After weeks of anticipation, the ADXC 4 is now officially completed. This Saturday, May 18th, some of the best competitors from Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling entered the merciless ADXC cage and fought tooth and nail to become the newest champions born at the Dojo de Paris, in the capital of France.

In the Grappling Main Event, the long-awaited duel between UFC powerhouses Benoit Saint Denis and Marc Diakiese gave fight fans everything they were hoping for and then some. Fighting in his homeland of France, Benoit used his grappling prowess to control the flow of the battle and emerge victorious in the ADXC cage. The fight almost ended quickly, with Benoit going for a neck attack and almost submitting in the very first round, but Diakiese’s top-notch defenses got him out of danger and kept the bout going, with many standing exchanges throughout the five rounds. But while Diakiese had some good moments, Benoit’s pressure was simply too much and the “God of War” left another foe in the dust, taking the win by unanimous decision and driving the crowd at the Dojo de Paris insane with the victory of their local champion.

Meanwhile, Espen Mathiesen spared no effort and is now a two-time champion of the ADXC. Fighting in the Jiu-Jitsu Main Event against France’s Leon Larman, the Norwegian athlete played to his strength and started the match by pulling and trying to use his berimbolo. Feeling the danger, Leon managed to avoid his opponent’s collar grips, but Espen spun and ended up in the foot. Going for the de la riva guard, Espen managed to get a better grip and got to the back, with Leon defending against the hooks but falling prey to a collar choke still in the first round.

The Grappling Co-Main Event brought another victory for Wales’ Ffion Davies in the ADXC. After sweeping from the closed guard and maintaining Morgan Black under complete pressure in the first round, Ffion finished the job in the following one. When the fighting started again, Ffion pulled Morgan into her guard, went up reaching the side, and quickly mounted, seizing her opponent’s arm and landing the winning armbar with a little over a minute on the clock.

In the Jiu-Jitsu Co-Main Event, Khaled Al Shehhi and Leonardo Mario found themselves evenly matched throughout the duel, which lasted five rounds of three minutes. Khaled started with a takedown, followed with a submission attempt and, when that didn’t work, used the single-leg to press Leonardo against the cage wall. Leonardo applied his pressure on Khaled’s guard, but the UAE powerhouse had a better run in the duel, using his technique to attack on top and even reach the side. When it was all said and done, Khaled had shown enough of his skills to convince the majority of the referees and conquer the title with a split decision.

While the Main and Co-Main Events were amazing in their own right, the ADXC 4 still had many impressive battles in its card. Check out below how the Main Card and Prelims Card matches went down!

Abdul-Kareem Al Sewady vs. Amin Ayoub

In another match-up between MMA athletes, Abdul-Kareem controlled the bout by putting pressure on Amin’s guard throughout the first two rounds, even managing to mount in the third round. Amin tried to attack with a guillotine, but Abdul-Kareem managed to avoid any danger and conquered the referees, who unanimously decided in favor of the “Pride of Palestine”.

Cassio Silva vs. Marko Oikarainen

In an intense rematch from the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Rome 2024, the French-based Brazilian Cassio Silva once again defeated Finland’s Marko Oikarainen. With triangle, arm, and omoplata attacks, Cassio was the most dangerous competitor, even if Marko’s solid defenses kept him safe and sound in all three rounds. At the end of the fight, Cassio tipped the scales even further in his favor with another dangerous attack, taking the win by unanimous decision.

Nathiely de Jesus vs. Elizabeth Mitrovic

A very balanced duel between Nathiely and Elizabeth. With an active guard and dangerous sweep attempts, Eliza used her long legs to her favor against Nathiely, who used her experience and pressure from the top to control the duel. Being more active in the bout, Nathiely tried to take the back and even attacked the arm, convincing the referees and getting the win by unanimous decision.

Nia Blackman vs. Magdalena Loska

A brown belt hailing from the UK, Nia Black showed her resolve as she sought to beat the Polish black belt Magdalena Loska. Starting with the upper hand after attacking with a loop choke and an omoplata, Magdalena kept herself active while Nia countered her foot attacks, with the latter almost taking the back on the second and third rounds. With better moves from the guard and almost taking the back, Nia convinced the majority of the referees and got the win via split decision.

