Com duelos com e sem kimono, o torneio reuniu centenas de atletas em busca do ouro internacional, e vários faixas-pretas conhecidos estavam na disputa.

No faixa-preta de kimono, Marcos Tinoco e Matheus Diniz fecharam o absoluto para a equipe Alliance. Tinoco e Diniz, campeões no peso meio-pesado e pesado, respectivamente, venceram Paulo Miyao e Felipinho Cesar na semi-finais para garantirem juntos a final do aberto. No absoluto feminino, melhor para Aarae Alexander (Lloyd Irvin), que venceu Samantha Faulhaber (Gracie Humaitá) e mordeu o título.

Outros destaques na disputa de kimono foram a dobradinha de Paulo e João Miyao com o título nas divisões pluma e pena, e para a atuação de Kurt Pellegrino, ex-atleta do UFC e faixa-preta de Marcelinho Garcia, que faturou o título peso pesado no Master 2.

Na disputa sem kimono, Matheus Diniz voltou a brilhar. Ele encarou Murilo Santana na final do absoluto, e conseguiu impor o seu jogo para sair com a vitória. Confira no vídeo abaixo.

Honorable Mention – João Miyao vs. Samir Chantre

Ok, they didn’t make the top 5, but it was a thrilling match indeed. First of all, it is amazing how both Samir and João Miyao were born with rubber ankles and feet. That’s the only explanation for not even bothering with repeat attacks to their extremities. In the end, Samir needed two points to win and got a takedown, but the referees reviewed the call and decided to give only an advantage. It meant the thrills didn’t end with the final struck of the clock.

5 – Tammi Musumeci vs. Mackenzie Dern: Featherweight final

TAMMI VS. MACKENZIE

Tammi vs. Mackenzie is a rivalry like few others. The two always mean business when they meet. It’s one submission attempt after another. In the featherweight final this Sunday. Mackenzie started attacking her favorite toe hold, but Tammi defended well. Then, it was time for Tammi to go for it and she worked a killer kimura from the closed guard that earned both a sweep and a mount, scoring six points. Mackenzie fought through the attack on her right shoulder (which required some icing later) and was able to escape the mount and sweep back, scoring her two points. When the clock ran out, Musumeci had earned her second gold medal at the Worlds No-Gi as a black belt and the crowd gave a standing ovation to the two athletes.

4 – Mahamed Aly vs. Jackson Sousa – Open class quarterfinal

Two powerful opponents met at the quarterfinals of the black belt open class. It was expected to be a powerful encounter, and that’s exactly what happened. There was a lot of fighting for the best position while standing for a good wrestling takedown. Sousa managed to go ahead on the scoreboard with a takedown, but Aly wouldn’t give up and a hail Mary sweep meant the tie on points for the win in advantages and a spot in the semifinal.

3 – Felipe Pena vs. Matheus Diniz – Open class final

Felipe Pena was on fire during the weekend. He finished 7 out 8 opponents, in a near-perfect double gold campaign. The only match that did not end with the opponent tapping was the open class final. Matheus Diniz fought his heart out, but could not stop the champion and avoid the 10-2 final score.

2 – Matheus Diniz vs. Mahamed Aly – Open class semifinal

Never give up! If the open class semifinal between Matheus Diniz and Mahamed Aly had a motto, that would be it. After being taken to the ground by Aly and being behind 2-0 on the scoreboard through the entire match, Diniz finally was able to get Aly’s back and finish the opponent with only 8 seconds to go on the clock. Thrilling!

1 –  Felipe Pena vs. Jackson Sousa – Heavyweight final

What could top the feeling of winning a world championship gold medal with a submission on the very last second of the match? Right? That’s what Felipe Pena felt at the end of the heavyweight final. After 10 minutes of a grueling war against Jackson Sousa, Pena went after the foot  and cranked it with a toe hold to get the tap as the clock struck one second to go. It was so close that GRACIEMAG first reported the match as a 2-0 win for Pena, but them corrected to a submission win, his seventh during the weekend.

Foi essa invejável seleção de lutadores de Jiu-Jitsu que o Mundial Sem Kimono de 2015 consagrou no masculino, nesse domingo 8 de novembro, na Pirâmide em Long Beach na Califórnia.

No feminino, a constelação de estrelas tampouco deixou de brilhar. O absoluto, decidido entre Mackenzie Dern (Gracie Humaitá) e Andresa Correa (Alliance), mostrou que no Jiu-Jitsu o peso não faz tanta diferença, e a peso-pena Mackenzie apertou o pescoço da campeã da Alliance com uma guilhotina fatal. Andresa no entanto não voltou para casa com as mãos vazias: foi a vencedora no peso meio-pesado, ao finalizar Leanna Dittrich com seu afiado leglock.

No absoluto masculino, Felipe Preguiça (GB BH) venceu Matheus Diniz por 10 a 2, após raspar e pegar as costas do faixa-preta da Alliance. Felipe venceu ainda o peso pesado, ao finalizar Jackson Sousa no pé.

O Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu Sem Kimono da IBJJF tem uma alta rotatividade de campeões absolutos, e a tradição se manteve em 2015. Neste domingo, um novo rei absoluto será coroado, e uma nova rainha também.

