GMA medalists in Melbourne

The IBJJF is dead serious about taking Jiu-Jitsu to every corner of the world.

This weekend, they held a flawless Melbourne International Open.

And, as usual, many GMA member academies took their students to compete.

Minol Tavares, from Equipe Master Wilson, was the open class and meddium heavy black belt master champion.

Tavares’ students also did great.

Black belt Paul Sayers won the senior 1 middleweight and came in second at the absolute.

At the blue belt, Anthony Pisano was the adult meddium heavy bronze medalist and Edwin Munian won the master middleweight and came second at the absolute.

White belt Marcus Kennedy won the adult heavyweight and white belt Martin Kerr came third at the same category.

Also GMA member Mario Yokoyama, leader of Ryan Gracie Oceania, was the master black belt featherweight champion and bronze medalist at the absolute.

Guto Campos is the absolute champion in Melbourne

The black belt medium-heavyweight Gustavo Campos (Guetho Jiu-Jitsu) was the big name of the Melbourne Open, held this Saturday in Australia.

Guto has undergone two giants in the boomerang land, and was delighted with another absolute gold, as he was European champion in 2010. “If in the weight category I had no fights, in the absolute I was the champion. There were two fights and two submissions. The opponents were a bit heavier than me, the first was 100kg and the second 120!,” Guto commented, before he thanked the support of Thiago Braga and his students who were there. “Atos and Guetho forever!”, celebrated. Guto beat Michael Wilson (Peter de Been) in the absolute finals.

Last day for No-Gi Worlds sign-ups, Melbourne Open discount

Today, October 29, marks the sign-up deadline for the biggest late-season IBJJF tournament and the last day for a discount for a major championship in the Land Down Under, so anyone who’ll be in California on November 5 or in Australia from November 18 to 20 and wishes to compete had better hurry.
