You may not have heard much about Alliance superstar Michel Langhi, but today the young black belt is 22 years old. Brother to Michael Langhi, he avoids remaining in any sort of shadow by accomplishing great feats himself with his very own style and accomplishments.

He won the World Championship three times at belts blue, purple, brown and also won the Pan American and Brazilian Nationals three times. His active guard is one of the best of the featherweights and he is only the second person to be promoted to black belt under Rubens Cobrinha Charles.

Happy birthday to Michel.

In a recent article on GRACIEMAG.com, revelation Michel Langhi celebrated his world title at brown belt and accepted the possibility of being promoted to black. And that’s just what happened. Still in California, Little Langhi received his new belt from the hands of Rubens Cobrinha, a GMA of ours.

Now the Alliance representative, besides his double celebrations, is getting ready to soar even higher, against Jiu-Jitsu’s greats.

“For sure it was the best trip of my life! After getting the finish in all four of my matches at the Worlds and closing out my division with my teammate, today I got my black belt from the hands of Rubens Charles “Cobrinha Maciel! It’s an honor to get the promotion from someone who’s my idol and friend! Osssssss!” posted Little Langhi on his Facebook page.

Em matéria recente no GRACIEMAG.com, a revelação Michel Langhi comemorava o título mundial na faixa-marrom e não descartava a possibilidade de receber a faixa-preta. E foi exatamente o que aconteceu. Ainda na Califórnia, Langhinho recebeu a nova graduação das mãos de Rubens Cobrinha, nosso GMA.

Agora o representante da Alliance, além de comemorar duplamente, se prepara para voos mais altos contra os grandes do Jiu-Jitsu.

“Com certeza é a melhor viagem da minha vida! Depois de finalizar as quatro lutas no Mundial e fechar a categoria com o meu companheiro de equipe, hoje ganhei a faixa-preta das mãos do Rubens Charles Maciel “Cobrinha”! Uma honra para mim recebê-la das mãos de uma pessoa que é um ídolo e amigo! Ossssssssssss!”, postou Langhinho no seu Facebook.

GRACIEMAG.com fearlessly put its chips on Michel Langhi to be one of the standouts of the 2011 season. The brown belt lived up to the billing. Slowly but surely, Little Langhi is getting out from his older brother Michael’s shadow and making a name for himself in competition Jiu-Jitsu. At this season’s Worlds the Alliance rep got the finish in every single one of his matches in the featherweight division.

“I had four matches and closed out the final with Macarrão (Jonathan Thomas). We closed out this year’s Pan and the Pan and Worlds in 2009. I got the tapout in every one of my matches. The first was an armbar, the second and third were chokes, and the fourth was a footlock. I managed to push the pace, thank God,” he recounts.

The fighter already won two world titles at blue belt, on at purple, and now he’s come up with another at brown. Will there be time for him to get another at his current rank, or is there a black belt looming in his near future?

“I don’t know if black is coming up, but I’m not at all concerned about that. I’m going to keep plugging away in training so I’ll be prepared to hold my own when it does come. That’s what matters. My dream is to become a world champion at black belt and I feel that’s every fighter’s dream. It’s at black belt that every meets up and there’s nowhere to run. Any mistake is deadly, they’ll get you.”

Keen to the possibilities, Little Langhi was attentive to the contest at the highest rank, and he liked what he saw.

“Starting with the quarterfinals, all the matches were worth watching. They’re great athletes, all of them with what it takes to be champion. I watched on and really enjoyed the competition, it was real cool,” he says in finishing.

GRACIEMAG.com não teve medo de apostar em Michel Langhi como um dos candidatos a destaque na temporada 2011. E o faixa-marrom está correspondendo. Aos poucos, Langhinho sai da sombra do irmão mais velho, Michael, e se consolida no Jiu-Jitsu competitivo. No Mundial desta temporada, o representante da Alliance finalizou todas as lutas no peso pena.

“Fiz quatro lutas e fechei na final com o Macarrão (Jonathan Thomas). Já fechamos no Pan deste ano e no Pan e Mundial de 2009. Finalizei as quatro lutas que fiz. A primeira com uma chave de braço, a segunda e terceira com estrangulamento e a quarta com uma chave de pé. Consegui impor o ritmo, graças a Deuas”, comenta.

O lutador já faturou dois títulos mundiais na faixa-azul, um na roxa e agora este na marrom. Mas será que vai ter tempo para outro na graduação ou a faixa-preta vem por aí?

“Não sei se vem a preta, mas nem me preocupo com isso. Vou continuar treinando forte para quando ela vier eu estar preparado para fazer frente. Isso é o que importa. Meu sonho é ser campeão mundial na preta e acho que é o de todo lutador. É a faixa onde todos se encontram e não tem para onde correr. Qualquer erro é crucial, o bicho pega.”

