Aconteceu nesta sexta-feira, na tradicional Saitama Super Arena, no Japão, a edição de fim de ano do Dream, o Dynamite!! 2010.

Pelo título de penas da organização, o faixa-preta Bibiano Fernandes foi derrotado por Hiroyuki Takaya em decisão unânime dos juízes laterais.

Em outra disputa de título, o de meio-médios, Marius Zaromskis bateu o ídolo local Kazushi Sakuraba. O nocaute técnico foi no primeiro assalto. Já pelo título interino de pesados, o também campeão do Strikeforce Alistair Overeem segue incólume. Contra o ex-UFC Todd Duffee, o nocaute veio em apenas  19s de luta.

Surpreendente foi a derrota de Shinya Aoki para Yuichiro Nagashima, um nocaute na segunda parcial. Já Gegard Mousasi venceu Kyotaro Fujimoto por decisão unânime nas regras do K-1. Quem também saiu derrotado no ano-novo japonês foi o astro Caol Uno, em decisão unânime a favor de Kazuyuki Miyata.

This Friday the end-of-the-year installment of Dream, dubbed Dynamite!! 2010, took place at the Saitama Super Arena.

Defending his featherweight belt, black belt Bibiano Fernandes lost a unanimous decision to Hiroyuki Takaya.

In another title fight, for the welterweight belt Marius Zaromskis beat local hero Kazushi Sakurabi via first-round technical knockout. For the interim heavyweight title, Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem remains rampant, beating former UFC fighter Todd Duffee by knockout after just nineteen seconds of fighting.

The surprise of the night was Shinya Aoki’s loss to Yuishiro Nagashima, a knockout in the second round. Now Gegard Mousasi took a unanimous decision over Kyotaro Fujimoto under K-1 rules. Another big star to lose was Caol Uno, dripping a unanimous decision to Kazuyuki Miyata.

Evangelista Cyborg managed his second win in a row this Wednesday evening in Los Angeles, his first in Strikeforce. The fighter’s performance against Marius Zaromskis was reminiscent of those of his wife, female Strikeforce champion Cris Cyborg, with relentless attack. Throwing punches and kicks, it took just 2:38 min to bring the bout to an end.

The evening’s main event saw Renato Babalu have his work cut out for him in facing a game Robbie Lawler, but won the unanimous decision. In the first round the black belt looked to clinch and managed to take the fight to the ground on two occasions, while Lawler connected with solid strikes on standing. The second stanza was all Babalu’s, who found his mark mainly with kicks while dominating the standup action. Lawler put his opponent in danger in the third with strikes. When all was said and done, Babalu’s face looked to haven taken the greater punishment, but his victory was well deserved.

The Cyborg family representative to put on a show this time was Evangelista, who came up with a spectacular knockout on Marius Zaromskis. Cyborg controlled the center of the cage and landed the better shots in the standup exchanges. The beginning of the end came with a kick flush to his opponent’s face. Evangelista recognized Marius was stunned and went for the kill with a barrage of strikes, prompting the referee to step in and save the downed Lithuanian from further damage.

Nor did the bout between Tim Kennedy and Trevor Prangley last very long. Kennedy ended the encounter in the first with a rear-naked choke at the 3:35 min mark. Now KJ Noons had his hands full, but overcame Conor Heun via split decision.

Na principal luta da noite, Renato Babalu teve trabalho duro contra Robbie Lawler, apesar de a vitória ter sido por decisão unânime. No primeiro round, o faixa-preta buscou o clinch e conseguiu quedar em duas oportunidades, enquanto Lawler conectou bons socos na trocação. A segunda parcial foi de Babalu, com domínio na luta em pé, principalmente através dos chutes. Lawler levou perigo na terceira parcial, aplicou bons socos. Ao final, o rosto de Babalu era o mais castigado, mas foi merecida a vitória.

O representante da família Cyborg que fez bonito dessa vez foi Evangelista, que aplicou um excelente nocaute em Marius Zaromskis. Cyborg dominou o centro do cage e conectou os melhores golpes na trocação. O triunfo teve início com um chute certeiro no rosto do oponente. Evangelista percebeu que Marius sentiu e partiu para cima. A interrupção veio depois de alguns socos, com o lituano já caído ao chão.

A luta entre Tim Kennedy e Trevor Prangley também não durou muito tempo. Kennedy finalizou ainda na primeira parcial, com um mata-leão aos 3min35s. Já K.J. Noons teve trabalho, mas venceu Conor Heun por decisão dividida.

O que achou da luta?

Sabia que ele viria para cima de mim, então estava preparado e deixei vir. Depois, comecei a soltar mais os golpes. Demorou um pouco para achar a distância e foi então que meu treinador começou a falar comigo e consegui me encontrar na luta. Tomei cuidado com a distância. Escutei o corner dele gritando para ele aceitar os chutes, me senti mal por ele, porque nem sempre escutar o corner é a melhor opção. Vi numa entrevista ele dizendo que faz tudo o que os técnicos mandam. Sem querer desmerecer ninguém, ele é um bom lutador e deveria confiar mais nele mesmo. Ele não deveria ter tentado os chutes e as joelhadas sem antes achar a distância certa. Talvez esse seja o motivo dos meus golpes terem entrado e dele ter tomado tantos socos na cara.

