova final. Melhor para o atleta da Alliance, mas Durinho mostrou que está vivo, tendo escapado de golpes perigosos e perdido por apenas dois pontos.

Michael Langhi and Gilbert Durinho are, currently, the two biggest names in Jiu-Jitsu’s lightweight black belt division. Langhi is coming off wins at two World Championships, even beating Durinho in the final at the 2009 one. Now the Atos representative is the current World Pro champion, as well as holding other major titles, like the Brazilian Nationals and Asian Open.

Last Saturday at the Rio de Janeiro leg of the World Pro tryouts, the two met in the final yet again. The athlete from Alliance ended up with the win, but Durinho showed he’s got the good, having escaped from dangerous holds and only lost by two points.
