Atleta da Evolve, Rafael dos Anjos embarcou com tudo para Cingapura, onde fica a matriz do time. Durante o período na Ásia, o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu ensina MMA e aproveita para se recuperar da cirirgia na mandíbula, que acabou quebrada nos primeiros minutos da sua última luta no UFC, contra Clay Guida. Dos Anjos, que volta a lutar no início de 2011, partiu com a esposa e os dois filhos.

“Vamos ficar em Cingapura até o início do próximo ano, antes da minha próxima luta no UFC. Vou me atualizar com os melhores professores do mundo. Treinarei o meu Jiu-Jitsu com o professor Rafael Gordinho e todos os faixas-pretas. Também aproveito para afiar o meu muay thai com Kru Chatri Sityodtong e o resto da equipe Sityodtong. Com o treino na Evolve, acredito que possa me tornar campeão mundial entre os leves do UFC, que é o meu sonho”, comenta Rafael. 

A Evolve, representada no Brasil por Roberto Gordo, tem em Cingapura uma das academias mais bem estruturadas em todo o mundo. Com excelentes faixas-pretas de Jiu-Jitsu e treinadores de grandes campeões de muay thai, o time se destaca num país sem qualquer tradição com a luta. Now, Arthur Gogó should fight again in Singapore, where he won his last appearance, while Wendel Negão has two bouts scheduled in Brazil.

To bolster their prep work, the team received Thai trainer Kru Toy, the son of famed master Yotong Senan, who has produced a number of muay thai world champions. Sityodtong Camp, Kru Toy’s family’s training center, has been the training grounds of UFC fighters like Kenny Florian, Patrick Cote, Mark Dellagrotte and Stephan Bonnar, among others.

The foundations of Rio de Janeiro’s fight scene are about to be rattled, as Thailand’s legendary Sityodtong Muay Thai school is setting up shop at Gordo/Evolve academy.

Headed by the man known as the Godfather of modern muay thai, Kru (“teacher” in Thai) Yodtong Senanan, Sityodtong has produced more muay thai champions in Thailand than any other camp and is proven in MMA for such alumni as UFC fighters Kenny Florian, Patrick Cote, Mark Dellagrotte, and Stephan Bonnar, among others.

Following the lead of younger brother Rafael “Gordinho”, who has ten Sityodtong muay thai champions as full-time instructors at Evolve academy in Singapore, Roberto Gordo called on Kru Toy Sityodtong to help Rafael dos Anjos polish up his muay thai for his upcoming fight with Clay Guida at UFC 117.

Toy Sityodtong is the son of Grandmaster Yodtong Senanan himself, and the first Sityodtong master to visit Brazil. The move marks a new chapter in the story of Gordo/Evolve academy in MMA.