No masculino, os técnicos e perigosos Felipe “Preguiça” Pena e Matheus Diniz vão disputar o ouro, enquanto no absoluto feminino Mackenzie Dern, atual campeã até 60kg do ADCC, tenta comprovar a forma soberba contra Andresa Correa.

Preguiça fez cinco lutas nesse sábado, e não deu brechas: o atleta da Gracie Barra BH finalizou as cinco, quatro pelo absoluto e uma no peso pesado, quando capturou o joelho de Roberto Torralbas.

No aberto, ele finalizou Wilson Reis na guilhotina na estreia, e depois esticou o braço do novato Patrick Gaudio. Nas quartas, despachou Arnaldo Maidana com uma chave de pé, e na semifinal pegou as costas e arrochou o mata-leão em DJ Jackson, que havia eliminado o valente galinho Caio Terra por 1 vantagem.

Do outro lado da chave, o jovem Matheus Diniz (Alliance) mostrou coração para chegar à final. Ele finalizou Nicholas Liaskos pelas costas, eliminou Garry Tonon nos pontos e finalizou Steven Patterson no mata-leão. Na semifinal, enfrentou o recém-graduado Mahamed Aly, que eliminara Jackson Sousa com uma raspagem nos últimos segundos. Mas Matheus deu o troco: Aly vencia por 2 a 0 de uma queda quando Matheus pegou as costas e finalizou no mata-leão a oito segundos do fim do combate.

Absoluto feminino

Mackenzie Dern fez duas lutas no absoluto, quando despachou Josephine Masiello na chave de braço, e deu uma chave de pé fulminante em Emile Maxine.

Companheira de treinos da atual campeã absoluta Gabi Garcia, que estava na plateia, a fera Andresa Correa fez bonito no outro lado da chave: eliminou primeiro Amanda Loewen e a seguir finalizou a perigosa Tammi Musumeci com um leglock.

The tradition will be kept and once again the 2015 Worlds No-Gi will crown two first-time adult black belt open class champions this Sunday.

Felipe Pena and Matheus Diniz will fight for the gold medal in the male division while Mackenzie Dern and Andresa Correa will battle for the top of the podium in the female bracket.

All four finalists more than deserved to get the shot at the ultimate glory.

Male Open Class

Felipe Pena fought 5 times this Saturday and finished all his opponents, four in the open class and one in the heavyweight division.

In the absolute, he first caught Wilson Reis with a guillotine, then he stretched the arm of Patrick Gaudi.

The opponent on the quarterfinals was Arnaldo Maidana, beat with a foot lock.

The semifinal put Felipe face to face with DJ Jackson, who had beat Eliot Kelly, Guybson Sá and Caio Terra on his way to the match that was worth a spot in the final.

Pena didn’t waste too much time playing DJ’s favorite stand up style, and soon pulled guard.

After some scramble, Pena was able to catch DJ’s back and finish with a rear naked choke.

On the other side of the bracket, Matheus Diniz was also brilliant from beginning to end.

First he choked Nicholas Liaskos from the back, then he beat the always dangerous Garry Tonon by points.

The quarterfinal match was against Steven Patterson, also caught win a RNC.

Mahamed Aly would be Diniz’ opponent in the semifinal.

The newest black belt on Team Lloyd Irvin was also brilliant in his open class campaign, having defeated Gabriel Kitober with a kimura lock, Charles Negromonte with a leg lock and finally Jackson Sousa by referee decision after a hail Mary sweep that tied the match.

Unfortunately for Mahamed, he would taste his own poison against Diniz.

Ahead 2-0 in the scoreboard after a takedown, Aly allowed Diniz to hold him from behind an ended on the ground, where Matheus quickly took his back and got the choke in place to get the tap with 8s to go on the clock.

It was the most thrilling moment of the day.

Female Open Class

Mackenzie Dern keeps her impressive record this year.

In two matches in the open class division, she caught Josephine Masiello’s arm and then twisted Emile Maxine’s foot to reach the final.

With last year’s absolute champion Gabi Garcia on the stands, Alliance’s Andresa XCorrea also fought twice to be in the final.

First she beat Amanda Loewen and then caught Tammi Musumeci with a leg lock.

O Pan de Jiu-Jitsu Sem Kimono 2015 ocorreu neste sábado, 3 de outubro, no City College na cidade de Nova York.

O faixa-preta Matheus Diniz, pupilo de Marcelinho Garcia, foi o grande destaque, após finalizar Garry Tonon, o campeão peso leve, na final do absoluto e ficar com o ouro.

No meio-pesado, Matheus fechou com o parceiro de time Marcos Tinoco.

No feminino, Alison Tremblay venceu Megan Nevill para ficar com o ouro absoluto.

The 2015 Pan No-Gi takes place this Saturday, Oct. 3, at the City College, in New York.

Featuring big names like Paulo and João Miyao, Gianni Grippo, Garry Tonon, John Satava, Otavio Sousa, Mansher Khera, Matheus Diniz, Dillon Danis and many others, the event should be thrilling from beginning to end.

Matheus Diniz had an impressive performance this past weekend at the NY Summer Open.

The Marcelo Garcia black belt won four gold medals both at gi and no-gi divisions.

The highest point of the campaign was the final match of the no-gi open class division.

Diniz outscored the 2013 World no-gi champion Gilbert “Durinho” Burns 7-2.

“It was a very tough match, as I imagine it would be against a world champion,” said Diniz after the match.
