A fera mordeu primeiro o ouro no peso médio, ao bater Igor Mello (Nova União). Depois se jogou no absoluto e faturou mais uma medalha dourada, desta vez ao vencer Richard Bondoc (Atos) com um belo estrangulamento, com pouco mais de um minuto de peleja.

O Toronto Open de Jiu-Jitsu rolou no último sábado, dia 11 de outubro, no Canadá e presenteou a galera da América do Norte com grandes batalhas no tatame.

Entre as feras estava o mineiro faixa-preta Leonardo “Cascão” Saggioro (BTT), que mordeu dois ouros no torneio. Primeiro, bateu Igor Mello na final da categoria peso médio, e no absoluto venceu Richard Bondoc.

Na noite dessa quinta-feira, 16 de junho, o Brasil realizou um feito inédito nos Jogos Pan-Americanos de Toronto, no Canadá. Tudo graças ao esforço de uma guerreira que nunca desistiu, apesar de todas as dificuldades.

Com a vitória sobre a cubana Yakelin Estornell, Joice Silva, 31 anos, tornou-se a primeira campeã da história da luta olímpica no Brasil.

A carioca derrotou a cubana de virada, na categoria estilo livre até 58kg, após começar perdendo por 5 a 0. No fim da luta, que dura seis minutos, virou o jogo para 6 a 5, sem dar tempo para uma reação da adversária.

Joice precisou vencer duas lutas, contra a mexicana Alejandra Romero e a peruana Yanet Sovero, antes de chegar à final. Veja um pouco do estilo e da emoção da campeã, na hora do ouro.

Jorge Britto, head instructor of GMA Toronto BJJ, led his team to victory at the 2015 Canada National Pro Toronto at Seneca College in Toronto, Canada over the weekend. The event offered certain division winners a free travel package to compete at the 2015 Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship in late April.

The team represented Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu well, taking home four more travel packages to the event adding to the three they already earned at the Canada National Pro in Montreal back in November.

At blue belt, Meagan Curran won the female -65kg division, Sarah Scarr won the female +75kg division, and Adam Scratch won the male +75kg division.

At purple belt, Eric Phan won the male -65kg division and Nathan dos Santos won the male -85kg division both at the Montreal edition.

The brown and black belts were combined but brown belt Dainis Nguyen won the male -75kg division in Montreal and brown belt Jon-Taine Hall won the male +95kg division in Toronto.

Professor Jorge Britto and his students from Toronto BJJ, a proud Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu representative, including affiliates 905 BJJ, Stratford BJJ and MTC Windsor celebrated another year together with their 6th annual in-house tournament and belt promotions recently in Toronto, Canada.

Over 200 students of all ages and belt levels competed in the end-of-year tournament held on four mats with IBJJF rules that included special male and female no-gi divisions and a brown belt absolute division. For many it was their first time tasting competition and experiencing a real tournament. For others it was another chance to sharpen their skills in front of family and friends with familiar training partners.

To begin the event, the students from the kids and teens programs provided an impressive demonstration of traditional BJJ self-defense and modern BJJ.

Additionally, Toronto BJJ celebrated many promotions as students reached the next level in their BJJ journey. Most notably nine students, some of who are also instructors at Toronto BJJ, reached the level of black belt! The new black belts in Toronto are: Nathan Rector, Michael Zaniewski, Firdavs Sulaimonov, Mike Nomikos, Eyal Cinamon, Sandro Tucci, John Serio and Steve Ramos.

Furthermore, two students, Andrea Martyn and Nicolas received the Seana Rossi Award for their display of the warrior spirit in 2014. This award honors the legacy of student Seana who passed away in 2012 after a long fight with cancer and whose memory and spirit still inspires and motivates the team to this day. Seana’s parents alongside TBJJ Director Josh Rapport presented each award.

The academy also collected food donations for The Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto with a goal of collecting 1000 kg of contributions for the holiday season.

To finish the day the team surprised Professor Britto with a cake to combine the day’s celebration with his birthday. Keeping up with tradition, the group picture was captured and the party came to a close after another successful event was in the history books.

Today, July 25, is the last day to register for the 2014 IBJJF Toronto Open in Toronto, Ontario, CA. The registration deadline is officially at 11:59 p.m. PST.

The event will be hosted on August 2 at Ryerson University – Kerr Hall located at 350 Victoria Street Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5B 2K3.

Divisions from juvenile to maser 6, white to black. The cost is $115 per person.

This is a great event for the Canadians to compete in a high-level and professional atmosphere on their home turf.

This Saturday, July 5, the leaders of GMA Brazil-021 will be in Toronto, Canada for a seminar. Professors Andre Terencio and Hannette Staack are traveling Canada with their next stop in the capital of Ontario.

The seminar will be held at the Brazil-021 academy located at 652 Queen St. West, 2nd floor, Toronto, CA.

There will be two seminars: the first is the fundamentals from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the second will be the advanced from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. All ages, teams and affiliations are welcome.

Hannette celebrates the 2011 Worlds gold winning flying armbar

GMA member Hannette Staack is one of the most accomplished female competitors of all times in Jiu-Jitsu.

The co-leader of Brazil 021 is known for her acrobatic moves and technical skills. In this video, she teaches a flying armbar, the same she used to become the 2011 middleweight World champion, her 7th world title in the gi.