Steven Ray vs. Ibrahima Mane

In a duel between MMA veterans, Steven Ray proved himself an accomplished grappler. In the fight against Ibrahima, Steven had the best moves in the first and second rounds, going for foot and guillotine attacks. In the third round, with both fighters still standing, Steven set up another guillotine, took the fight to the ground, and got the submission with 2:05 on the clock.

Youness Bennouali vs. Florian Bayili

A brown belt fighting in his home country of France, Youness had an interesting duel against the Belgian black belt Florian Bayili. Keeping steady on his feet, Youness controlled the match with some good takedowns and submission attempts following the takedowns. Meanwhile, Florian employed his guard from below, but by the time the match ended, Youness’ stamina and techniques were enough to convince the majority of the referees, who gave him the win via split decision.

Geovanny Martinez vs. Nicolas Renier

10th Planet’s Geo Martinez used his grappling experience to make quick work of Nicolas Renier in the ADXC 4. The duel started with Geo pulling Nicolas into his closed guard and then quickly spinning around to reach the legs, locking a lightning-fast heel hook in just 27 seconds of the very first round.

Kalim Mastouri vs. Luca Anacoreta

An intense match between Kalim and Luca heated up the Prelims. With both sides dishing out attacks throughout the three rounds of the duel, triangle chokes and leglocks were the name of the game here. One of the bout’s highlights happened in the third round when Kalim took Luca down with a collar drag and almost took the back, with the latter narrowly escaping the position. At the end of it all, the referees unanimously declared Kalim the winner.

Kasper Larsen vs. Alexander Alexandrov

Kasper Larsen maintained the pressure throughout the fight, using his weight and technique to attack Alexander’s half-guard in the first two rounds. In the third round, after pushing Alexander against the cage wall, Kasper got Alexander down and quickly went for the back without the hooks, spinning below and entering a twister before locking the rear naked choke to take the victory.

Shamma Al Kalbani vs. Lina Grosset

A well-balanced fight between purple belts Shamma Al Kalbani and Lina Grosset. With the former hailing from the UAE and the latter fighting in her home country of France, the first round saw both athletes exchanging foot attacks while the following one brought a little more movement, with reversals and guard passing attempts. The third and final round saw Lina putting a lot of pressure from the top, but Shamma dished out some sneaky attacks and, at the end of it all, managed to convince the majority of the referees, who gave her the win via split decision.

At 37, Ronaldo Jacaré is living the highest point in his MMA career. Nine of his last ten fights were won by him, and only one win came by decision. His last loss was a split decision versus Yoel Romero, and his last KO suffered was in 2008.

After having knocked out Vitor Belfort and subbing Boetsch, however, the BJJ world champion feels he hasn’t proven much in the UFC’s middleweight class. He recently talked to Brazilian cable show Revista Combate about this.

“In order to prove something in my category,” he said, “I need to win the 84kg belt, defend the belt properly, take on the best. But I know at the right time the title bout will come. And, when I get my shot, I won’t fail.”

Prompted by host Rhoodes Lima, Jacaré commentated his lighting-fast win against Tim Boetsch last Saturday.

“I had to win in that way; it was the only way to show everybody why he is No. 13 and I’m at the top of the class. I was so confident and well trained standing, and I knew that, when I took him to the ground, it would be the beginning of the end.

“Some people criticize me, think my boxing guard is too low, but at middleweight I’m the guy who is punched in the face the least, according to the UFC’s statistics. I believe that is the case because people are afraid to go to the ground with me, thanks to my BJJ, and so they move farther and hit me less. Another good reason is that I’ve been hitting harder and harder — the hand power is really good.”

Jacaré took the opportunity to also throw shade at the current middleweight champion, Michael Bisping.

“My division is a little jumbled up, all because Michael Bisping keeps coming up with fights. I want to fight GSP and then Chiquinho das Dores. In truth he’s running from the best in the category.

“I may do a fight with Luke Rockhold, if it is a main event. I want to see whether he can go five rounds with me; let’s see whether he’s tough. But I know he will run from me. When he fought me at Strikeforce, he showed up with a ref and judges who were his buddies, and I lost by decision. I was robbed by his judge friend.”