Atento às possibilidades, Langhinho ficou de olho nas disputas da principal graduação, e gostou do que viu.

“Desde as quartas-de-final, todas as lutas chamaram a atenção. São muitos atletas bons, todos em condição de ser campeões. Fiquei de olho e gostei muito da competição, foi bem legal!”, encerra.

Further proof of how Jiu-Jitsu is becoming an ever more global sport, the absolute brown belt title went to Denmark. CheckMat rep Alexander Trans took the absolute gold after winning the decider against José Carlos, a Juarez Soares student and GFTeam representative.

Besides winning the absolute and ultraheavyweight division at the Worlds, this year Trans also won at weight and open weight at the European Open, Pan and his weight class at the Brazilian Nationals, where he sat out the open. Find out more clicking here.

Further standouts at brown belt were João Gabriel, who won the heavyweight division and took third in the absolute, and Michel Langhi, winner of the featherweight division.

Mostra de que o Jiu-Jitsu está a cada dia mais globalizado, o absoluto faixa-marrom foi para a Dinamarca. Alexander Trans, da CheckMat, levou o ouro no absoluto após derrotar na decisão a pedreira José Carlos, aluno de Juarez Soares e representante da GFTeam.

Além do absoluto e a vitória no pesadíssimo no Mundial, neste ano Trans também ganhou peso e absoluto no Europeu, Pan e peso no Brasileiro, onde ficou fora da categoria aberta. Saiba mais sobre a fera clicando aqui.

The prospects and latest standouts to join the scene GRACIEMAG.com tipped to make waves in 2011 (refresh you memory here) are getting set for the biggest test of the season: the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship about to get underway this Thursday in Long Beach, California.

“I’m well trained and I’ve got my head in an excellent place. I hope it all works out. I want to thank everyone for the encouragement I’ve been getting; I hope to pay you all back at the championship!” brown belt João Gabriel said over Facebook just before embarking on his flight to Los Angeles.

João is one of the many who have lived up to the predictions posted on this website. In May, the Soul Fighters whiz won weight and absolute at the Brazilian Nationals. There are, however, a number of other star-material prospects who’ve been on a tear, and they’ll be at the pyramid, too.

Nova União rep Marcio André is also on his way to California, as is Atos’s Denílson Bishiliari, who is now a purple belt. From the USA, Christian Broadnax and Mackenzie Dern will add further spice to the mix. At brown belt, Michel Langhi is yet another we put our chips on, as is black belt Antonio Carlos “Cara de Sapato”, who will have his work cut out for him in the heavyweight division.

Add to them promising up-and-comers like dynamic purple belt duo Paulo and João Mayao… In a nutshell, the 2011 Worlds promises fireworks at every belt level. And the time to prove who’s here to stay is now.

Apontados pelo GRACIEMAG.com como candidatos a novos destaques em 2011 (lembre aqui), as feras já se preparam para o grande teste da temporada, o Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu, que tem início nesta quinta-feira, em Long Beach, Califórnia.
“Estou muito bem treinado e a cabeça está ótima. Tomara que de tudo certo . Obrigado a todos pelo treinamento e pela moral, espero poder retribuir isso a vocês lá no campeonato!”, postou no Facebook o faixa-marrom João Gabriel, pouco antes de embarcar para Los Angeles.

João é um dos tantos que confirmam nesta temporada as apostas deste site. Em maio, a fera da Soul Fighters venceu peso e absoluto no Brasileiro de Jiu-Jitsu. No entanto, outros candidatos a ídolo, que vêm fazendo bonito, estarão em ação na Pirâmide.

A fera da Nova União Marcio André também já embarcou e Denílson Bischiliari, da Atos, também está confirmado, agora na faixa-roxa. Pelos Estados Unidos Christian Broadnax e Mackenzie Dern engrossam o caldo. Na faixa-marrom, Michel Langhi também foi uma das nossas apostas, assim como o faixa-preta Antonio Carlos “Cara de Sapato”, que vai ter vida dura entre os pesos pesados.

Junte aí outros novos talentos como a dupla da faixa-roxa Paulo e João Mayao… Enfim, o Mundial 2011 promete emoção em todas as graduações. E essa é a hora de provar quem veio para ficar.

The grand champion brown belt of the 2011 Pan was Alexander Trans. The CheckMat whiz took first at ultraheavyweight and open weight. Trans has been on a roll this season, having won his weight group and the absolute at the European Championship as well.

Also among the competition’s standouts are Alliance duo Jonathan Thomas and Michel Langhi, who closed out the featherweight division.

At lightweight, Roberto Satoshi carries on reaping great results, beating the hard-nosed Thiago Gaia in the final.

James Harbison won the middleweight final against Alex Baulding, one of the favorites.

