Marcos “Santa Cruz” Oliveira fez das festas de fim de ano algo um pouco diferente. Como o faixa-preta tem a final do ADFC – evento de MMA que agita os Emirados Árabes – marcada para o mês de março, contra o russo Shamil Abdurahimov, em Abu Dhabi, evitou o descanso e embarcou para a Tailândia a fim de aprimorar a parte em pé da luta.

Ao seu lado partiu o colega de treinos no Emirates Team Oscar Junior, considerado o mais técnico do time no Jiu-Jitsu sem kimono.

“Viemos fazer um treino forte de muay thai, mas não poderia deixar de lado os treinos no chão. Daí trouxe o Oscar e também o Terorge, que vão me ajudando nisso.”

Oscar, campeão do último Asian Super Cup, conta que foi muito bem recebido no Tiger Muay Thai MMA Camp:

“O Ray Elbe é responsável pelo treino de MMA e foi muito receptivo, tendo promovido um seminário ministrado por mim no dia 24.”

Oscar promete para 2011 uma série de seminários nos EUA, Europa e Oriente Médio. Claro, após o ADFC. Até lá o compromisso maior serão os treinos do amigo Marcão.

Marcos “Santa Cruz” Oliveira’s end-of-the-year festivities were a bit different. As the black belt has the final of the ADFC – an MMA event shaking up the United Arab Emirates – coming up in the month of March against Russia’s Shamil Abdurahimov in Abu Dhabi, he put off taking rest and headed for Thailand to brush up on his striking game.

Along with him went Oscar Junior, his training partner on Emirates Team and considered the most technical No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu player on the team.

“We came to do some serious muay thai training, but I couldn’t forsake training on the ground. So I brought Oscar and Terorge, who are helping me with that.

Oscar, the winner of the last Asian Super Cup, says he was very well received at Tiger Muay Thai MMA Camp:

“Ray Elbe is responsible for MMA training and was very receptive, having promoted a seminar conducted by me on the 24th.”

Oscar promises a series of seminars in the USA, Europe, and Middle East for 2011. Following the ADFC, of course. Till then his greatest priority will be to helping his friend Marcão in training.

There’s nowhere in the world where the life of someone with special needs is easy, especially for a boy of 14. Hamad is crippled in his lower body, his legs and feet are mangled and the boy has suffered countless surgical procedures.

The whole implementation of Abu Dhabi’s School-Jitsu project begins by conquering the kids. The teachers need to inspire confidence before approaching technique. It’s not easy, since cultural barriers often turn into seemingly insurmountable obstacles. But love for and dedication to the job can let you overcome any obstacle and the reward for that is extremely gratifying.

Hamad was always in a bad mood, he’d walk the corridors of the school mumbling, was truly outraged, but destiny would have it that Jiu-Jitsu would take him in. On a certain morning, the boy decided to try out Oscar and Junior Angra’s class.

Both had solid experience with kids in Brazil, though they had only been a few months in the United Arab Emirates. But the Gentle Art is a formidable means of communication. Behold in the video that follows the perfect meeting between Jiu-Jitsu and Hamad Eissa. Yes, it’s the same boy who at the World Pro 2010 did a presentation for Sheikh Mohamad bin Zayed and ended up on the front pages of the country’s newspapers the next day, with the crown prince by his side.

Em nenhum lugar do mundo é fácil a vida de quem tem necessidades especiais, ademais pra um garoto de 14 anos. Hamad possui uma deficiencia nos órgãos inferiores, as pernas e os pés são retorcidos e o garoto já sofreu um incontável número de intervenções cirurgicas.

Todo processo para a implementação do projeto School-Jitsu nas escolas de  Abu Dhabi começa com a conquista das crianças. Os professores precisam fazer-se confiar antes de fazerem a abordagem técnica. Não é muito fácil, pois as barreiras culturais muitas vezes transformam-se em muralhas aparentemente intransponíveis. Mas o amor e dedicação por esse trabalho fazem você transpor qualquer obstáculo e a recompensa é extremamente gratificante.

Hamad vivia mau-humorado, passava pelos corredores da escola resmungando, era uma garoto extremamente revoltado, mas quis o destino que o Jiu-Jitsu o acolhesse. Numa certa manhã, o garoto resolveu experimentar as aulas de Oscar e do professor Junior Angra.

Ambos tinham uma boa experiência com crianças no Brasil, porém estavam poucos meses morando nos Emirados Árabes. Mas a arte suave é um meio de comunicação formidável. Sim, foi o mesmo garoto que no World Pro 2010 fez uma apresentação para o xeque Mohamad bin Zayed e terminou nas primeiras páginas dos jornais do dia seguinte, ao lado do príncipe herdeiro.