Aos 37 anos, o capixaba radicado em Manaus Ronaldo Jacaré (24v, 4d) vive seu ápice no esporte. Em suas últimas dez lutas, foram nove vitórias. Destas nove, apenas uma via decisão, em 2014, contra Francis Carmont. Sua última derrota, contestada, para o cubano Yoel Romero, foi por decisão dividida – Jacaré não perde por nocaute desde 2008.

Após nocautear Vitor Belfort e finalizar Tim Boetsch, o campeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu sente porém que ainda não provou muita coisa no peso médio do UFC, e falou sobre sua situação no evento, ontem no programa “Revista Combate”, no canal Combate da Globosat. O bate-papo alternou conversas sérias e momentos de bom humor.

A sério, Jaca respondeu:

“Ainda não provei muita coisa na minha categoria. Para provar, preciso ganhar o cinturão até 84kg, defender bem o cinturão, enfrentar os melhores. Mas sei que no tempo certo a luta pelo título vai chegar. E quando tiver a minha chance, não vou falhar”, garantiu aos fãs.

Jacaré, em resposta ao apresentador Rhoodes Lima, analisou sua vitória fulminante no último sábado, contra o americano Tim Boetsch (20v, 11d), conhecido pela mão pesada.

“Eu tinha de vencer daquele modo, era o único jeito de mostrar a todos por que ele é o 13º do ranking e eu sou o top da categoria. Eu estava confiante e bem treinado em pé e sabia que quando o levasse para chão seria o início do fim”, disse Jaca, que aproveitou para fazer uma análise de seu jogo em pé.

“Algumas pessoas me criticam, acham que minha guarda do boxe fica muito baixa, mas no peso médio eu sou o cara que é menos acertado por golpes no rosto, segundo as estatísticas do UFC”, destacou o faixa-preta. “Acredito que isso se dê porque o pessoal tem receio de ir para o chão comigo, graças ao meu Jiu-Jitsu, e por isso se afastam mais e me batem menos. Outro motivo é que estou batendo cada vez mais forte, a potência das mãos está boa.”

Entre risos, Jacaré voltou a criticar o atual campeão dos médios, Michael Bisping. “Minha divisão está meio enrolada, tudo porque o Bisping fica inventando luta. Quer enfrentar o GSP, depois quer lutar contra o Chiquinho das Dores… Na verdade ele está apenas fugindo dos melhores da categoria”.

Jaca admitiu fazer mais uma luta antes de encarar o campeão pelo cinturão. “Posso fazer uma luta com o Luke Rockhold, se for um main event. Quero ver se ele aguenta cinco rounds comigo, vamos ver se é macho. Mas sei que ele vai fugir de mim. Quando ele lutou comigo no Strikeforce (em 2011), ele apareceu com um juiz e jurados amigos e perdi na decisão. Fui garfado pelo juiz amigo”, provocou Jacaré, para risos de Kyra Gracie e demais entrevistadores do Combate.

A faixa-preta Ronda Rousey não para de impressionar os fãs do UFC. No último sábado, a beldade despachou a desafiante Cat Zingano em segundos, para se tornar a campeã com a defesa de títulos mais rápida da história do Octagon.

Mais qual é o feitiço de Ronda, a espécie de mágica que a torna tão especial? A equipe GRACIEMAG foi tentar descobrir, em papo com o professor Flávio Canto, fundador do projeto Reação, e ele também um especialista tanto em derrubadas como em armlocks. Confira!

GRACIEMAG: Qual foi o detalhe da chave de braço de Ronda que mais chamou sua atenção?

FLÁVIO CANTO: A velocidade de transição da Ronda é o que faz dela uma atleta tão especial. Não basta ter um bom chão, é fundamental saber lutar num momento em que a maioria dos atletas não age. No judô você está sempre correndo contra o tempo. Alguns segundos sem objetividade e o juiz interrompe a luta e obriga a voltar em pé. O dinamismo dela vem daí. Passou a vida lutando contra o tempo e aprendeu a aproveitar cada pequena oportunidade, em especial naquele rápido instante entre o “em pé” e o “solo”. Por isso ela é espetacular.

Ela quase caiu por baixo no primeiro instante da luta. Aquela capotada da Ronda é comum para vocês?