Other brown belt champions were Jeff Bourgeois, at roosterweight; Mark Ramos, at light featherweight; Daniel O’Brien, at medium heavyweight; and James Puopolo, at heavyweight.

Na faixa-marrom, o grande campeão no Pan 2011 foi Alexander Trans. A fera da CheckMat ficou em primeiro no pesadíssimo e no absoluto. Trans vem mandando bem na temporada, tendo sido campeão peso e absoluto também no Europeu.

Também entre os destaques na competição, a dupla da Alliance Jonothan Thomas e Michel Langhi fecharam no peso pena.

No leve, Roberto Satoshi segue com grandes resultados, tendo batido a pedreira Thiago Gaia na final.

James Harbison, no médio, venceu a final contra Alec Baulding, um dos favoritos.

Outros campeões na faixa-marrom foram Jeff Bourgeois, no galo; Mark Ramos, no pluma; Daniel O’Brien, no meio-pesado; e James Puopolo, no pesado.

10 – Marcio André

O garoto é uma das crias de Fabio Andrade no projeto que comanda em Bangu, no Rio de Janeiro. Ainda juvenil, Marcio vem derrotando todos os adversários em grandes torneios como o Brasileiro de Jiu-Jitsu, em que foi campeão absoluto, e no Brasileiro de Equipes, entre outros eventos. A jovem promessa da Nova União também se classificou ao World Pro, na seletiva disputada no Rio de Janeiro, contra adversários da categoria adulto.

9 – Denílson Bischiliari

O peso pluma da Atos costuma chegar bem no pódio em todas as competições que participa. No fim de 2010, em Natal, garantiu vaga ao Abu Dhabi World Pro na faixa-azul. Mais uma fera saindo do “caldeirão” em Rio Claro?

8 – Christian Broadnax

Pupilo do nosso GMA Gustavo Dantas na Nova União Arizona, Christian Broadnax deve manter os títulos na faixa-roxa. No último Pan de Jiu-Jitsu, quando ainda era azul, faturou peso e absoluto. Ao seu lado, também deve vir bem Christopher Broadnax, irmão gêmeo, também campeão no Pan 2010.

7 – Mackenzie Dern

Filha de peixe, peixinho é. É o que vem provando Mackenzie Dern, que tem como pai o faixa-preta Wellington Megaton. Ainda na faixa-azul, Mackenzie venceu, entre tantos eventos, o Campeonato Mundial. No mesmo torneio, a peso pena ficou em segundo no absoluto. Já na roxa, Dern mostrou que faz frente até contra as faixas-pretas, sendo batida apenas pela experiente Michelle Nicolini na seletiva para o World Pro, em Lisboa.

6 – Marcelo Tarso

Graduado à faixa-roxa recentemente pelo mestre Guto Campos, Marcelo Tarso é o atual campeão mundial na faixa-azul super-pesado. Em 2010, também foi bem no World Pro, com o segundo posto. Outro que deve dar trabalho na nova graduação.

Fera treinada por Fabio Gurgel, Mateus venceu em 2010 Mundial, Pan e World Pro na faixa-azul. O peso pena divide apartamento em São Paulo com feras como o também campeão mundial Bernardo Faria, onde montam um dojô e praticam posições. Mais um motivo para apostar no garoto.

4 – Lucas Rocha

O pupilo de Zé Radiola na Gracie Barra-PE se destacou em todas as faixas, tendo sido campeão mundial em 2009, entre os roxas. Neste ano, tem tudo para se firmar de vez na faixa-marrom. Sua grande vontade é repetir o feito do companheiro Otávio Souza e faturar o absoluto no Mundial.

Irmão mais novo do bicampeão mundial faixa-preta Michael Langhi, Langhinho não tem apenas o nome parecido com o do mano. O representante da Alliance também tem o Jiu-Jitsu afiado. Além de ter se destacado em todas as graduações, venceu em 2010 eventos como o Campeonato Brasileiro, já na faixa-marrom. Acabou derrotado no Mundial pelo rival Ary Farias, mas tem tudo para abocanhar o título neste ano.

2 – João Gabriel

O faixa-marrom da Soul Fighters venceu na faixa-roxa o Pan e também foi campeão Brasileiro. Graduado à  marrom, já deu trabalho até aos pretas, em eventos como a seletiva do Rio para o World Pro, neste vice no absoluto, derrotado apenas por Rodolfo Vieira.

O paraibano da CheckMat conquistou diversas medalhas em todas as graduações. No ano passado, ainda de marrom, fechou peso e absoluto com o companheiro Marcus Bochecha tanto no Mundial como no Brasileiro. Ganhou a faixa-preta do mestre Helder Bob Sponja no pódio da seletiva de Natal para o World Pro, depois de finalizar oponentes mais graduados. Olho vivo nesta fera!
