The stars of the 2012 Jiu-Jitsu season didn’t just make a splash in their gis. They made some major noise in No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, a style unto itself, as well, leaving fans’ jaws agape for the poetry-like elegance of their work on the mat.

Os astros da temporada 2012 do Jiu-Jitsu não vestiram apenas o tradicional paletó. Nas competições sem kimono, hoje uma modalidade à parte, as feras do esporte fizeram barulho –  e deixaram muitos fãs de boca aberta com lutas excepcionais.

The champion of the ADCC 2003 absolute division and ADCC 2011 under-99 kg division who formerly fought in the UFC, Dean Lister recently taught an instructive and upbeat seminar in Paris, France.

The limber and scholarly fighter shared his arsenal of techniques, such as his lethal heelhooks, with the students.

Note how he places a foot below the leg that is not being attacked. This keeps his opponent from rolling out.

Also worth checking out, at minute 3:30, Lister teaches a slick double attack, for when opponent tries defending his foot by grabbing behind the neck.

Ouro absoluto no ADCC 2003 e campeão até 99kg no ADCC 2011, o ex-lutador do UFC Dean Lister deu recentemente um instrutivo e bem-humorado seminário em Paris, a capital francesa.

Lutador alongado e estudioso, Dean dividiu com os alunos seu arsenal de técnicas, como uma de suas letais chaves de calcanhar.

Note que ele coloca um dos pés embaixo do joelho da perna que não está sendo atacada. Isso impede o rolamento do adversário. Aí é arrochar mão com mão e comemorar.

Repare também, aos 3min30s do vídeo, um belo ataque duplo no braço ensinado por Lister, para aquela ocasião em que o oponente tenta defender o pé catando a nuca.

“We had four Gracies in the same dressing room. That was fantastic. But on the other hand all the other fighters there were students of Gracies. André Galvão also comes from Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. We’re all connected.”

Não faltou emoção nem polêmica na primeira edição do Metamoris Pro, torneio de lutas casadas de Jiu-Jitsu realizado domingo em San Diego. Empates eletrizantes, vitórias arrebatadoras e até algumas provocações nas entrevistas pós evento, como André Galvão e Ryron Gracie, que empataram após 20 minutos.

“O Ryron veio para amarrar enquanto eu lutei para ganhar”, reclamou André Galvão, que tomou uma vaia dos alunos do Gracie.

“Eu apenas provei o quão é eficiente meu Jiu-Jitsu quando se trata de autodefesa”, disse Ryron.

The maiden installment of Metamoris Pro was chock full of excitement, with superfights rocking the stands last Sunday in San Diego, California. Thrilling draws, resounding wins and even an exchange of provocations after the event, when André Galvão and Ryron Gracie had different takes on the significance of their having fought to a draw.

“Ryron came to draw; I came to win,” complained André Galvão.

“I proved how effective my Jiu-Jitsu is when it comes to self-defense,” Ryron argued back.

The half-guard is a weapon oft-used in competition Jiu-Jitsu these days, and it can come in handy for lighter fighters wishing to flip sides with heavier and stronger fighters perched atop them.

In today’s video, GRACIEMAG.com features a position by Professor Eduardo Castro showing how to sweep from half-guard and smoothly finish with the arm-triangle.

“When the opponent raises his right knee to start passing, you should begin the sweep. Put the foot that is under the right knee on his left thigh. Use the hook of your left foot as though going for a de la Riva guard sweep and push his left leg with your right leg,” Eduardo explains.

“The opponent will want to get up to not be swept, and it’s at this moment that you switch hooks. The opponent will generally try and go for the arm. Grab his arm, put his elbow on the ground and remove your head. Grab behind his neck to trap him, kick his leg back and turn the body, sinking the hold,” he teaches.

A meia-guarda é hoje uma arma em evidência total no Jiu-Jitsu de competição, e pode ser muito útil para pesos leves que precisam inverter a posição contra parceiros de treino mais pesados e fortes.

No vídeo de hoje, o GRACIEMAG.com traz uma posição do professor Eduardo Castro, que mostra como raspar da meia-guarda e finalizar com suavidade no triângulo de mão.

“Quando o adversário levantar o joelho direito para começar a trabalhar a passagem, inicie a raspagem. Ponha o pé que está embaixo do joelho direito dele na coxa esquerda dele. Entre com o gancho da sua perna esquerda como se fosse raspar com a guarda De La Riva, e empurre a perna esquerda dele com o pé direito”, Eduardo explica.

“O adversário vai querer subir para não ser raspado, e é neste momento que você troca o gancho. O adversário geralmente vai tentar sair para pegar o braço. Domine o braço, ponha o cotovelo dele no chão e tire sua cabeça. Abrace então a nunca dele para prendê-lo, chute a perna dele para trás e vire o corpo, encaixando o golpe”, ensina.