Bastante. É uma posição que eu também fazia muito nos treinos de judô. Ela adaptou de forma majestosa ao MMA.

Cat Zingano errou ao se afobar e partir com tudo para cima da atual campeã peso-galo, na sua visão?

Sem dúvida a Cat fez uma besteira. Ela fala muito que não se preocupa com estratégia, que só pensa no que vai fazer quando sobe no octógono. Depois dessa derrota ela vai ter de rever esse conceito. Ela foi para cima com tudo e justamente na “praia” da Ronda. Já chegou abraçando e tentando derrubar. Sua afobação custou caro. Muito coração e pouca cabeça contra uma atleta superior como a Ronda é fatal.

O veterano não quer saber de moleza. Sem entrar no Octagon há mais de um ano, Rogério “Minotouro” Nogueira, de 37 anos, topou o desafio de encarar ninguém menos que Anthony Johson (17v, 4d), o temido nocauteador americano.

O combate será no UFC on Fox 12, no dia 26 de julho em San Jose, Califórnia, ainda sem nenhuma outra luta anunciada. A informação é da FoxSports.

Apesar de ter passado um tempo no estaleiro, Minotouro (21v, 5d) vem de vitória, ao domar Rashad Evans no UFC 156 (Aldo x Edgar), onde prevaleceu por decisão unânime ao cabo de três assaltos.

O casamento da luta, no entanto, não lhe parece ser favorável. Rogério, em 2011, foi derrotado pelo mesmo Phil Davis (decisão) que Anthony Johnson castigou no último dia 26 de abril. É mais um desafio e tanto para Minotouro, faixa-preta que em outros tempos já bateu Dan Henderson, Kazushi Sakuraba e Alistair Overeem.

Por meio de sua conta no Twitter, o ex-campeão dos pesos pesados de boxe Muhammad Ali (56v, 5d) mandou, esta semana, uma mensagem capaz de mexer com o presidente do UFC, Dana White.

O perfil do pugilista na rede social postou uma foto de sua clássica disputa de estilos com o pro-wrestler Antonio Inoki, em 1976 no Japão. Mitos em seus respectivos países à época, Inoki e Ali fizeram uma luta sem muita ação, em que cada um tentou puxar o oponente para sua área.

“O que você acha, @DanaWhite? Muhammad Ali, o lutador original de MMA?”, postou Ali.

“Muhammad Ali, o senhor sempre foi original em tudo! Você é a razão de todos os esportes de combate estarem onde estão hoje. Melhor mensagem que já recebi, me sinto honrado”, respondeu White, um ex-lutador de boxe amador e fã declarado de Ali.

Medalhista de ouro em 1960 e tricampeão mundial dos pesos pesados (1964, 1974 e 1978), Ali está com 72 anos.

O duelo, que se tornou um clássico do MMA, foi a luta principal do evento, mas contou com apenas três rounds. Com ritmo ditado pelo brasileiro no solo, o tempero ficou com as belas raspagens do aluno de Ricardo De la Riva. Confira:

Realizado na manhã de hoje (horário de Brasília), o UFC Fight Night de número 37 foi um evento para chinês ver e aplaudir.

Com quatro lutadores da China, dois sul-coreanos, dois japoneses e um filipino, o Octagon montado em Macau teve como destaque o vencedor da luta principal, Dong Hyun Kim (19v, 2d). O peso meio-médio encerrou o evento com uma bonita cotovelada rodada no rosto do inglês John Hathaway, que caiu apagado a 1min02s do terceiro assalto. Kim parecia estar vencendo a luta nas duas primeiras etapas.

Em outubro, o astro sul-coreano lutou no Brasil, quando nocauteou a promessa Erick Silva, no UFC em Barueri e conquistou o nocaute da noite. Prova de que o faixa-preta de judô, também bom no kickboxing, sabe derrubar. Kim perdeu apenas duas lutas como profissional: para Carlos Condit e Demian Maia.

O sul-coreano participou, ainda, do ADCC em Pequim, quando perdeu para Romulo Barral na categoria até 88kg.

No fim das contas, em oito lutas do UFC Fight Night, nenhuma terminou por finalização na terra do kung fu.
