Back in April of 2006, at Pride Bushido 10 in Tokyo, Paulão Filho took two rounds in overcoming Murilo Ninja by unanimous judges’ decision. This Thursday in Belém, Brazil, the triumph came a lot quicker, and amid more controversy.

The Carlson Gracie black belt went on the attack with a flurry of strikes that left his Southern Brazilian counterpart groggy in the first round. Ninja was then kneeling at Paulo’s knees when Mario Yamasaki called an end to the rematch. “So long as God Almighty lets me be here and I still have strength, I’ll keep fighting,” asserted Paulão just after dedicating the win to his father, Paulinho, who passed away this August 6. “Ninja was really groggy, and I could have continued to beat on him there, but if he wants another rematch we’ll do it no problem. He’s a great fighter. He’s done a lot for the sport too.”

In the other fights on the card, Bruno Cro Cop took a page out of his Croatian namesake’s book and three two knees at Marcio Parazinho that ended the outing in the second round, and Lincoln Sá relied on his takedowns to go to town with the ground and pound and take a unanimous decision over Joriedson Fein.

Em  abril de 2006, em Tóquio, pelo Pride Bushido 10, Paulão Filho precisou de dois rounds para vencer Murilo Ninja por decisão unânime dos jurados. Nesta quinta-feira, em Belém, o triunfo foi mais rápido, e mais controverso.

O faixa-preta de Carlson Gracie partiu para cima no primeiro assalto para acertar uma sequência de socos e deixar o curitibano grogue. Ninja estava ajoelhado nas pernas de Paulada quando Mario Yamasaki encerrou a revanche.”Enquanto Papai do Céu me deixar aqui e eu tiver forças, vou seguir lutando”, garantiu Paulão,  logo appapa vitória dedicada ao seu pai, seu Paulinho, falecido dia 6 de agosto. “O Ninja estava bem grogue e eu ia continuar castigando dali, mas se ele quiser nova revanche a gente faz, sem problema. Ele é um grande lutador, já fez muito pelo esporte também”.

Nas outras lutas, Bruno Cro Cop se inspirou no policial croata e soltou duas joelhadas em Marcio Parazinho para encerrar o embate no segundo giro, e o macaense Lincoln Sá usou e abusou das quedas, para trabalhar no ground and pound e garantir a vitória por decisão unânime sobre Joriedson Fein.

O lutador até 77kg Erick Silva (Minotauro Team) foi o grande vencedor de hoje em Belém do Pará, ao afivelar o cinturão do Jungle Fight by Ortobom.

Com duas finalizações na noite, Erick faturou o mini-GP e confessou, ao Premiere Combate: “Espero que tenha sido minha última luta no Brasil”.

Os trabalhos de Erick abriram com a vitória duríssima sobre Gil de Freitas, com uma guilhotina no terceiro assalto. Um chutaço na barriga conseguiu derrubar Gil antes, e o eventual campeão terminou o serviço no chão, mais precisamente no pescoço.

Na final, Erick encarou o mexicano Francisco Ayon, que após derrotar o argentino Fernando Martinez foi para o vestiário e a princípio declarou que não sabia que precisaria lutar novamente.

Desfeito o mal-entendido, Ayon se apresentou no ringue ao final, mas apenas para ser rapidamente despachado com um estrangulamento de Erick.

Outros destaques foram Ildemar Queixinho Marajó e Edilberto Crocotá, que saudou efusivamente o colega Shinzo Machida após finalizar o duro André Lobato. “Olha lá, o cara confundiu o Shinzo com o Lyoto”, ria alguém na plateia. Será? Com Crocotá e no Jungle, tudo pode acontecer.

Welterweight Erick Silva (Minotauro Team) was today’s big winner at Jungle Fight by Ortobom in Belém do Pará.

With two submissions on the night, Erick took the mini-GP and confessed to Brazil’s Premiere Combate channel: “I hope this was my last fight in Brazil.”

Erick’s day’s labor began with a hard-fought win over Gil de Freitas, winning by guillotine choke in the third round. First, a thudding kick to the belly dropped Gil, and the ultimate winner finished the business on the ground, ending it with snug neck tie.

The final had Erick up against Mexico’s Francisco Ayon, who after beating Argentine Fernando Martinez went straight to the dressing room and stated he had no idea he would have to fight again.

After the misunderstanding was cleared up, Ayon appeared in the ring for the final, but just to be quickly put away by an armbar from Erick.

Others of the night’s standouts were Queixinho Marajó and Edilberto Crocotá, who showered their colleague Shinzo Machida with ovation after he overcame a game André Lobato. “How about that, the guy confused Shinzo with Lyoto,” laughed someone in the stands. Could it be? With Crocotá and Jungle Fight, anything can happen.
