Do you remember when Jiu-Jitsu only cropped up in the news when some kid with gnarly ears would do something stupid? These days, things have changed, though, and the sport’s practitioners are being seen, more and more, as role models and formers of opinion.

That’s one of the assertions made in the latest issue of Brazil’s “VIP” magazine—whose editor Cláudia Lima happens to be an enthusiastic practitioner of Thai boxing. The reason: in the “Cuidados Pessoais” (“Personal Care”) section, on page 135, current absolute world champion Rodolfo Vieira, in the company of Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Cesar Cielo and tennis player Thomaz Belluci, opens the doors to his “dressing room” and reveals what he always carries in tote to keep up his hygiene.

The “superathlete” (the praiseful adjective is VIP’s) shows that his choices are as simple and efficient as his Jiu-Jitsu: Dove deodorant, Gillette shaving cream, Bozzano lotion, Carolina Herrera perfume, and a minty antiseptic to relieve any unpleasantness anyone who ventures an attack on his feet might encounter.

“I don’t use perfume every day, because I train every day and don’t want to waste it. I only use it when I go out,” explains Rodolfo in the article.

O motivo: na seção “Cuidados Pessoais”, na página 135, o atual campeão mundial absoluto Rodolfo Vieira, na companhia do medalhista olímpico Cesar Cielo e o tenista Thomaz Bellucci, abre seu “vestiário” e conta o que carrega sempre com ele para caprichar na higiene.

O “superatleta” (o elogio é da “Vip”) mostra que suas escolhas são simples e eficientes como seu Jiu-Jitsu: desodorante Dove, espuma Gillette, loção Bozzano, perfume Carolina Herrera e um antisséptico mentolado Baruel para aliviar quem se aventurar a atacá-lo na chave de pé.

“Não uso perfume todo dia, porque treino diariamente e não quero gastá-lo. Só uso quando vou sair”, explicou Rodolfo no artigo.

“The March issue of ‘Vip’ also highlights the five best fighters in the world in a number of categories,” reports Abril publishing’s website, referring to the article “Fighting’s superheroes.”

To avoid limiting itself to the hullabaloo surrounding Anderson Silva, the magazine went after another four aces from the fight world. After informally consulting the folks at GRACIEMAG.com, they elected Roger Gracie the best in Jiu-Jitsu. Now the Philippines’s Manny Pacquiao is the big name from boxing.

Todo casca-grossa vai querer botar as mãos na revista “Vip” deste mês. É que a suculenta e bem-humorada publicação vai além da musa da Globo Paloma Bernardi, “a nova princesa da TV” segundo a chamada de capa.

“A ‘Vip’ de março traz também os cinco melhores lutadores do mundo em várias categorias”, informa o site da editora Abril, referindo-se ao artigo “Os super-heróis da luta”.

Para não ficar apenas no badalado Anderson Silva, a revista foi atrás de outros quatro craques do mundo da luta. Com direito à consulta informal com o pessoal do GRACIEMAG.com, elegeram Roger Gracie o melhor do Jiu-Jitsu. Já o filipino Manny Pacquiao é o grande nome do boxe.
