Lista fechada para o ADCC 2017, evento que rola neste final de semana, nos dias 23 e 24 de setembro, em Helsinque, na Finlândia. Após o entra e sai de atletas por conta de lesões e outros contratempos, a lista definitiva foi divulgada nesta quinta-feira, dia 21, e traz algumas surpresas.

Além da adição de última hora de Jackson Sousa, faixa-preta da Checkmat que assume a vaga restante na divisão até 99kg, no lugar do companheiro de equipe Luiz Panza, um jovem atleta americano entra para a disputa e já faz história no torneio.

Nicky Ryan, aluno de John Danaher na academia de Renzo Gracie, em Nova York, assume o último espaço na lista até 66kg. O detalhe a ser observado, porém, são os 16 anos de idade que a fera possui, que o torna o competidor mais jovem da história do ADCC.

Antes de Nicky, outro nome estava escalado para conquistar o mesmo recorde. Elisabeth Clay, vencedora da seletiva do ADCC e também de 16 anos, teve que sair da competição após se lesionar.

Nicky, irmão de Gordon Ryan, atleta que compete na divisão até 88kg, viajou para a Finlândia para acompanhar os integrantes da sua equipe e com a esperança de ter uma vaga no torneio. Com a saída de Justin Rader, o lugar ficou livre para Nicky assumir e batalhar pelo ouro com outros craques da divisão.

Felipe Preguiça vs Gordon Ryan. Luca Atalla

The duel between Felipe Pena “Preguiça” and Gordon Ryan, one of the big talents of the new generation, was surrounded with great expectations. Two of the biggest talents of the competition scene, they were face to face on December 17 at Studio 540, in Solana Beach, Calif. In a one-hour, no-gi, submission-only match, Pena took a half-hour to take Gordon’s back and sink a rear naked choke.

Pena repeled every one of Ryan’s leg attacks, passed the guard twice and took the back a couple of times. Eventually he took the back and finished.

“I’m very happy,” he told Graciemag. “It was a one-hour fight, and I had never fought like that. But I trained a lot for it. Little by little I gained confidence. When he locked the attacks I was able to get out, and the finish was a house specialty with the back-take.”

Along with Ryan, another member of the Danaher Death Squad in action was Garry Lee. He faced Kim Terra and came out with a submission 15 minutes in.

The first bout of the evening pitted Ryan’s brother Nicky Ryan against Kennedy Maciel, Son of four-time BJJ world champion Charles Cobrinha. It went into overtime, and Kennedy won with a triangle.