Como foi a preparação?

Treinei pesado. Meu irmão (Nate Diaz) me ajudou. O Jake Shields e o Gilbert Melandez também me ajudaram bastante nos treinos. Meu técnico Cesar Gracie, como sempre, arrumou sparrings e bons lutadores de Jiu-Jitsu para participar dos treinos. Também o Ralph Gracie. Eu sou família Gracie, é bom sempre lembrar de onde você veio e como tudo começou.

Acha que chegou a passar por algum momento difícil?

Não fiquei em situação difícil em nenhum momento da luta.

Quem será seu próximo oponente? Falam no Jay Hieron…

Quero lutar e com o Georges St Pierre, só quero lutar com os melhores, com quem está na mídia, porque parece que ninguém me nota, ninguém coloca eu e o meu irmão nas revistas. Jay Hieron? Quem é esse cara?

Acha que agora deverá estar entre cinco melhores da categoria no mundo?

Por que não? Na minha opinião, ganhei praticamente todas as lutas da minha carreira, apesar de haver um no contest que não concordo. Perdi para o Jeremy Jackson, mas depois tive a revanche e ganhei dele duas vezes. Contra o Diego Sanchez eu perdi porque tinha uma péssima estratégia para aquela luta e estava com muita raiva, mas a verdade é que a cara dele ficou mal depois, não a minha. Diego Sanchez é mais babaca do que os outros lutadores que eu enfrentei, mas não vou ser injusto e dizer que ganhei essa luta.  

O que tem a dizer para finalizar?

Só tenho a agradecer aos meus fãs, amigos, companheiros de treino, meu técnico de boxe e ao Cesar Gracie pela força!

What did you think of the fight?

I knew he’d come after me, so I was prepared and let him come. Then I started to throw more blows. It took a while to find my range and that was when my coach started talking to me and managed to get me back into the fight. I was careful with the range. I heard his corner yelling for him to accept the kicks; I felt bad for him because not always is listening to your corner the best option. I saw an interview saying he does everything his coaches tell him to do. Without wishing to belittle anyone, he’s a good fighter and should have more confidence in himself. He shouldn’t have attempted the kicks and knees without finding his range first. Perhaps that’s why my hits entered and it he took so many punches to the face. 

How did preparations for the fight go?

I trained hard. My brother (Nate Diaz) helped me. Jake Shields and Gilbert Melandez also helped me a lot in training. My coach Cesar Gracie, as always, came up with good sparring partners and Jiu-Jitsu fighters to participate in training. Also Ralph Gracie. I’m from the Gracie family; it’s always good to remember where you come from and how it all began.

I was never in any trouble in the fight.

Who will your next opponent be? There’s talk of Jay Hieron …

I want to fight Georges St-Pierre; I just want to fight the best, whoever is in the media, because no one seems to notice me, no one puts me and my brother in the magazines. Jay Hieron? Who is that guy?

Do you think you should now be among the top five in your division in the world?

Why not? In my opinion, I’ve won practically every fight of my career, despite a no contest I don’t agree with. I lost to Jeremy Jackson, but then had a rematch and beat him twice. Against Diego Sanchez I lost because I had a bad strategy for that fight and was really angry, but the truth is that his face was the one all messed up afterwards, not mine. Diego Sanchez is the biggest idiot of the fighters I’ve faced, but I’m  not going to be unfair and say that I won that fight.   

What would you like to say in closing?

I just have to thank my fans, friends, teammates, my boxing coach and Cesar Gracie for the support!

Apesar de treinar Jiu-Jitsu com Cesar Gracie, a vitória de Diaz foi por nocaute técnico, antes do fim do round inicial. Cyborg teve um pouco mais de trabalho. O triunfo, que foi o nono seguido, veio com um nocaute técnico na terceira parcial. 

Em outra luta muito aguardada, Robbie Lawler surpreendeu e venceu rapidamente Melvin Manhoef. Conhecido pelos nocautes, tendo vencido assim em 23 dos 24 triunfos, dessa vez Manhoef provou do próprio remédio. Foi nocauteado no primeiro assalto.

Two belts are at stake this Saturday in Miami, when the latest installment of Strikeforce takes place. Defending champion Cris Cyborg faces Marloes Coenen, while Nick Diaz and Marius Zaromskis face off for the organization’s vacant welterweight title.

The rest of the card also features some heavily-anticipated matchups, with knockout artist Melvin Manhoef taking on Robbie Lawler and undefeated Carlson Gracie black belt Marcos “Parrumpinha” da Matta making his debut in the event against Pablo Alfonso.
