Duas feras do UFC mediram forças na segunda edição do Gracie Pro, que rola neste sábado, dia 28 de setembro, no Macaranãzinho. Campeões do Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu da IBJJF, os craques de luvinhas Gilbert “Durinho” e Serginho Moraes vestem seus respectivos kimonos para duelar no palco principal do evento.

Durinho, que estava designado a encarar Clark Gracie, viu seu adversário sair da luta por conta de uma lesão. Em seu lugar, Serginho Moraes assumiu a vaga. Serginho, embalado por uma finalização no UFC São Paulo, no último final de semana, o bicampeão da Alliance promete um show para os fãs e quer repetir o feito do UFC no Gracie Pro.

Bicampeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu e atleta do UFC, Serginho Moraes já tem data para voltar a atuar no maior evento de MMA do mundo.

Sem lutar desde abril deste ano, quando venceu Mickael Lebout no UFC Polônia, Serginho está com luta marcada para o dia 10 de dezembro, no UFC Fight Night: Namajunas x VanZant, em Las Vegas.

O brasileiro encara Omari Akhmedov, ao substituir o lesionado Lyman Good, adversário original de Omari.

Serginho (9v, 2d) vem de três sucesso seguidos no UFC, enquanto Omari (15v, 2d) vem de duas vitórias seguidas na organização.

In his latest appearance in the octagon, Serginho taught a class on how to apply the gentle art in the MMA environment.

In less than three minutes and a half, he brought Neil Magny to the ground, pass his guard, mounted and finished with a beautiful triangle.

The technique earned Moraes the “submission of the night” bonus and an extra $50,000.

Após o fim da partida, Mario Júnior, do time do Rio, empurrou o adversário Serginho na rede, e este ficou furibundo. Por sorte, o Jiu-Jitsu estava presente para conter as feras do vôlei. Serginho foi imobilizado pelo técnico cruzeirense Marcelo Mendes, que com sangue frio e destreza recorreu a imobilizações simples, como o cem-quilos, e acabou com a confusão. Veja como foi:

Two more would come in the two following years to complete his impressive list of five titles in the division, from 2004 to 2011.

But the third one was unique, once it was not decided on the mats, well, at least the final decision was not made on the mats, but on the stands.

After three fights to make it to the final, including a semifinal battle against 2007 world champion Lucas Leite, Marcelinho secured his spot.

On the other side, teammate Sergio Moraes, the 2008 champion, had another perfect campaign and defeated Alan Nascimento to reach the final.

So one last question was left. Who would be crowned the champion?

For such good friends and training partners to fight for the gold medal seemed unlikely to happen.

So under the eyes of Alliance’s leader Fábio Gurgel, the two friends decided to settle the dispute with a simple game, one would say a childish way (but in a good sense).

With one draw of Choosies (or odds & evens) and the champion was decided: Marcelinho.
