Black-belt Rafael Lovato Jr. is going through another great stretch of his career. After winning double gold at the World Master Championship in August, Lovato was invited to do a superfight opposite Tanner Rice, a black-belt under Rubens Charles “Cobrinha,” at Fight to Win Pro 11, which took place last Saturday the 10th at the Cox Convention Center, in Oklahoma City. In the co-main event, Lovato was victorious as he caught Rice in a cross-collar choke.

The main event saw Ricardo Franjinha black-belt Jeff Glover defeat Justin Rader, who’s a black-belt under Lovato, by decision. In the night’s third most important bout, Lovato pupil James Puopolo caught Luis Rubricava in a cross-collar choke as well.

The IBJJF competition circuit made a stop this weekend in San Jose for two days of action both with and without the gi.

The 2016 San Jose Open gathered almost a thousand athletes at the SJ City College.

Tanner Rice was the standout in the black belt division, winning both the medium-heavy division and the open class.

Here is the open class final between Rice and Eliot Kelly.

In the female division, Patricia Fontes came back from a defeat to Kristina Barlaan in the featherweight division to win the open class against Leanna Dittrich.

In the no-gi divisions, the standout was Kim Terra, winner of the lightweight and the open class.

No NY Open de Jiu-Jitsu da IBJJF, a academia Alliance de Marcelo Garcia dominou os dois dias do evento, com e sem o kimono.

No primeiro dia, destaque para o guardeiro Tanner Rice, dono do título absoluto na faixa-preta, ao vencer Francisco Sinistro (Alliance). Tanner também ficou no topo do meio-pesado, depois de vencer Murilo Santana (Barbosa Jiu-Jitsu).

João foi ouro no pluma, enquanto seu irmão Paulo brilhou no pena, após vencer Gianni Grippo.

Outro destaque foi Jon Satava, que venceu a categoria médio, que também teve Kayron Gracie, que retornava após longos invernos. Tim Spriggs (Lloyd Irvin) foi campeão no pesado, e beliscou o bronze no absoluto.

No superpesado, destaque para Rodrigo Reis (Tanque JJ), que superou na final o faixa-preta Carlos Robson Gracie Filho, filho de mestre Robson e irmão de Renzo, Ralph e Ryan.

No NY Open de Jiu-Jitsu sem kimono, os holofotes foram para Gianni Grippo, magrinho ousado que venceu o absoluto faixa-preta. O atleta de Marcelinho ainda ficara no topo do pódio na divisão dos penas.

Day 1 of the 2015 New York Spring Open took place this Saturday, at the City College, in Manhattan.

In the adult black belt division, Tanner Rice claimed the most important title when he defeated Fernando Iturralde for the open class gold medal.

In the female division, the glory went to Alliance’s Dominyka Obelenyte, who beat Nyjah Easton for the open class title.

Once again the Kezar Pavillion by the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood was the stage for the San Francisco Open.

Over 500 athletes filled the venue for a whole day of thrilling competition.

Caio Terra’s Yuri Simões stood out in the crowd with a top level performance.

After getting the gold medal without having to compete in the super-heavy division, Yuri was hungry for action in the adult black belt open class.

He had three matches and all of them ended with the opponent tapping.

The first victim was Arnaldo Oliveira, caught with an armlock.

The second victim was Tanner Rice, who himself had a great performance against Rodrigo Freitas on the first round of the absolute.

In less than two minutes, Yuri got a takedown, passed Tanner’s guard, got the mount and finished with another armlock.

On the other side of the bracket, Darragh O’Connall beat Kim Terra, but them lost to Gianni Grippo.

Magid HageIV first beat Eliot Kelly with a sneaky armbar to get to the semifinal too.

Grippo and Magid battled a war of sweeps in the 50/50 to tie 4-4, leaving for the three referees to decide on the second finalist.

Two of them went for Magid.

The final was also a fast match, despite Hage being able to resist more than others.

He even had a nice omoplata in place for a second, but Yuri was able to defuse it and went about his business as usual.

He passed guard, mounted and choked Roger Gracie style.

In the weight divisions, results were:

Caio Terra got gold in the light-feather (no matches).

Kim Terra and Vitor Paschoal closed out the featherweight with Kim claiming the gold medal.

Gianni Grippo outscored Rodrigo Freitas 6-4 to win the lightweight.

Magid Hage IV used his trademark baseball choke to beat Josh Hinger in the middleweight.

Tanner Rice caught Ken Primola with an armbar to win the medium-heavy division.

Diego Herzog beat Eliot Kelly 4-0 for the heavyweight gold medal.

in the female division, only two competitors signed in – Charlene Coats and Amanda Loewen.

As in the middleweight division, Coats got the win with a 4-2 score.

In the teams competition, Ralph Gracie finished first with 214pts, followed by Caio Terra  with 193pts and Yemaso BJJ with 133pts.
