The half guard is a move that can be a position of strength for both the bottom player and the top player. Some people use the half guard as their first choice in attacks and sweeps while others who end up in half guard on bottom are considered to be half passed.

As a top player, the half guard can mean that you’re almost passed and with the various ways in which people play the position, there are many ways to shut it down and pass.

O Chicago Open apresentou grandes batalhas de Jiu-Jitsu no solo de Ilinois, pela terceira vez este ano, no último sábado, dia 12 de outubro.

Faixa-preta da Gracie Barra, Philipe Della Monica foi o cara desta edição, vencendo não só no peso médio, mas também no absoluto.

Nos médios, Della Monica finalizou Zachary Lenon (ATT) comum armlock da guarda com pouco mais de um minuto.

Já no absoluto, Philipe encarou Nicholas Albin (Renato Tavares) e a disputa foi acirrada, mas Della Monica conseguiu se sagrar campeão nas vantagem, após a luta terminar em 2 a 2 (uma raspagem para cada lado).

The IBJJF bandwagon made another stop in the Windy City this Saturday, Oct. 12.

The 2013 Chicago Fall Open brought some high level Jiu-Jitsu to Illinois for the third time this year.

Gracie Barra’s black belt Philipe Della Monica was the stand out of the day, winning both the adult black belt middleweight and the open class divisions.

In the weight category, Della Monica managed to tap out Zachary Lenon (ATT) with an armbar from the guard in little over one minute.

The open class final put Della Monica in front of Nicholas Albin (Renato Tavares Association) and the match went the distance, with Philipe taking the gold on the advantages after a 2-2 tie on points (one sweep each).

The 2013 Chicago Fall Open ends the year for IBJJF tournaments in Chicago with its fourth championship to date this year. On Saturday, Oct. 12 the gi tournament will be held a Chicago State University starting at 9:30 a.m. with adult male blue belts.

Gearing up for its fourth edition in Chi-Town, the IBJJF has scheduled the 2013 Chicago Fall International Open for Saturday, Oct.12.

The venue is once again at the Chicago State University: 9501 South King Drive, Chicago, IL 60628.

Registration is extended until Sunday, Oct. 6 or until capacity is reached. Make sure to register before making confirmed travel arrangements.

Already signed up are athletes from all over representing Ecuador, England, California, Texas, Georgia, Missouri, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Illinois and more.

Don’t miss the chance to claim an international IBJJF gold medal before the year is up.
